“The Ultimate Fighter 7″ Episode 9 Recap
Two quarterfinal bouts are on tap this week as four of Team Forrest’s six remaining fighters go head-to-head for their spot in the semis. Jesse Taylor faces Dante Rivera and close friends Amir Sadollah and Matt Brown go toe-to-toe this week on “The Ultimate Fighter 7″.
The first order of business is determining which two of Forrest Griffin’s fighters will be cornered by opposing coach Quinton Jackson. Griffin refuses to make a decision so Dana White flips a coin and Griffin will corner Taylor and Sadollah while Rivera and Brown temporarily head to Team Rampage.
After a bit of weight cutting antics from Taylor, who ate junk food leading up to the bout then cut weight by playing ping pong in a plastic suit, the first bout commences and its Taylor versus Rivera.
Taylor takes Rivera down from the outset of the bout and doesn’t let him up for nearly the entire duration, ground and pounding his way to a unanimous decision victory and a spot in the semifinals.
We quickly switch gears to the second bout as friends Amir Sadollah and Matt Brown square off in the octagon. Brown fires fast and furious from the onset but Sadollah’s chin is superb and he weathers the onslaught before returning with an offensive assault of his own. The furious pace continues for the remainder of the opening round but quickly resumes in the second. After some more standup offense by both fighters Sadollah is able to take his opponent to the ground and transitions to the mount position. Sadollah is able to ground and pound briefly from the dominant position but Brown escapes. In the scramble Sadollah secures a fight-ending triangle choke that forces the more experienced Brown to tap. An impressive offensive showing by Sadollah and Brown but it’s Sadollah moving on to the semis.
Next week it’s Dan Cramer versus Tim Credeur and Cale Yarbrough versus CB Dollaway in the final quarterfinal bouts.

1st fight was boring…I changed the channel during the fight….they did NOTHING…neither will be a fighter in the UFC…especially Dante.. but Jesse Taylor has 2 wins, and I havent been wow’d by either…I think the finals will be CB and…sadly…Amir…I just wish Harris would have won that fight…he would have been more entertaining to watch…but if I had to bet, I would put money on the fact that Harris will fight Matt Brown in the finale…that will be a great fight!
I really hate saying this…but this show is just losing its effect…its appeal….I used to look fwd to thursdays…wednesays…mondays…whatever day it would be on….and not miss a second… now I find myself changing the channel during the show bc the fights are horrible….and boring.. I dont know if its because we were spoiled from that 1st season or what…but something needs to be changed…
Amir did great. I was rooting for him to win, i love the underdog. WAR AMIR!!!!!
Amir is my luke cummo of this season hes the weird dude that noones gonna pay attention to til the finale but eva since episode 1 i knew this guy was on the ball i mean the guy has 0 pro fights yet dana white saw something special in him to let him on the show wit 0 pro mma fights(like he did wit cory hill) thats gotta count for something the guys knees r deadly just ask harris or matt browns ribs and hes lanky so they come from weird angles the finale will b cb vs amir and cb will b a lil overconfident(as he apparently always is) which will give amir the openin to win wit a tko in the 2nd round
I like Amir. He has heart, but I would rank him #4 out of the semi-finalists no matter who gets there. Jesse will be able to talk Amir down and ground and pound him. Remember Gerald was destroying Amir with take downs and ground and pound. Tim will submit him round 1. Dan Cramer would be a good fight, but Cramer is one bad dude and I believe would KO Amir. C.B. would also out wrestle him and show ground and pound skills and some jitsu. My pick for the finals is going to be the obvious pick of C.B. vs. Tim.
Jason N, I agree the show is losing it’s appeal. I have to constantly remind myself, these fighters are lacking skills and training, or supposed to at least, and the fights are going to be boring or really sporadic. Amir did win,but he was really trying almost too hard, his flying knees all the time, showed he was trying for a show boat finish. His submissions were really sloppy and when I seen the triangle coming, I was doubtful he was gonna sink it, thank god for a corner hey….
I think the corner men make all the difference. I think thats why Jackson’s team doesnt win. I dont think either corner is very good, but Jackson’s corner is pretty lousy.
I know everyone hates Matt Serra, but he is a good corner man (as are his corner men) and with his loud obnoxious voice, his fighters listen to him. Randy is another good corner. I think it shows in the way they fight also. They both fight their opponent rather than just trying to fight their fight. It has lead to victory as an underdog for them both. Ill throw BJ in there also since he does the same thing.
c.b v amir in final. amir is underated on here i think. no one else think this has been a poor series and TUF is getting old???
You would rather have no TUF than what you have so far? I think last year sucked also but I wont trade it for another rerun of CSI or something.
the season as a whole has been a dissapointment. amir, with his limited time in the sport, has done well. mostly heart i think? it would be entertaining to see him surprise c.b.!
On the next season of TUF, Dana opens a new league…UFC 10 and under!
Watch as 9 year old Jason “Big Wheels” McGee battles Donnie “Ninito” Hernandez. Jason’s ground and pound is to be feared but Donnie’s near mastery of the kimora might give him an edge…turn in and find out…
You would watch though…
A lot of the raw tallent is already signed somewhere. I think TUF will continue to go downhill if it stays with the current plan but I dont see Dana letting that happen. He isnt married to the show format and will change it to make it the best he cane come up with. If you think it blows that bad, go watch “Men In Trees” on ABC or something.
As long as there are Boobs being flashed or Fist being thrown I’ll watch it! It’s def. better than anything else on besides the WEC or UFC fight nights and such!
