Chris Lytle ended his UFC career with a third-round submission of Dan Hardy in Sunday’s UFC on Versus 5 main event, but not before the welterweight veteran delivered a final standup battle like those that made him a fan favorite over the years.
Lytle got the better of Hardy as they went toe-to-toe for more than two-and-a-half rounds, then Lytle converted a desperate takedown from Hardy in the final minute into a guillotine choke that forced the Brit to tap before going to sleep.
Lytle ends his career at 31-18-5 overall and 10-10 in the UFC, while Hardy falls to 23-10 and has now lost four-straight.

Round 1 – Lytle opens the bout with several punches to the body, but gets clipped by Hardy in an exchange. Lytle quickly goes back on the attack, while Hardy is picking his openings more carefully. Lytle and Hardy both connect as they go back and forth with powerful combos. Lytle looks to get the better of the exchanges as he clips Hardy in the chin again and again. Both fighters are content to stay on their feet and trade punches until the round ends. MMAFrenzy.com scores the first for Lytle 10-9.
Round 2 – Lytle picks up where he left off and tags Hardy again early in the second. Hardy hurts Lytle with a combo of his own, but gets poked in the eye as Lytle looks to counter. After recovering, Lytle connects to the chin again then it’s Hardy’s turn. Hardy shoots for a takedown, but Lytle sprawls and eyes the guillotine before the return to their feet. Lytle continues to get the better of Hardy in most of the exchanges as several left hooks land right on the chin, including another right before the bell sounds. Round 3 – Lytle pushes forward with more punches to start the final round of his Octagon career. Hardy answers with punches of his own, but gets tagged with more left hooks. Hardy mixes in a leg kick that Lytle answers with more punches and a kick of his own. Hardy struggles to pull the trigger and Lytle finds his chin again and again. Lytle attacks the body, then returns to the head. Lytle lunches with a combo that Hardy evades. Lytle adds another kick then batters the body with more rights. Hardy desperately goes for a takedown and Lytle immediately grabs a guillotine. Hardy holds out as long as he can, but finally taps.
