Today the UFC announced on their official website that TUF alums ED Herman and Scott Smith will face one another at UFC 72 in Dublin. Herman (1-2 UFC) was the middleweight runner-up after defeating Rory Singer and Danny Abaddi on TUF 3 before losing via unanimous decision to Kendall Grove on the finale. After being awarded a contract despite the lossHerman lost to Jason MacDonald before defeating Chris Price at UFC Fight Night 8.
Smith (1-2 UFC) appeared on TUF 4: The comeback but was quickly eliminated from the competition in the quarterfinals by Travis Lutter. He was invited back, however, to compete on the shows finale where he defeated Pete Sell with an explosive knockout punch. Although he lost his next bout at UFC 67 to Patrick Cote, Smith has apparently been asked to return to the UFC to face Herman in June.
This bout will be on the preliminary portion of the card.
UFCJunkie.com has contacted a sports anchor with KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico about UFC 74 being held in the city. Here is what the reporter said:
“Mark your calendar for August 25th because the UFC will make a stop in [the] Duke City. Yes folks, the [Octagon] is coming. The Pit is a possible venue.”
The Pit, according to its Wikipedia entry, is an 18,018 capacity venue at the University of New Mexico. Also, Diego Sanchez, a native of Albuquerque, is slated for the event against an unknown opponent. The event is rumored for August 25, 2007.
