Saturday brings the return of the UFC on Spike TV, but the relationship is coming to an end with the UFC’s move to Fox, a fact that’s obvious given how little the UFC has advertised the event, which is headlined by welterweights Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger.
The four-fight main card airs on Spike tomorrow at 9pm ET, while the preliminary card will be broadcast on Facebook.
Here are the UFC Fight Night 25 main card predictions from the MMAFrenzy.com staff:
Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger
Analysis from Chris Leslie: Understandable distractions + problems with heavy handed fighters = bad news for Shields. Unless Ellenberger gets sloppy, I expect him to pull out the win here. With the death of father fairly fresh on his mind, Shields may not be at the top of his game mentally. While it has inspired athletes in the past, considering their relationship has had a heavy influence on his career it may simply be too much. Ellenberger is hungry for a title shot and knows he is facing a mentally wounded fighter. While he may be able to empathize with him, do not think for a minute that it will cause the heavy handed former UNO wrestler to take pity on him. Ellenberger.
MMAFrenzy.com predictions: Shields 4, Ellenberger 1
Court McGee vs. Dongi Yang
Analysis from Justin Reiger: I’ve never been ‘sold’ on McGee (great “story”…average fighter) and Yang hasn’t really beaten anyone of ‘value,’ but I believe he will win via second-round TKO.
MMAFrenzy.com predictions: McGee 3, Yang 2
Erik Koch vs. Jonathan Brookins
Analysis from Bryan Robison: A featherweight battle that will compete with Belcher/MacDonald for most exciting match of the night. Koch has been on a tear since losing to Chad Mendes last year in the WEC. He has two consecutive knockout of the night awards to his name, and three straight 1st round knockouts overall. Brookins wants to get this to the ground, knowing full well he won’t survive standing in front of Koch. This will be Brookins’ first fight since winning The Ultimate Fighter season 12 finale last December, and his first fight since dropping down to featherweight.
Look for Koch to take advantage of Brookins’ lack of true striking, and defeat the timid Brookins.
MMAFrenzy.com predictions: Koch 5, Brookins 0
Alan Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald
Analysis from Chris Leslie: I am going to sit back, relax, and just enjoy the fireworks here. Belcher is better on his feet and MacDonald is a wizard on the ground but isn’t afraid to stand and trade. This is a possible FOTN candidate to start the night if Belcher isn’t too rusty. MacDonald via coin flip.
MMAFrenzy.com predictions: Belcher 4, MacDonald 1
