Shamrocks Come Up Short At Cage Rage 25

Many thought it was a peculiar and unwise move when ProElite announced that they had signed 44-year-old Ken Shamrock to a multi-fight deal. Perhaps those people had a point.

Ken Shamrock didn’t make it out of the first round last night at Cage Rage 25 in London, where he got knocked out shortly after the 3 minute mark by Robert “Buzz” Berry.  Not to take anything away from Berry, but anyone who watched Shamrock in that fight probably thought of the word “retirement” at least once.  After Ken’s lackluster performance, selling a Shamrock-Kimbo Slice match on network television is obviously going to be a little more difficult, assuming EliteXC still wishes to go that route.

Ken’s son Ryan Shamrock, who also recently signed with ProElite, suffered a disappointing TKO loss to Giorgio Andrews due to injury. Doctors examined Ryan’s left hand after the first round, determined it was broken, and stopped the fight.

I watched the Shamrock fight and if anyone else can get a look at it, you will see that the punch that supposedly knocked him out, hit his glove!!! My personal opinion is that he threw the fight!!! Watch it and see….

  • Eric says:

I know everyone says that Ken should retire (present company included ;-) but the man has the balls to go out there and do what he loves….despite the whole world saying that he should quit.

Like it or not…that does say something… be it stupidity or a great heart…or both. ha!

  • JustJoe says:

You know, there’s only 1 Natural. What makes these guys think they can compete at this age? I’m affraid all these aging fighters are just hanging on to collect pay checks. I think someone should consider Inventing a senior circuit mma league for fighters 40 and over. I mean, this is the toughest sport around, you barely see any baseball players or nba players playing in their forties, and mma takes much more conditioning/skill/training etc. etc.

  • Dirty Sanchez says:

    VERY DISAPPOINTED !!!!!

  • belly says:

great upkick by tom watson on this card. ken is done. its hard to watch a legend get beaten by a guy like berry. no doubt berry can hit hard hes a big guy but his 12 and 7 record speaks volumes. he lost to a 50 yr old dan severn.this fight said more about ken than it did about berry. i hope ken can stay in the sport coaching but hes gotta get out now.

  • Sean says:

Ken has been knocked out in the first round of his last 5 fights consecutively.. If that doesn’t say hang it up I don’t know what does. as hard as it may seem to be able to do I feel he is tarnishing his legendary status.. part of being a great fighter, player or anything is knowing when to stop or quit.. and Ken is well past that point. How can someone know matter who they are pull a multifight deal from anyone after losing 8 out their last 10 fights.. all in the first round..

  • JAI says:

Ken could seriously be hurt if he continues to fight. I understand he has the desire and the competive spirit, but HE has to understand that he is no longer being competitive in these fights and is getting beat by guys that wouldn’t stand a chance with him back when he was in his prime. These guys are using his big hame status to make a name for themselves. He has to be smart enough to get out and not let his pride mess around and really get him hurt.

  • Segablack says:

Totally true everyone, Ken Shamrock i loved watching this guy all thought MMA history and loved what he did for the ufc and pride fighting but if you still want to fight do it in the sparring gyms. fighter like ken they fight because they love this sport and just cant stop. but i agree there has to be a point where at a professional level you got to hang it up no matter who you are.

  • MMAFAN says:

I watched the Ken fight on sat and my first thought was that he went down real easy, and did’nt object one bit to the ref stopping it. His last fights he always objects to the ref stopping it. Dont get me wrong Ken was a great fighter but this was truly bad and i think he did throw it. And then for Andy and Dave to big it up quite soo much was a joke

  • kelvin says:

ken wants to be the first real-life rocky fighting at age 60. no matter how great you used to be, IT’S OVER KEN!!!

  • jpm says:

I agree with you Simon, it was as if Ken realised that he had no chance of inflicting any damage on Berry & just wanted to get the hell out of there, I felt a bit sorry for him to be honest.

  • Dirty Sanchez says:

Shamrock seemed afraid and hesitant. He’s missing that eye of the tiger he used to have, no fear. He was just waiting around……

I’m still pissed off today about it !! lol ……

  • scotchydow says:

Tito DEFINATELY still looks better than Shamrock. His son is is bad as he is. How many fighters have fought through broken bones(Rich Franklin, Rampage Jackson, Randy Couture, even Tim Sylvia ETC…) I realize those are all big names, but you have to have heart to fight in MMA. You can’t just go out there and hit a guy as hard as you can, and when he doesn’t go down, tap yourself out so you don’t get hit. I’ll call him “SHAME”Rock from here on out.

  • E-ROC says:

Ken should stop fighting before ends up talking like Evander Holyfield.

  • Dirty Sanchez says:

I would want to see Ken fight one more time, either against Kimbo or Frank and thats it ………..
Maybe knowing its really his last fight will wake him up a bit !!!! or maybe hes just DONE

  • MMAFAN says:

I agree Ken should stop fighting, as Dirty says, he has lost the eye of the tiger. Dont know who turned up on sat night but it was’nt ken shamrock and if i was berry i would’nt be that chuffed to win the fight

  • Mike says:

Shamrock, what a scrub! All bark! i knew there was something to tito ortiz walking right through him 3 times in a row! He basicly just stood in front of buzz and waited to get knocked out! what did he throw like 3 punches! Fighting has evolved and shamrock hasnt 0-5 last 5 fights!

  • johnboy says:

i dont think ken threw the fight even tho the punch didn’t look that good i think ken wa just scared of berry to be honest in no that sounds strange but if u watch the fight fen wa just sorta stalking him but no throwing any punches os kicks and didn’t once go for a takedown, takeing nothing away from berry tho he only went out there and did his job so wish ppl would get off his back is record int nowt to shout about but he got a win over a legand so fair play to the man!

  • Levente says:

Ken should retire. Or if he continues to fight, he should fight Pat Smith or Julian Sanchez. But come on! He’s got to have some money, so he could just lifting weights at home, or watching Tv. Or making Chuck Norris style movies and heel hooking the bad guys. I’m just not interested in “a B fighter beats up Kenny in the first round” matches.

  • h1974 says:

Ken should stop fighting. The punch that put him down was weak. Tito could of took that punch and he sucks.

  • Dirty Sanchez says:

For Kens sake, if you look closely i’m pretty sure it was the straight jab to the chin before the weak right that pushed him downward.
If you notice, he took a deep breath right after the jab landed on his chin as if he was dazed….

During the fight, he wobbled Berry with a nice hook and almost got the takedown, Ken was cautious as he should be with a big strong puncher like Berry.

Yes , hes old and finished but i think he got caught and could have done much better …… I would like to see one more Shamrock fight…

  • h1974 says:

Ken was signed to a multi-fight deal so you will get your wish and see him get his ass kicked a couple more times.

  • SOLO says:

shamrock could never punch very well standing up.
not even in his best years.

since kimbo is a puncher, if ken can grab him and take him down, it is doable.
    i’d say its a 50-50 coin toss.

anyone knows whats doing with dan severn?

  • h1974 says:

If Ken can get Kimbo to the ground i think he would beat Kimbo.

  • johnboy says:

stop liveing in a dream land boys kimbo would kill ken even if ken got him down kimbo would be to strong and just get back up and knock his arse out, ken thanks for some great fights u are a legend but your time is up except it.

  • MMAN says:

Bring on Kimbo! Shamrock has more experience, but Kimbo has a size and strength advantage. Kimbo would clean his clock! Ken would only do it for the money. There is no way he would win this matchup.

  • h1974 says:

Kimbo will never make it in MMA. When he fights anyone thats good he will get his ass kicked.
