Yamma Pit Fighting Update

yamma-pit-fighting.jpgMuch like tonight’s Strikeforce/EliteXC show, Yamma Pit Fighting’s inaugural event has been going through some serious lineup changes.

Earlier this month UFC veteran Kevin Jordan was named as a replacement for Rex Richards in the eight man heavyweight tournament. After that, Yamma lost some serious clout when Don Frye announced that he would not be participating in the event, where he was originally slated to face Oleg Taktarov in one of the evenings “superfights.” Taktarov will instead face Patrick Smith in place of Don Frye. Patrick Smith is likely best remembered for his competition in the first and second UFC tournaments, where he lost to both Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie respectively.

Yamma also attempted to nab Ricco Rodriguez, Alexey Oleinik and Maurice Smith among others as late recruits for the April 11 show, but hit a snag when yesterday it was reported by Five Ounces of Pain that Maurice Smith would be unable to participate in the event due to illness. Ironically enough, Maurice Smith was picked as the replacement for Pat Smith, who got into some legal trouble earlier in the month. Reports state that Patrick Smith was involved in a high speed police chase in Texas, but eventually his charges were reduced and is now able to compete on the card as planned. As of right now, Ricco Rodriguez and Alexey Oleinik are still expected to compete on the card as well.
