Fedor Cancels US Media Tour To Start Training Camp
WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko has canceled a planned US media tour to begin training for his January 24th matchup at Affliction: Day of Reckoning against Andrei Arlovski. The decision to cancel the tour and begin his training camp early was made following his loss at the 2008 World Sambo Championships in Russia earlier this month.
“My trainers, Vladimir Voronov and Alexander Michkov, met with me in Russia after the World Sambo Championships and we decided that the Arlovski confrontation is too important to delay a comprehensive training camp in exchange for press tour obligations on the other side of the world,” said Emelianenko in a press release announcing the cancellation. “Andrei Arlovski is a dangerous fighter and has looked in prime condition and at the top of his game in his last few fights. He is one of the top three heavyweights in the world. This is not a fighter I will defeat if I am taking shortcuts in training.”

He was planning a less than 8 week camp…wow. Nothing like losing at something to remind you that it still takes some work.
at least he’s not pulling a werdum…
Fedor is using the sambo loss to get back on track ….. smart !! he recognizes A.A. is a step up from sylvia , even with having lost to sylvia twice . If A.A. and tim fought today Andrei would beat him .his standup game has improved with the added boxing training .Actually I’d rather see arlovski vs Barnett . that would be a good fight .
Don’t worry P4P King your so awesome that you could beat the sh!t out of Arlovski weighing 300bl + with huge man boobs flapping aboot
Fedor’s Awesome (clap, clap, clap, clap)

Fedor armbar in the 1st
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (5-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC), a highly touted light heavyweight who joined the UFC last year, has been dropped from the organization following a recent loss to Luis Cane.
The PRIDE veteran and Team Quest fighter went 1-2 in the UFC.
Kouch,
Kris said he was going to post that today in a quick hits. Thanks for that though.
Fedor is OVER-RATED! to much hype for him. he called out brock…..i wanna see that….i wanna see him exchange with him. thats a fight
Arlovski still seems to be a tentative fighter, it’s a long way back to the confident guy he used to be and i dont think he’s there. Losses affect guys differently like Loiseau, sucked the confidence right out of him. Fedor on the other hand seems to be one of the most confident fighters i’ve seen with good reason, i too see this going to the ground quick as a wink, maybe AA gets one or two glancing shots and thats it he’s down. I do give him a punchers chance, if he can stun Fedor somehow he is a good finisher with power and speed, but i think in his mind this fight is too big a challenge against a guy who some say is a living legend.
Fedor in the 1st. If AA makes it to the 2nd, he will be one of the very few. Fedor is hands downthe best fighter in the world. Its hard for him to fight top competition when only 2 fighters come close to him, and he’s already beat nog twice. They have to sign Barnett and fedor, its inevitable. Hockey sucks!
I don’t like it but I’ll say it again…AA better bring his A game. Fedor may have a fire lit under his ass after that loss.
Having said that I hope that fedor can manage to fight more often and fight legitmate fighters such as AA. I find it hard to understand that so many in the media and fans pay so much attention to this guy. I wish they would put more pressure on him to fight more frequently.
Until that happens I’ll let you all enjoy that band wagon.
And one more thing.
Fedor is a douche bag for not giving the respect to AA in the first place. I hope his “extra” effort of a normal training camp is for not.
Dear Buddha,
Please help AA kick Fedor’s ivory tower ass.
Sincerely,
Struggling Buddhist
Fedor is good, but not sure he’s the best. I hope AA wins especially after fedor apparently wasn’t taking him seriously.
justin do you realize you made no sense at all
why is this AA not barnett vs fedor??
cause’
i figure that barnett is fedor’s friend and also has
a higher chance of beating fedor than anyone i can think of because he is big,
great on the ground, and
different than anyone else fedor has fought - (what the hell is catch wrestling anyway?!). also his hands put rizzo to.
while AA has slick striking he might not have a chance on the ground although we’ll see…
and if fedor beats both A then josh…
the
AA/barnett fight ‘would be huge’ (as dana would say).
i’ve heqard hightower might return to MMA
did anyone see his KO of mark hunt-
needless to say it wasnt to the head - but gosh darn gee.
when he fought fedor his ground was very weak - but he’s so strong he managed to go the distance by holding fedors arms like a kids for the fight
funny , i’ve only heard him speak very respectfully of AA.
also did he call out borck or is affliction just teasing ufv
this is also about as close to ‘hyping a fight’ as fyodor gets
@ C-RO, let me see if I can explain it to you more clearly.
Fedor is good, but not sure he’s the best. I hope AA wins especially after fedor apparently wasn’t taking him seriously.
Is that better? Glad I could clear it up for you.
that was me being psarcasmical again…
Russia, catch wrestling is one of the oldest martial arts in western civilization. Back when “pro” wrestling was real, it was catch as catch can wrestling. And champions of the late 1800s and early to mid 1900s would take on any martial artists, and usually win, whether it was jiu jitsu, judo, or boxing. I suggest you check it out, and that’s why I believe Josh is the only man that will dethrone fedor, (or at least come close)
yea it works good along w. josh barnett’s other mma skills
training against BJJ might not help you w. josh
Catch Wrestling is also the technique that Sakuraba (the Gracie Hunter) used to defeat the Gracies.
Thanks for explaining that to C-RO, surfingk5.
Well, I am really happy! Fedor does what he has to and it’s training! Why the hell should he tour in the U.S? What the hell is a media tour? And who is interested in that anyway? Fedor is a great fighter, and as a fan of mma, I want to see him fight, and fight as good as possible. And it means that I want him to stay in Russia and hit that tire with that big hammer, and only come to the U.S for the match. I can’t believe what happened to him, he used to wear those streaky pants, but now he is wearing Affliction t-shirts and poses with Randy. But I’m glad that he’s gonna train now, I think we should thank that Blagoi Ivanov guy for beating Fedor and make him realize what’s his job.
Here’s a little quote from wikipedia about Arolovski. “He also took a silver medal at the Sambo World Cup and another silver medal at the World Sambo Championship.[7]” It says he won them shorty after 1999. So that shows the AA is no slouch on the ground. Also, AA has never been submitted well atleast in MMA. This fight will be alot better than some of you think it will. AA definatly has a shot and I think he’s going to win by KO.
No prob justin.
As you know I don’t mind a smart A$$. But at least have the intestinal fortitude to explain why you’re being a D**k instead of making a comment like c-ro did and not explaining further and/or responding at all. What a tool
Personally I expect Fedor to win a ground and pound battle against AA, but I think it’ll go the distance.
AA has NOT came close to looking impressive on the ground in any of his fights. He still utilizes a stall technique, trying to wrap up his opponent and have the ref stand them up. This will NOT work against Fedor in the least, it’ll only give Fedor time to work for submissions. Whats crazy is AA is also a Sambo black belt, so you’d think he’d use more submissions from the guard, but nope. And don’t even get me started on his ground technique against Ben Rothwell.
Remember his fight against Jake O’Brien? Seriously, Jake could not have been giving AA his neck MORE when he was going for those takedowns. Now I know AA won, but he is going to be overwhelmed by Fedor. Mark this as a kinda Randy/Sylvia style fight, only the 3rd round where Randy stayed on his feet against Sylvia will be replaced with more Ground and Pound.
fedor is human of course - but i do think he has RAISED THE BAR BY:
NOT HAVING TO STICK TO GAMEPLANS.
while fighters mostly know they have to mix things up at least enough to avoid being transparent…
a lot of the time you can see right away which direction they are planning to move their feet in. chute, kick leg from distance etc..
i find even watching his fights over and over it’s hard to tell whether he’s i prrepared - i know he’ll study but he says nothing in interviews about strategy
Well it’s December. I think that means Fedor is overdue for a mysterious hand injury due to
flogging the dolphin, I mean, bopping the bishop, I mean.rubbing one out, I mean training.i guess while affliction has the best hW’s they only have a few.
i got the impression was that they’d get more tickets sold with barnett vs arlovski and then fedor vs. the winner, but when the
realized the card wouldn’t draw well enough without fedor they switched to fedor/AA.
i’d pay to see any of those myself
I dont think AA has got what it takes… not even in the stand-up!
I havent seen him take any serious risks, he is very timid and seemed to lack imagination.
He has long hands, but does not use them properly. I say that Fedor wont even bother to try to sub him. I see Fedor moving right in while standing up, just like by that Timmie ‘fight’ where Fedor just stepped in and turned his lights out
re: surfingK5 comment
I resent u saying that Fedor is a douche bag. I havent heard him say anything bad about anyone. He is always calm and polite to everyone.
Havent heard him boast. U might say that certain amount of luck was a factor, but u cant deny that Fedor got decent stand-up, and strong ground game.
The only thing I havent seen in his arsenal is some strong kicks. Am I wrong?
I dont remember Fedor doing any major damage by kicking anyone, no?
