Terry MartinTerry Martin (via MySpace.com):

“Ever since a few articles came out that incorrectly reported that I was released by the UFC, I have been asked by many if I am leaving MMA to pursue boxing. I was not released by the UFC. I am doing a few boxing matches as a way to improve myself as a mixed martial arts fighter. I plan on participating in a few non-UFC MMA events before returning to the Octagon. I want to thank all of my fans for their support. See you in the Octagon real soon.”

Martin successfully made his professional boxing debut earlier this month in Chicago, knocking out his opponent, Ricardo Upchurch, in round one. Martin will return to MMA competition on June 14th at Adrenaline MMA’s debut event in Chicago against Daiju Takase.

Hmmmm… He’s still under contract by the UFC, but is going to fight for another organization? Doesn’t sound right…

It’s not common but the UFC does, on occasion, allow their fighters to fight for other promotions. The fights are usually against low risk opponents and if the fighter wins several bouts we’ll see them back in the octagon but if they lose, even losing one fight after several wins, then they’re usually released.

I think they see upside with Martin to let him do this but if he wins a couple fights we should see him back in the UFC.

IF he wins… he is facing the dude who caught anderson in a triangle… i hope he wins and comes back, even though i dont like him, i like scraps he’s been so all the best terry.

I dont think Anderson Silva would like that. He is allowed to fight in pro boxing fights and stay in a contract with the ufc. Why cant Anderson fight roy jones jr and stay in contract with the ufc?
