Pride Lightweight GP Delayed

The Pride Lightweight Grand Prix originally scheduled for May 20th at the Satima Super Arena has been delayed according to Sherdog and a press release from Pride’s former owners, Dream Stage Entertainment. Here’s a translation of the release from Sherdog:

“As we’re in the midst of transferring business assets between both companies, we have decided that only one month to prepare for the 5/20 event is not enough time to organize the production and promote the event in a manner that reflect our first PRIDE event for the fans. The new date for the Lightweight GP Opening Round will be announced at another time.”

This is not surprising to me as the first time the event even started to emerge with any details was just this past week and the date of May 20th is just over a month away, very little time for the event to be properly marketed to the masses or even arranged for logistically.

Just this week we learned that UFC fighters Matt Hughes and Diego Sanchez would likely be appearing along with Pride star Takanori Gomi. In addition to the fighters we previously mentioned, Satoru Kitaoka sealed up his spot in the GP with a win in the DEEP promotion. I have heard no rumors of any other dates as of yet but I will be sure to pass along any news as soon as I hear it.

matt and diego in the GP…never seen that coming so soon…but atleast we get to see the calibur of the pride fighters up against the ufc fighters…its can possibly be a setting ground for some intense rivalries…and set the bar for whos stronger pride or the ufc…wont take nothing from neither of them but both entities have there fair share of ****ty fights
