Matt BrownMatt Brown has stepped in to replace an injured Pascal Krauss and will face England’s John Hathaway in a welterweight bout on the UFC 138 fight card on November 5 in Birmingham, England, the UFC announced Wednesday.

The Ultimate Fighter 7 fan-favorite Brown (12-10) snapped a three-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision over John Howard at UFC on Versus 4 in June to keep his UFC career alive. Hathaway (15-1) rebounded from his first career loss to Mike Pyle with a split decision over Kris McCray in March.

UFC 138 airs via tape-delay on Spike TV and his headlined by the first five-round non-title fight between middleweights Chris Leben and Mark Munoz.

Was Brown a fan Favorite? I always though he seem like a D!ck but maybe that was just me.

I also remember people Fearing him in the house. With a record like 12-10 I dont remember what the big fuss was about.

But good for Brown for stepping up.

“Matt Brown by Murder” was coined by Amir Sadollah after Riddle (I think) put lemon juice in Brown’s dip. Everyone knows you don’t F with a redneck’s dip.

I think in the TUF house Brown was one of the bigger fish in a small pond. In the UFC he’s a little fish trying to avoid sharks in the ocean. But I, and many others, dig his style and the fact that he will step in against anyone on short notice. He always fights hard and he doesn’t make excuses when he loses. I do think that gives him a lot of latitude with Dana and the Fertitas.

They certainly like it when guys are willing to step up for a fight they didn’t expect. I like Brown, the guys record may not be that impessive but he always comes to fight.

For those of you wondering how Matt Brown keep his UFC job, the answer can be summed up in two words:
    fightstyle & attitude.
Thats pretty much all that matters for non-contending UFC fighters, and it sure doesn’t hurt if you’re a contender and/or big draw…

Isn’t that three words? Lol, I jest.

Through sheer grit and toughness he has managed to keep his job a bit longer than most one dimensional welterweights outside of Dan Hardy. I do think Brown is a very exciting fighter and fighters like him certainly serve a purpose in the UFC business model.

I really think this is a winable fight for Brown. Athough Hathaway has some slick submissions, his takedowns are a product of that “indomitable” English wrestling base… :)

Matt brown isn’t one dimensional, he’s actually a pretty good grappler to go along with his striking. The hitman (not kampmann :P) should take this one though.

I think Matt Brown should fight Dan Hardy

    • jcohl says:

I get what you’re saying but IMO the best thing for Dan Hardy is to do exactly what he said he would do, which is take time off to work on rounding off his MMA skillset.
The guy’s taken a lot of losses and even his marketability can only help so much.
At some point you have to win fights to be taken seriously in any MMA org, especially the UFC.
Hardy is at the breakpoint career-wise and shouldn’t step back into the cage until he’s dialed-into what North American MMA is really all about…
