MMA Chatter: Comments From Diaz, Villasenor, and Shaw
Chris Fries and The JDH of Tagg Radio’s The Lights Out Show were at this past Saturday’s Strikeforce event and got some very eye opening interviews from Joe Villasenor, Gilbert Melendez Jake Shields, Drew Fickett, Cung Le, Nick Diaz and Gary Shaw.
Nick Diaz on being pulled from the Strikeforce/EliteXC card:
“They (Calif. State Athletic Comm.) want to discriminate on me…Somebody else had a medicinal card on the fight card, and they got to fight, but I didn’t get to fight.”
Joey Villasenor on how he dealt with Ryan Jensen agreeing to take the fight, replacing Cyborg Santos:
“At this level, I would never take a fight on a week’s notice…I’m at the top of the food chain and I’m going to make you earn every cent.”
EliteXC President, Gary Shaw, on the UFC no longer being the top fighting organization, on Cung Le being a top 10 fighter, and on the status of the offer to Fedor Emeliananko by EliteXC:
“They (UFC) got a hole in their dyke right now. It’s leaking…No one organization owns the best fighters.”
“(Rankings) are all bull___! He (Cung Le) was a top 10 fighter before he walked in the cage.”
“He (Fedor) wants $2 million per fight. We keep going back and forth, but he has to fight soon. It’s been almost 2 years.”

The UFC has a hole in its dyke!?!?! Are you kidding me? The top talent is primarily in the UFC! Just because a few big names have gotten old with diminishing skills and are on their last fights means nothing. The UFC has continued to produce new prime talent consistantly. What other promotion has done that? I guess Gary Shaw thinks losing Tim Sylvia and Tito Ortiz are massive blows to the UFC. I was unaware Kimbo Slice, Tank Abbott, Ken Shamrock, and Frank Shamrock were such great fighters. I could name more fighters but out of respect I’ll stop there. Even Cung who I’ve met several times and like a lot as a person wouldn’t stand a chance in the UFC middleweight division. When Dana White said, “No one knows the business of mma like I do.” I thought, “You and your damn ego….but you’re probably right.” Gary Shaw just made Dana right with his comments. I feel the regulars on here know/understand more about mma than Gary Shaw. The guy is a douce. Can you guys imagine what Rich Franklin or Anderson Silva vs Cung Le? Give me a break! And I love Cung but c’mon……I also do not understan the the top 10 ranking comment by Shaw regarding Cung. Cung has zero ground game and this is MMA.

Ok where the hell do you get ‘the UFC no longer being the top fighting org.’ SAYS’ WHO? GARY (NEEDS A NEW HAIRDO) SHAW?…GIVE ME A BREAK!
As far as Le goes, one good take down and he’s toast!
