UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch has finally been cleared to resume training after undergoing shoulder surgery and could face Johny Hendricks in his likely return to the Octagon at UFC 139 on November 19 in San Jose, according to MMAjunkie.
Fitch’s shoulder injury scrapped a rematch with BJ Penn from UFC 132 in July after the pair fought to a draw at UFC 127 in February. Fitch (23-3-1) had previously won five-straight since coming up short against welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre in 2008.
With Penn now scheduled to meet Carlos Condit in the co-main event of UFC 137 in October, Fitch could take on Hendricks (11-1), who rebounded from his first career loss to Rick Story in December with wins over TJ Waldburger and Mike Pierce in 2011.
UFC 139 is headlined by Fitch’s AKA teammate and UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos.
