Matt Hughes From Matt-Hughes.com:

June 7th, in England, I fight Thiago Alves. The fight is confirmed, it will be the main event for the card. Dana just called me with the news. Chuck got hurt and couldn’t fight, so he needed a replacement and called me and I said yes. More news as I get it. No matter what happens in this fight, I’ve got Serra next. -matt

i like this fight but i dont know if it should be the headliner…i think there could have been a better main event.. but it should be a good and exciting fight and i’ll watch the fight anyways cuz the UFC is that ****tttt

  • Dirty says:

    NOT BAD !!!

    I believe it.

  • Kris says:

Might be a co-main event. Just a question mark for now until we get further confirmation but the fight makes sense.

  • mburten says:

This, along with Bisbing vs. Leben, Evans vs. Irvin, and Vera vs. Werdum makes a decent card. I don’t think anyone can complain too much.

  • Big Rapper says:

What fools!!! This card stinks like pooh on your shoe, you sucks. Holla!

  • FixXeR says:

excellent….Always good to see a Matt Hughes fight….I hope he gets back on his feet, Alves is a worthy opponent

  • rutdog says:

I do believe that Alves will take Hughes in this one. After which will set up the Serra-Hughes fight that by the time it happens will be a fight night main event at best. I think GSP will run through Fitch, but Alves might give him some trouble if he’s next in line. All based on him beating Hughes. I like this fight though, not as a main event, but I think it sweetens a pretty weak to decent card.

  • seemore says:

seems like a good card…glad to see hughes stepping up to fight. he really has nothing left to prove, and fighting serra seems like his last hurrah…kudos to him for strengthening the card…should be a good fight…

  • JOHNBOY says:

like him or not matt is a liveing legand in mma and we as fans should be glad were getting to see him fight again, now even tho it might not sound like it im not the biggest fan of hughes but i would pay to watch him fight no question and i also think matt will walk through alves maybe him n fitch could of gone at it that would of been better,
is bisping leban comfirmed is so r ppl guna give the count respect if he beats him or u just guna make more BS up?

  • JAI says:

This is a super dangerous fight for Matt. He could easily loose this fight. He may actually go in as the under dog in the fight. It’s good to know, according to Matt’s statement that even if he does loose this fight, he gets to fight Serra next…..I believe that’s a fight that everyone wants to see!

If Alves wins, he should definitely get a shot at the title, which means the winner of GSP-vs-Fitch.

  • brandon says:

I really don’t see Alves winning this fight at all. Matt Hughes does very well against good strikers with a sub-par ground game and that is exactly Alves. His strikes are fantastic but I think Hughes will have the strength/size and wrestling advantage over Alves. I see this getting finished by a choke of some variety in the third.

  • revjames13 says:

Hughes Alves is pretty intriguing. Karo was able to get Alves down, but then didn’t do much. Hughes has more aggressive take downs and is stronger than Karo, but he is a serious target on his feet, as his stand-up defense is pretty weak. I give Hughes a slight edge and I’ll be rooting for him to show some of his old stuff. Alves is no joke though, and he could KO Hughes into thinking seriously of retirement after Serra. If Hughes can win in dominant fashion, then I would like to see him hang around and fight Karo or Kos after Serra. That way, if BJ Penn moves up in weight and beats GSP, we can see the rubber match (Hughes/Penn 3). It would be cool for Hughes to get one last crack at the title.

  • Brenna Berg says:

I hope Matt loses. He has always been an A$$ and seeing as he is just some Bible thumping, Fanatic, then who cares what happens to him. Maybe his God will beam him into Heaven after his fight!!

  • revjames13 says:

All I care about is the fight. Hughes being a Bible thumper just makes him that kind of character. Whether you can fight or not is pretty much all that counts. I’m interested to see whether he is still a factor or not.

  • kelvin says:

this is a good fight but if alves loses, who’s #1 contender after GSP runs through fitch? maybe marcus davis or diego?
