Cro Cop’s Opponent Changed For DREAM 1

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Mar 13, 2008 at 12:00 pm ET4 Comments

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, who was previously rumored to be facing Yoshihiro Nakao at DREAM 1, will instead be taking on a different Japanese fighter by the name of Tatsuya Mizuno.

The change was made after DREAM released their official fight card for the March 15 event several days ago.

Tatsuya Mizuno (3-2) has only competed in Pancrase in his brief career, suffering losses to Thiago Silva and Assuerio Silva.

In addition to the” Cro Cop”-Mizuno bout, DREAM 1 features an impressive lightweight grand prix tournament which may very well shake things up in the lightweight MMA rankings.

sweet! whats next for Mirko? Maybe an open weight match with Jens Pulver for a #1 contender spot in WEC?

What happened to this guy? Its like he went from unstopable to pathetic in a few months…

zac, DREAM is likely doing what the UFC tried to do with Cro Cop but to a more cautious extent. They are going to pit him against some lesser known (probably lousier) opponents to prove himself again, and to rebuild his confidence before fighting notable competition. It’s pretty much a test to see how far Mirko really has fallen off, so its a big must win for him.

Cro Cop was one of the most dominate forces in MMA history. He went the distance with Fedor. Maybe his career is over but he should be inducted into an MMA hall of fame.
