UFC 84: Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes
Rising 205-pound contender Thiago Silva will face off against fellow Brazilian and UFC newcomer Antonio Mendes, in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 84 in Las Vegas, Sherdog announced earlier this week.
Silva was originally scheduled to face Rashad Evans at UFC 84 before Evans agreed to challenge Chuck Liddell at UFC 85, in place of the injured Mauricio “Shogun†Rua. He will instead meet Mendes at the pay-per-view event.
Silva (12-0, 3-0 UFC) is undefeated in his short but challenging MMA career, which includes victories over James Irvin, Tomasz Drawl, and most recently Houston Alexander at UFC 78.
Antonio Mendes (14-2, 0-0 UFC) is currently on an impressive 11 fight win streak which he has kept blemish-free since 2004.

Sounds great, can’t wait to see Thiago again. I think he’s on the fast track to a title shot with 1 or 2 more wins either at the end of 08 or early 09. UFC 84 is gonna be a geat card!
UFC84 is going to be something to watch. (Can’t Wait) All we need to know now is who Jon K, Mr War Machine, is going to be matched up against. I was hoping Paul Taylor, but it might be too soon for him ’cause the fight in Jan. But I am dying to know….
You guys are right. This is a great card! This is defintely the deepest most stacked card the UFC has had in a long long time. It may just be the best ever.
I’m glad to see Thiago’s back as well, but I was really hoping to see him in against a little bigger name or at least a more well known fighter in the US. I’ve checked out Mendes, and his record looks strong and apparently he is a good stand up fighter. If so, this should make for a great fight. I was hoping they would have moved Sokodju in to take Rashad’s place, but again, based on what I have found out about Mendes, this should be a good fight.
I’m kinda glad Soko isn’t fighting Silva. Not that his opponent is a cupcake, but I don’t want to see him lose 2 in a row being totally dominated. He’s gonna be great, just needs some more experience imo.
This fight is a joke, I can’t figure out Dana WHite…why would he throw a tomato can like Mendes to Silva? 205 is loaded..look up Mendes on Sherdog…his last two wins were over guys who were like 2and 1 and 3 and 5. Silva is going to throw this bum down onto the canvas in 4 seconds…the odds on this fight are like 69 to 1…
Silva is gargantuan and ridiculously tough, great fighter, what the **** is this fight all about?
who’s gonna win Wandy-Jardine…great match-up, neither guy can afford to lose, this will be a war (like all Wandy’s fights)
