Brock LesnarThe UFC has officially announced UFC 87: SEEK AND DESTROY featuring a heavyweight main event bout between former professional wrestler turned mixed martial artist Brock Lesnar and UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman. Lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta will also face off in a featured top contender bout at the event.

The pay-per-view event takes place on August 9th at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the first UFC event ever held in the state.

“I am excited to be heading to Minnesota and Target Center with the first ever UFC in the state,” said Dana White, UFC President, in the official announcement. “UFC fans there are going to be blown away by this event – this fight between Brock Lesnar and Mark Coleman is going to be explosive, a battle between the original monster wrestler and the new breed of monster wrestler. Kenny Florian versus Roger Huerta has the potential to be one of the most action packed fights of the year, both have won Fight of the Night awards and they are known for delivering nonstop action. UFC 87 is going to be stacked with incredible matchups and all the fights fans want to see, from the first bout to the last.”

Tickets for the event go on sale Sunday, May 25, at noon CT. Ticket prices are set at $600, $400, $250, $125, $75 and $50. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, at the Target Center’s Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, or by calling 651-0989-5151. UFC Fight Club members can purchase tickets for the event beginning Thursday, May 22, at 10am CT while UFC newsletter subscribers can purchase tickets through a special internet presale beginning Saturday, May 24, at 10am CT.

LESNAR:

“This fight can’t come soon enough; I’m ready to go and I’m excited! I’m still looking to make a name in the UFC and I get a chance to do that in my hometown, which is great for the fans. It’s an honor to get a chance to fight Coleman, he’s a legend and he’s made history fighting all over the world. I know he is going to come into this fight in great condition, looking to re-establish himself as a top contender in the UFC. It’s going to be a challenge, and I’m looking forward to it.”

COLEMAN:

“My goal since I left the UFC was to eventually get back into the cage; I’m much more comfortable in the cage, and when I finally got the offer from Dana it didn’t take any time to give him my answer – especially when he told me who my opponent would be. A lot of people are interested in this matchup, I’ll be up against a bigger, stronger wrestler for the first time, and they know this fight will be extremely intense from the start. But I didn’t take this fight to lose, I expect to win and win by knockout.”

FLORIAN:

“I’m really excited to be fighting Roger Huerta; this is the fight I wanted because he’s the other big lightweight in the UFC, and he is definitely at the top of the division. I’ve never fought a guy in his hometown, so this is going to be different for me, but no matter where we fight it’s going to be a back and forth non-stop war. We are both aggressive and Huerta is always in great shape; he’s one of those guys who just hangs in there, so when you have the chance, you have to finish him, and that’s what I’m gonna do.”

HUERTA:

“This is going to be a really great fight, it will distinguish who will be the number one contender. I’m looking forward to fighting Florian, he is a technical fighter and comes in with a great game plan, but I have a game plan too, so I think this is going to be a chess match, one where we both use all our MMA skills to stay in there. I’m really excited to fight in Minneapolis, the support I get here is amazing, this city has adopted me, this is where I train for all of my fights, and I can’t wait to bring it a win in August.”

The main card of the event will air on pay-per-view beginning at 10pm ET. As always, MMAFrenzy.com will have live coverage of the entire event on August 9th beginning at 7pm ET.

  • Brandon says:

Brock Lesnar has to have THE gayest tattoo in MMA history.

  • Kris says:

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the tat either.

  • crockpot says:

hahah thats ****in funny what a weak tat its suppost to intimidate i guess all it does is humiliate. but this fight is gonna be good between brock and coleman and i pray roger will bury that fag kenny.

  • cc says:

Brock and Coleman a good fight? Lesner proved he has a lot to learn (but has potential) while Coleman is just sad to watch he’s just way way past his prime.

  • Kris says:

For me I kind of like the main event. Like cc said, Lesnar proved he has a lot to learn and a lot of potential while Coleman is a UFC Hall of Famer that will be looking to show he still has what it takes to win. Sure, Coleman is only 3-4 in his last 7 but when you consider his losses were to Fedor, Cro Cop, and Rodrigo Nogueira it’s a lot more respectable.

I think at this point the biggest question mark is that by fight night it will have been almost 2 years since he fought.

It’s not meant to be a top contender bout but is a very solid non-title main event.

  • joel b says:

it is a pretty gay tat but no worries he has the fist to back it up….. but only if his jujitsu was up to par lol. i am sure he has came a long way since that loss. however because mark coleman is actually over the hill… shoot he is over my hill. i believe he is not in the same shape as coulture is. dont count on this fight leaving the first round i am sure the ufc vet will also retire after this bout. but i see big things on the horizon for lesnar. hopefully 2-3 more fights we can see another lesnar vs mir. i was pretty upset about the last one but thats what brings meaning to the name MIXED in mma. real quick how does everyone feel as mir being a coach on tuf 8? i am guessing they will follow the history and mir will get a shot at the interm HW title.

  • KOuch says:

I disagree about the tattoo being gay. I find it more lesbian but that is just my opinion. Bet a few of you have some pretty cool tattoos too. If Coleman wins I think he’ll call out Randy. Coleman said he wanted a fight with Randy not to long ago if I remember correctly. Not that it will ever happen just sayin. Lesnar will turn out just fine with more experience. The world of MMA has many stages and he stepped right into the top to fight a former champ.

  • Brandon says:

Randy wont fight Coleman because Randy wont fight for the UFC ever again. Plus Coleman is washed up at 43 and Randy is still fighting smart and strong at 45. I do think however that guys like Lesnar would destroy Randy, and this is coming from a HUGE Randy Couture fan. I think Lesnar is too strong/young/fast for Randy’s style. Anyhow they will never fight so it’s no worries.

    I have Lesnar TKO R1
    Florian by UD

  • seemore says:

i think the huerta/florian fight will be the one to watch…

  • 2girls1cup says:

lesnar is still a wild card to me, but nonetheless i can’t wait to see him fight again. i thought he did better than my expectation for the last fight and mazagatti ****ed him over on that point deduction. but still, colemans experience is gonna have a big role in this one. i agree that florian/huerta will turn out to be an awesome fight. i’m happy with either guy winning. also, i don’t think this fight will be a #1 contender fight as much as a who gets to lose to BJ Penn fight, cuz i don’t think either one really has the skills to take the belt, not yet anyways.

  • del says:

florian and huerta is a good fight, but coleman and lessnar as a main event is pretty weak, not buying tickets to this one.

  • n says:

Yea the main should be Florian/Huerta, these guys are proven fighters. I disagree with Lessnar being fast. His last fight was way slow, he would have to lose a lot of mass to become faster. He’s been training in MN with the college wrestlers, throwing around 180 pounders lol so well see what he has to bring. Who will get winded quicker that will be the most excieting part of that match.
