“The Ultimate Fighter 8: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir” Finals Are Set
After back-to-back episodes of The Ultimate Fighter 8 last night featuring the semifinals of season’s lightweight and light heavyweight tournaments, the finals are now set with lightweights Phillipe Nover and Efrain Escudero meeting for the season eight 155-pound crown and light heavyweights Ryan Bader and Vinny Magalhaes squaring off for the 205-pound TUF 8 title.
The Ultimate Fighter 8: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir Finale takes place on Saturday, December 13th at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
The Spike TV-broadcast main card kicks off with controversial lightweight Junie Browning facing off against against Dave Kaplan. Also, as previously announced, Kevin Burns vs. Anthony Johnson and Jason MacDonald vs. Wilson Gouveia will be featured on the main card.
The undercard features “The Ultimate Fighter 8” cast members John Polakowski vs. Rolando Delgado, George Roop vs. Shane Nelson, Tom Lawlor vs. Kyle Kingsbury, Jules Bruchez vs. Eliot Marshall, and Shane Primm vs. Krzysztof Soszynski.

I was glad to see Junie get beat, rather than just sent home. I agree with Dana, if not consciously Junie was subconsciously trying to get kicked off, and the best solution was to have him lose. Mr. “I got jui jitsu too!” learned “I don’t got jui jitsu too!” Bader laid and prayed his way to the finals, Marshall did nothing to stop him. Nover showed that he was IMO the best guy in the house, by far.
Decent card with decent matchups.
Nover by ownage.
Magalhaes by arm bar.
Burns tko.
MacDonald choke.
Polakowski tko.
Junie tko if Kaplan tries to show him how he can take his punches….toss up if Kaplan actually follows an intelligent game plan.
Roop over Nelson.
Lawlor over Kingsbury.
Marshall by sub.
Krzysztof by tko.
bader is boooooring, way over-rated IMO. krzystof was winnin that fight with those bada** leg kicks but got caught. nover is a freakin BEAST, hard to believe that’s the guy that fainted in the 1st episode.if vinny develops some really good standup, he’ll be freakin dangerous in the LHW division.
i’m just glad i don’t have to see bisping fight in the UFC for a long long time.
Junie got what was coming to him. What a joke. Way to get shut up, He is all talk and will never be anything more than a prelim bum.
Bader layed and prayed his way to the finals. I hope he takes Vinny to the mat. That is exactly where he wants to be. It should be an easy submission victory for the Team Quest beast.
Nover is dangerous, my god is that kid going to be special in a couple of years.
Nover by ko
Vinny by sub
Johnson by eye poke
McDonald by sub
Polakowski by bear hug
Kaplan by dec
Roop by ko
Kingsbury by dec
Marshall by sub
Kystoff by ko
I hope Bader gets hurt before the finals so I don’t have to watch him. Even if he wins, he’ll be out of the UFC in a year or two.
I thought Krzysztof was winning the fight, continuing to make Vinny stand up and then Krzysztof delibertly went into his guard..!!!!! Didn’t make any sense at all…
As for Junie…simple…he should have been sent home from the beginning.
What would have happened if he hurt someone with flying glass in the eye?
Ruining someones career? Anyone else would have been sent home for lesser offenses…Truly amazing!
I think the quote of the nite (aside from Dana White’s “We beat them off” comment) was when Junie said after his fight “I don’t think I’m as good as i thought I was.”. That made me smile.
I wonder if another promotion will pick him up just cuz people know him and will enjoy watching him get destroyed. Probably not.
Oh boy. One of the LHW’s are out, and JULES is in!
When is JoeSama Bin Rogan going to give us his keen, in-depth analysis of the fights that we are all clearly dying for? He’s long over-due.
Oh, and thanks for ruining everything for me. Now there’s no point in seeing everything on my DVR. Thanks, guys…
Gsquat,
what are you talking about?
bsbiz,
That would be why you watch whats on the DVR *BEFORE* you come back to MMA Frenzy. I know its hard to stay away…but yeah, common sense, man.
BsBiz,
Is it still cool to try to make someone’s name sound like Osama Bin Laden in an attempt to insult them? Was it ever?
Who would’ve thought an MMA forum with posts about the finals and recaps of the TUF episodes might contain spoilers.
Ryan,
JoeSama Bin Rogan was actually the name of a person that posted on here a few times. Some of his posts were actually quite funny.
Ahhh… sorry I missed it.
“This isnt survivor, “Lets Vote ‘em off” **** that you beat him off! That didn’t sound good didnt it?” priceless!
Junie is a dumn ass. All talk no action. After he was beat and his team was talking to him.
All he could do was **** that he couldn’t breath and it was hard. Bla bla bla. Go home loser.
There is no way they would put Jules in for a LHW was out. Elliot or Khrystzoffstzoffstzoff, maybe. Jules? No freakin way.
agreed ^^
Justin, I was a little busy watching WEC to watch TUF. I have my prioritaaaahs.
Go easy on my boy Jules, guys. He’s just now realizing that it’s time to throw a punch against Vinny.
Junie trains at xtreme couture here in vegas, and i dont think i’ve seen him talk to anyone except to say thank’s. maybe he found a sport psycologist.
The gunslinger is back
May I remind all of you people whinning about bader being just a wrestler …….who else was just like him on the ultimate fighter….kos(look at him now)…….rashad(fighting for the title)…hamill(very good)….Maynard(close to a LW title shot)…Not to mention many more…..you guys cant expect bader to be anything but a wrestler this early in his life…..Just watch bader will be a force in the 205 division i guarentee….just watch his striking get better and watch his game become more well rounded…he is a big 205er and could end up being a champ one day……I do believe though that if bader trains with a better team…..say jacksons, xtreme coutures…then he can beat vinny….but if he stays at arizone combat sports then he will be submitted in the first just like cb was last year….arizone doesnt have any reallly good jui jitsu teachers…there mostly all wrestlers and strikers
All good points, gunslinger. Also, welcome back, been on vacation?
thanks, no not really justin … ive logged on a couple times just havent commented on anything for a while…..i missed the action
Personally I’m not sold on Vinny just yet. If Krys just gets up and steps back everytime Vinny pulled guard I could’ve seen him winning. Vinny was getting desperate which included just dropping to the mat hoping Krys would try to jump him. This is MMA and every fight starts on the feet 1st. He needs to work on his standup, cause its terrible. With that said he beats Badder and wins the contract.
Phillipe will destroy Efrian in the 1st round TKO. Like Vinny Efrian isn’t a very good striker and Phillipe looks to be an animal.
I know everyone hates Junie and people all around the US and UK celebrated his loss. But the kid has major issues which just kinda makes me sad. He’s one of those guys who acts tough cause he’s scared. Dana called his bluff and was right on. Hoepfully Junie can get his life straight and find some sort of balance.
i guess im the only one but i like junie…i think he got talent and if its true that he is currently with extreme cature he could get his sh#t together and be succesful…we will see on the finale, i think we will a different junie on the finale
how did junie get beat??? we didn’t get 2 episodes just the one. im pritty gutted i wanted junie to win,
It’s been a while for a recap, usually you all have me laughing and have already made a bunch of good points, but here is my take on.
Phillipe “Gaylord Focker” Nover vs. George “MMM MMM Lawlors fruit” Roop.
In the dressing room Frank Mir is seen pumping up Roop with some gems such as… “Nover is going to destroy you, but if doesn’t you will win” and “Hey after Nover ruptures your spleen, see if he can right you a perscription for vicadin… We will sell them back at the frat house to freshman”.
Nog chooses a different approach by telling Nover that he just saw Roop take Novers mother out for a nice seafood dinner and doesn’t plan on calling her ever again.
As they fight begins Nover throws a combo, Roop utilizes the Lina Kvokov defense and attempts to scale the cage and run home. Nover then throughs Roop to the ground. Roop then sweeps and somehow ends up in Gaylords half guard (Obviously exceeding all expectations by pulling off the sweep and briefly having the upper hand). Phillipe then bends Roops arm until it is pointing magnetic north causing Roop to tap. The cheers from team Nog then cause Mir to realize he was coaching today and pretend he was concerned witht the fact that roop will never again be able to drive a stick shift.
he gave up his neck and got folded into a darce choke
he stopped fighting, in his training Couture should train him on how to have heart, and not play poor me and giveup so easily, very pleased with him getting choked….. i dont dislike the kid just he has alot of personal growth to do imo
junie better shape up and grow up because he is full of talent and its a waste to have that much talent and just give up and act like a D-Bag all the time
So I decided to watch the fights even though everyone ruined the results for me. Jerks.

Holy crap, the Bader/Eliot fight was fifteen minutes of my life I’ll never back. All I got from that was that Eliot has no idea how to fight a wrestler and Bader likes the missionary position. Bader’s prospects for winning: Well, he’s fighting the same kind of guy, so probably better than they should be, although Vinny is better and probably will, as Dana said, “take more risks.”
———————————–
It was an excellent reversal from Roop, but he needed to do something to make Phillipe think about something other than ripping Roop’s arm out of socket. It is hard to see how anyone will beat Phillipe except by a lucky shot.
——————————–
Insert joke about Khrystzoffstzoffstzoff’s hand being his wife here.
Oh, look, Mazzagatti is the ref. That means the fight will get stood up inappropriately at least once. Khrystzoffstzoffstzoff needs to fill in his back tattoo before the finale. The leg kicks were brutal, but very very nice arm bar. Bader will not be able to hope for a lay and pray win. Vinny will do something about that. Unless Bader spends the however many months until the finale doing nothing but jiu jitsu, I see a submission victory for Vinny. Definitely no threat of a knock out in this fight.

Dear Dana:
Thank you calling Junie out, calling him a *bleep* trainwreck, a *bleep* quitter, and for always looking for the *bleep* easy way out when things get tough. Thank you for seeing through him from pretty much the first time he acted out. Thank you for telling him to his face that he wanted to get kicked out just so he could tell everyone that he could have won without putting in the effort. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Sincerely,
The World.
ps: Thank you for the funniest verbal faux pas I have seen in a while.
As nuts as Junie is, he’s got a hell of a lot of talent. To quote the movie Bull Durham, “He’s got a million dollar arm and a ten cent head.” Decent first round. Probably score it for Ephraim. He had better strikes, but it could have gone either way. Nice choke by Efrain, even though Junie let him. I think it is interesting that Junie is fighting with Xtreme Couture. If they can’t get his head out of his ass and into training and a little mental toughness, watch out. He could really kick some asses.
————————————-
Oh, and if I have to watch that fat effer bench press that bloody motorcycle one more time, I’m going to go all Junie on someone.
I think it’s funny they’re still hyping Call of Duty: World at War even though it’s been out for about a month. Amusing to say the least.
Junie has been training at XC, we saw that in Dana’s video blog a while back, and he mentioned it in his blog on UFC.com I would like to see him grow up as well, I think he has done so. Also, I think training a XC is a god way to grow up and get some heart.
Nice to see you back JoeSama, great stuff as always.
