WEC Releases Paulo Filho

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Nov 18, 2008

Paulo FilhoWorld Extreme Cagefighting, ahead of its December middleweight and light heavyweight merger with the UFC, has released former 185-pound champion Paulo Filho (16-1).

Filho’s manager, Ed Soares, confirmed the release today with CagePotato.com.

“It’s true. We’ve recevied paperwork that they’re releasing him from his contract,” said Sores. “The WEC’s been great throughout everything, but it’s understandable. He’s had a rough year. We have faith that he’ll be back. I still believe he’s one of the best middleweights in the world.”

Filho’s release comes less than two weeks after his first career  loss to Chael Sonnen at WEC 36. Filho missed the 185-pound middleweight limit by seven-pounds for the matchup then put on a disappointing performance in the bout, losing to Sonnen via unanimous decision.

Filho, go get some help seriously for whatever your issues maybe

Yet with the demise of the WEC MW division he may have been just released from that specific contract???? Even tho I personally doubt he will be in the UFC MW division anytime soo but ya never know, but the guy needs to get his shhhh together

  4. timcat says:

Big surprise here. Wow, he better get his act together.

  5. justin says:

Maybe after his performance they decided he needed to get it together and fight his way back in, rather than just transfer over his contract like they seem to be doing for Stann and Cantrell.

  6. dbiz says:

NO AUTOMATIC UFC CONTRACT FOR YOU!!!

  7. mburtoni says:

I hope he gets better. He was a great fighter in his prime - I wish him no ill will. He is obviously suffering from more than just substance abuse problems. He was talking to himself during the Sonnen fight. Maybe he has just been hit in the head one too many times.

  8. Dietrich says:

He is lucky he got paid for the last …appearance???

  9. Mikew says:

I agree he didnt earn his money in the last fight, too much of the star life maybe.
