Jake Shields vs. Drew Fickett EliteXC Title Bout Cancelled

From has learned that the EliteXC Welterweight Championship bout between Jake Shields and Drew Fickett has been canceled. The bout was cancelled due to an undisclosed injury sustained by Jake Shields. The bout was scheduled to take place on the EliteXC/Strikeforce event airing on Showtime this Saturday March 29th. No word on whether there will be a replacement opponent for Fickett.

Fickett, 32-5 in his MMA career, is a seven-fight UFC veteran who had secured four victories inside the octagon. Following his last UFC fight, a win over Keita Nakamura in early-2007, he had won back-to-back fights in late-2007 to earn a shot at the EliteXC Welterweight Title.

Shields is a former Shooto champion and current Rumble on the Rock titleholder and has coached notable mixed martial artists Nick Diaz and Gilbert Melendez. He is 20-4-1 in his professional career and is currently riding a nine-fight win streak including his last fight, a November submission victory over Mike Pyle.
