    trying to beat justin first

  2. surfingk5 says:

    Sweet!

I would have to agree with the way this explains the gravity of this fight. Obviously MMA has gone through some amazing transitions and continues to evolve.

Refer back to some of the “greats” through the years. For their time they really were the “greats” of MMA. Right up until about Matt Hughes. Once he was put in his place, the Mixed Martial Artist, tuly evolved into a superior all around athlete.

BJ Penn and Georges St. Pierre ipitomize the “mixed” martial artist. There are some similarities between the two, but the differences are what makes this match up a true “super fight”. Each of them have natural ability 99.9% of the population could only dream of. What they both bring to the table imo makes this fight impossible to call. So…

In case you can’t tell I am a fan of both. That being said I will go for the American BJ. I’m not sayin he’ll win but, out of principle I gotta go with BJ.

  3. bsbiz says:

I think I can sum up the three episodes in a few paragraphs:

    1) Hi!! I’m BJ Penn. I am the UFC Lightweight Champion. I have a black belt in Jiu Jitsu. I’m an effective striker. I used to be a little chubby but now I’m dedicated to my cardio. I’m from Hawaii. Watch me train and meditate on the beach. Unlike Rocky, I won’t run sprints on the beach in a massively homo-erotic montage. I like to eat poi.

    2) Hi!!! I’m Georges St. Pierre. I am the UFC Welterweight Champion. I recently got my black belt in Jiu Jitsu. I used to train in karate. I am a very well rounded MMA fighter. I am French-Canadian. Please don’t hold it against me. I like to eat poutine.

    3) BJP: This is the biggest fight in my career.
GSP: This is the biggest fight in my career.
BJP: I have been training harder than ever for this fight. It means a lot to me.
GSP: I have been training harder than ever for this fight. It means a lot to me.
Dana White: These are two of the *beep* greatest UFC champions of all time. This will be a *beep* exciting fight.
Joe Rogan: GSP has demolished his last four opponents. BJ has won his last three. Something has to give.
BJP: GSP is a phenomenal fighter.
GSP: BJP is a phenomenal fighter.
Dana White: Both these guys are phenomenal athletses. I’m really looking forward to this fight.
Joe Rogan: Both these guys are phenomenal athletses. I’m really looking forward to this fight.
BJP: I’m really looking forward to this fight.
GSP: I’m really looking forward to this fight.

  4. justin says:

Looking forward to the show, definitely looking forward to the fight.

What’s this thing that has recently developed about beating me to post first?…maybe I’m spending a little too much time on here.

    Surfing,
Agreed, on all counts, except not sure exactly what you were saying about Matt Hughes.

  5. B W says:

Hey Kris, When I go to the site the first story I see is about the firhgters passing their drug test for UFC 91. Only after I click the home botton do I see the most recent stories. Just wanted to give you the heads up.

  6. justin says:

    bsbiz,
    That was great….still laughing.

  7. B W says:

@Justin, i think surfing was just saying that GSP’s victory over Hughes ushered in the new era of the complete mixed martial artist.

  8. surfingk5 says:

bsbiz, I can actually hear it from them now. Maybe we’ve already heard it???

Justin, I was just jumping on the wagon about beating you to the post. I never noticed you being on too much. I get complex about how I’m on here too much though. anyway…

Matt Hughes, I think was the last generic “great”. He had a couple of characteristics that made him great. Wrestling, and the guy is retarded strong. (no offense to retards, but you all know how unknowingly strong they can be) He was progressing in bjj, striking but, by the time he was becoming more well rounding the super athletes stepped. He lost the desire I think to keep up. Plus he’s older, blaw blaw blaw.

BJ and GSP aren’t the only ones though. I just think they are the transition or bench mark from one era to the next. I guess my overall point is that they are the culmination of absolutely having to be MIXED. Skill set, strength, cardio, flexibility, mental, student.

Anderson and Lyota are two others that I think are just outside themselves when fighting. They sit there and watch themselves fight. They see it play out and act on it.

can i ramble anymore??? i think so

  9. johnboy says:

hahahahaha cheers bsbiz we prob wont get to watch it over in the uk so thanks for telling me what happens lol,

bj is guna win this fight gsp will fold under the pressure, bj via tko early in the 2nd im thinking 1min 43 seconds

  10. huertarogerhuerta says:

wow spike rip off hbo much? this is 24/7 minus the fact that its on hbo so they cant curse.

  11. justin says:

    surfing,
Bandwagon, gotcha. Sometimes my wife gives me a hard time about how much I’m on here…but usually when she’s home and awake I hang out with her…that’s why my presence falls off after 5pm EST, an picks back up after 11.

That about Matt Hughes makes sense. Although I think Chuck still falls into the generic “great” category in that he only uses stand up, and take down defense, while Forrest, Rampage, and Rashad all can and do use more techniques, Rampage being the least well rounded of the three.

    huerta,
eh, so what if they ripped HBO off, I like the idea, and don’t have HBO so I don’t really care. Also, they can curse, some of it will just get beeped.

  12. surfingk5 says:

right there with you on the homefront justin…mine gives me hell. oh well

  13. Willy D says:

@bsbiz- That was hilariously awesome, but you forgot one thing:
Dana White- This guy loves to f**king fight.

  14. bsbiz says:

    Doh!!! I knew I was forgetting something…

Normally, I’d say I forgot “I want to hurt him”/”I want to kill him”, but I think both of these guys are too classy for that crap.

  15. Gi87 says:

Bsbiz…by far one of the best posts on this site!

    GO BJ

  16. dbiz says:

“I’m from Hawaii. Watch me train and meditate on the beach. Unlike Rocky, I won’t run sprints on the beach in a massively homo-erotic montage.”

For never was a story of more woe, than this of Rocky and his Apollo….

  17. bsbiz says:

Was that via Google or Wikipedia?

  18. Turk says:

    GSP should slap him around.

  19. doubledge says:

You hit dana white dead on funny as hell. I’m going to have to go with GSP this time around
Don’t get me wrong BJ have a very good shot. But I give GSP the edge.

  20. @B W - It should be fixed now. Let me know if you run into it again.

  21. whatever says:

Gsp will win this fight if he stays busyier an keeps Penn on the run the whole fight like he usually dose to all his opponents.

  22. onlytrue1 says:

This is gonna be 1 sick fight!!! I love’em both but I do give GSP a slight edge in this fight!

He has gotten so much bigger and better and just plain tougher!

UNLESS {which is obvious} BJ can get this to the ground, and use his superior BJJ, then it does seem to favor GSP.

  23. gunslinger says:

I really cant pick a winner in this fight…I actually wouldnt be mad if it went to a draw just so neither of them win…..but think about it if bj wins and then lets say anderson does fight for the lhw title someday we could see the ufc title holders looking like this…

    LW-BJ Penn
    WW-BJ Penn
    MW-Anderson Silva
    LHW-Anderson Silva
    HW-Lesnar/Nog

  24. jparker says:

GSP will destroy Penn. He has superior cardio, strength, size and athleticism.

Penn is better at BJJ and he is also a great striker and extremely flexible.

I cannot see GSP giving this one up to BJ. He will most likely TKO him when Penn’s endurance runs out.

  25. whatever says:

Bj shouldnt even get a shot at the title, he lost his last two fights at 170. Bj has nothing to lose, if he does he still has the 155 belt….stupid… he should have to beat a couple of top ranked 170 fighters first.

  26. jiujitsuMAN says:

or put his own belt up

  27. gunslinger says:

he cant gsp cant make 155 lbs!…gsp would lose almost all of his power and wrestling advantage if he had to cut to 155…but as long as gsp does the greg jackson nipple tweak he will win…Im gonna start doing that before every fight…Tweaking your nipple before a fight should be investigated it must like pump up your adrenaline or something man it just has to or at least focus in your inner chi/focus/power…jk
