The arena will hold up to 20,000 fans with the fights scheduled to begin at 10am local time to allow for a live broadcast in North America. The UFC visited Japan four times between 1997 and 2000, but the event marks Zuffa’s first event in Asia.
The UFC has not yet decided whether it will be a numbered event that would typically air on pay-per-view or a Fight Night event that could air on FX, but vowed to deliver a “major” event.
Possible fighters for the event include Japan’s Yushin Okami, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Takanori Gomi, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, Hatsu Hioki, Riki Fukuda, Michihiro Omigawa, and Takeya Mizugaki, while former PRIDE champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira also hopes to fight on the card.
