UFC 87: Gamburyan, Emerson, and Parisyan Added To Fight Card

Posted by Kris Karkoski on May 27, 2008 at 11:48 am ET15 Comments

Manny GamburyanManny Gamburyan, the Ultimate Fighter 5 runner-up, will face fellow cast member Rob Emerson at UFC 87 on August 9th in Minnesota. Gamburyan’s cousin, Karo Parisyan, will also be fighting at the August event against an opponent to-be-determined.

MMAFrenzy.com confirmed the additions to the fight card earlier today.

Gamburyan (8-2) won his way into “The Ultimate Fighter 5″ finals with victories over Noah Thomas, Matt Wiman, and Joe Lauzon. At The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale in June 2007, Gamburyan faced Nate Diaz and won the opening round before being forced to submit in round two after dislocating his shoulder on a takedown attempt. After rehabbing the shoulder injury, Gamburyan has posted back-to-back UFC wins over Nate Mohr and Jeff Cox.

Emerson (7-6) started his professional career with loses in six of his fiirs eight bouts but win four straight to earn a spot in The Ultimate Fighter house. He suffered two losses on “The Ultimate Fighter 5″, losing to eventual show winner Nate Diaz and, after returning to the tournament after Gabe Ruediger failed to make weight, Corey Hill. At the Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale, Emerson submitted due to a slam by opponent Gray Naynard but Maynard was knocked unconscious by the attempt and the bout was ruled a no contest. Emerson defeated Keita Nakamura via split decision at UFC 81 in February.

Prior to his UFC Fight Night 13 bout against Thiago Alves, Pariyan (18-5) had won seven of his past eight UFC fights, his lone loss coming against Diego Sanchez, and was believed to be next in line for a welterweight title shot. In the April bout, however, Alves upset Parisyan, knocking him out early in round two. He holds notable wins over Matt Serra, Nick Diaz, Drew Fickett, and Nick Thompson.

The fight card for UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” has grown quickly in recent days. Here’s the latest rumored lineup for the August 9th event:

  • jpm says:

When I read this and then consider what i’m going to see in London next saturday it makes me cry

  • Dirty says:

Great card but just curious, maybe Kris, you’ll know the answer …..why haven’t the UFC posted any news or updated anything based on Lesnar vs Herring yet ?

Is it not 100% official ?

  • Kris says:

Odds are it isn’t completely finalized or they may simply be holding off on an announcement for some reason. Not 100% sure but I’ll pass along official confirmation whenever they do announce it, hopefully this week.

  • seemore says:

keep in mind, these are still in the ‘rumours’ column…but quite the card i must say.

  • Phovos says:

I hope Guida destroys Danzig. I hate that guy with a passion!

  • Kris says:

Right seemore, most of the bouts are “rumored” still in the strictest sense as they haven’t officially been confirmed but they’ve all been confirmed through some source.

  • JOHNBOY says:

i agree phovos danzig is a pr*ck would love to see him get smashed, manny will destroy rob, i think manny needs top 5 guys, he would of beat diaz hands down. looking forward to see fitch get his shot he deserves it shame its against gsp in his prime tho but…i think it could be an upset if john can get past the first 2 rounds with out getting to badley hurt i could see him knocking gsp out in the 3/4 round.

  • YZFOXRACING says:

I HOPE MANNY AND KARO BOTH GET KNOCKED OUT I CAN’T STAND THE GUYS… I SO HOPE GUIDA WINS. MAC IS AN ASSHOLE AND THINKS HES GODS GIFT…

  • KOuch says:

    JPM,
Yes it’s true this card beats the **** out of the London card. However, people have trashed that fight card beyond fairness. I would love to see Matt Hughes again even though I think Thiago will F him up. Personally I am very excited to see the Davis vs Swick fight. Even more I am thrilled about Vera coming back. That’s just me. The majority of people here hate Bisping and I strongly believe he will lose. Anyway, just my opinion. I’d be very excited if I were you. You know the next MMA event I am going to? Me neither because none are in my area any time soon so I have to pratice MMA on my cat. Cheer up and have fun at the event you negative Nancy.

  • zac says:

i just hope mazzagotti isnt reffing guida, karo, or gsp fights…dont want to see another early call.

  • DP says:

i think mazzagotti has learned his lesson because he let silva pound on jardine a couple times just to make sure it was a premature stoppage

  • jpm says:

    Kouch
I know what your saying pal & don’t get me wrong, i’m still hugely excited about going to the event its just that when I compare what I will be seeing with what I thought I would be seeing when first announced its a little disappointing. I went to the Manchester & London events last year & saw big names in big fights. Perhaps I was a little spoilt because besides the BJ fight Newcastles card was poor & this one in my humble opinion has gone the same way. However, I shall take your advice about the negative nancy stuff & I do hope your cat sees the year out at least.

  • Sam says:

jpm, I appreciate what you’re saying. I went to the one in London last year. With that card, it was worth what I paid for. but the one in a week’s time is really not that attractive, for me personally. Ok, Matt Hughes is a big name but is also in my opinion, a big jerk. And so is Bisping. The others are ok but I’d rather sit on my comfortable sofa and watch it, and listen to commentary. But still, I’m sure you’ll have a good time. Nothing beats being in the ‘arena’ atmosphere along with other fans.

  • mma-fan says:

Karo is never boring I still love the guy and he has one of the best resumes and trmendouse expereince.
