Dana White: Brock Lesnar Retirement Rumors are “Ridiculous”

Posted by on Sep 2, 2011 at 3:28 pm ET9 Comments

Brock LesnarUFC President Dana White said rumors that Brock Lesnar could soon retire were “ridiculous” and that the former UFC heavyweight champion is “100 percent” and still on track to return early next year during Friday’s UFC on Fox conference call.

“That’s ridiculous. That’s so far from the truth, it’s not even funny,” White said. “He’s been working on a farm in Canada all summer. He’s back to 100 percent and he’s getting back to training in the next couple of weeks.”

Lesnar is recovering from surgery that saw 12 inches of his colon removed to relieve symptoms from a digestive disorder that has affected him since 2009.

Lesnar (5-2) hasn’t fought since losing the title to Cain Velasquez last October after the symptoms forced him out of a June fight with fellow Ultimate Fighter 13 coach Junior dos Santos.

    Wait.
    Working in Canada?
I’ve read comments that Brockenstein wasn’t exactly fond of his stay in the Dominion.
Already this sounds like bullsh!t to me.
    ;-)

All goofs aside, I hope Dana White is shooting straight here.
There is a lot of chatter out there right now about how BL is done in MMA, but lets hope for the best and prepare for the worst…

What are you talking about? Brock never said he hated Canada. He said he wasn’t to fond of the level of care he received while in a Canadian hospital. Brock has always been a huge fan of the landscape here in Canada and has always come here to hunt and just chill. He owns property here too.

I can tell you 100% for certain that Brock Lesnar is living in Canada. I live in Manitoba and he is living somewhere near Brandon, Manitoba. He has been seen around Brandon this summer, but no one dares follow him to his seclusion for fear of being manbearpigged into oblivion upon arrival.

He won’t know if he needs to retire until he goes through a full camp and fights once though. If he can’t handle it, that physical test will determine that and then we can address the retirement.

      LOL.
Unclinch Canadians, it was just a goof.
I’m sure Brock Lesnar loves the Dominion as much as/if not more than I do, which is why I nearly married one of your fine-a$$ women back in the day…

I hope Lesnar is back in time for one of the first year FOX events. Perhaps vs the loser of JDS/ Cain or Overeem… Brock on FOX is a real power move for Dana. Say what you will about him but the man is making all the right moves.

Regardless, we know his time in MMA is fairly limited. He has already said he doesn’t like getting hit in the face, and its pretty obvious he does not have the heart of a fighter. Why should he? He is financially set for life, prefers a life outside of the spotlight, and has had to battle health issues beyond the normal wear and tear of MMA. We should all just enjoy the limited opportunities we have left to see this freak of nature in action, before he calls it quits. My guess is that he will fight until the next time he loses. If Mir or Overeem has him next and beats him, I think that will be the last we see of him in the cage. If he were to win, he will likely get a title shot, and he will continue until he loses (be it, in that title fight or a defense of the title).

  • DannyBoy4455 says:

Now lets be fair man, to say that Brocks skills are limited is hate mongering. I am not suggesting in any way that Brock is the best heavyweight, but lets be honest. He is at least a pretty good top ten heavyweight. To be top ten in the world in any weight class is an accomplishment in itself. He is undoubtably one of the best wrestlers in the HW division. Wrestling is an important MMA skill, you must agree (GSP, Randy Couture, Rashad Evans, Frankie Edgar, etc. etc. etc.) He does have a tendancy to avoid stand up strikes, but I know someone else who you can say that about that some would agree is pretty good (he happens to be the welterweight champion and the #2 P4P).

We must also consider that Brock had no time to season and simmer. His first four fights EVER included 2 former heavyweight champs! That is an insane fact! He was truly “thrown to the wolves”!!!

Now I agree he isn’t the best, but can you agree he is GOOD at least?

    • KEVSMITT says:

DannyBoy, please don’t misunderstand. I said his time in MMA is limited, not his skills. I was not trying to put Brock’s ability down. That being said, I do think that if he would have had the chance to start training other disciplines earlier, he could have been unstoppable. What he has accomplished in such a short period of time is nothing short of amazing, but at 34 years of age with plenty of reasons not to keep fighting for years, I don’t think he will ever have the chance to realize his full potential.

Oops, I misread. MY Bad!!Even thought I don’t really like Brock I somehow always find myselfdefending him..
