Jason Day To Face Bisping at UFC 85

Jason DayThe UFC has announced that Jason Day will replace Chris Leben against Michael Bisping at UFC 85.

From the announcement:

With legal issues preventing middleweight contender Chris Leben from being able to prepare sufficiently for a June 7th bout with Michael Bisping in London, England, Canada’s Jason ‘Dooms’ Day has stepped in to face ‘The Count’ in a featured bout on the UFC 85: Bedlam card at the O2 Arena.

“Obviously I was looking forward to the Leben fight but I guess it wasn’t to be,” said Bisping. “You have to respect Jason Day for stepping in on even shorter notice than myself. I am looking forward to really putting on a great performance in London.”

“I love this fight,” said Day. “Everybody’s been asking me who would I like to fight next, and I said Bisping, but who would have thought it would have come about so quickly. He’s a great fighter, an exciting fighter, tough as nails, and everybody wants that marquee fight where you get the guy that tests you and you slug it out for two or three rounds. I think he’s a pretty good test for me.”

Yesterday, Leben was sentenced to 35 days in jail and would have had less than two weeks to prepare for the main card bout, forcing him to withdraw from the fight.

Day (17-5) made his UFC debut at UFC 83 in April, upsetting Alan Belcher via first round TKO. Bisping (15-1) made his 185-pound debut at the same event, defeating Charles McCarthy via first round TKO.

Personally, I love the matchup. Quarry would have been good too but both Day and Bisping are coming off impressive wins and it should make for a good fight. Day’s a good fighter, he’s just not that well know.

  • buddy says:

this is wicked j-day has been the dog in his last like 4 fights or so and won each time, this guy is a true warrior.

  • Cannot.will.not says:

Seriously this sucks….this has gone from A card to B card to Z

Give us osmethign decent this is crap. I want Bisping Hendo…i hope some other injuries force Dana to step in and earn the money I wasted on tickets.

  • WM says:

Day showed solid stand-up knocking out Belcher and his ju-jitsu could give Bisping fits.

  • 2girls1cup says:

i’ll admit first that i’m not too familliar with Day, so I could be off base in my next statement, but this smells like another stepping stone served up so that bisping will continue to look like a contender. granted, 185 isn’t stacked with competition like other classes, but for a main card you’d think that they’d find someone to fill lebens spot that was a little less suspect in terms of talent. hopefully i’m wrong and this guy smashes bisping.

  • buddy says:

jason dooms day has won 10 of his last 11 fights. wins including david loiseau, jonathon goulet and alam belcher/ his only loss in his last 11 has been to patrick cote. i think jay may prove to be a big problem for bisping.

  • KOuch says:

The average fan sees this as BS and a crappy replacement for Leben for the wrong reasons. Mr. Day is a very good fighter on a roll right now and the only reason people are unhappy with him being Bisping’s opponent, is because he is not popular. Remember, this is not a popularity contest. The guy really is badass and if all works out properly, he will beat Bisping which should help his popularity for those of you who prefer that over talent. Even if he is suppose to be a “stepping stone,” he is one tough mother f-cker. Perhaps just like Bisping he needs to beat some more worthy opponents to please the fans. Problem with that…..popularity contest….apparently.

  • jordan says:

who do u think will win this fight then guys ?

  • Kris says:

I’d give a very slight edge to Bisping to win only because of the experience he has in the UFC and the crowd that will be behind him but if Day comes in on the betting lines as a significant dog I’d definitely put a bet on him in an instant.

It should be a good fight that truly could go either way.

  • buddy says:

I agree with Kris but Im sure Day will be coming in as a huge dog and has a good shot so for sure my money’s on Day.

  • cc says:

I like this fight more than Leben. L is entertaining, but his willingness (eagerness/recklessness) to take shots would have made for a short fight against the count. Day has got the chops and size to battle Bis and I predict an upset: early second round submission.

  • cc says:

Cannot.will.not … this is still a much better card that UFC 86 … which is really lame right now aside from the title bout.

  • crockpot says:

whoever said bisping vs hendo is dumb dan would ****in murder him. i kind of like bisping he seems like an ok guy, and his fights are usually pretty good. but im with yall, if i saw him get destroyed i would laugh, he kind of deserves it after all of this hype. anderson silva vs bisping anyone?

  • Kris says:

“Anderson silva vs. Bisping” – Given the status of the 185-pound division that could be coming sooner rather than later…

  • JOHNBOY says:

damn i was looking forward to leban and the count i`ll admit i dont no much about this day so looks like its back to square 1 for all the bisping haters damned if he wins damned if he dont.
