Anderson Silva Not Yet Offered Chuck Liddell UFC 95 Fight

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Nov 18, 2008

Anderson Silva Retains Title at UFC 90UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has not yet been offered the UFC 95 headlining bout against Chuck Liddell on February in London, but he would be “honored” to fight Liddell if given the chance.

Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, today confirmed the news with CagePotato.com.

“We haven’t been offered that fight. It’s just a rumor at this point. Anderson wants to fight the best and to fight superfights, the biggest fights the UFC can put on, and a fight with Chuck would obviously be a huge fight. What an honor it would be for Anderson to fight Chuck. There’s no bad blood between them, but Chuck is a huge star and it would be a great fight. Obviously we’ll have to wait and see, but Anderson doesn’t pick his opponents. He just wants to fight the biggest fights possible.”

Good for chuck cuz he doesn’t want to get destroyed again.

I am one who thinks chuck was finished after “sugar” sent him dreaming to never never land. If this fight is put on it will not be as big as it would’ve have been, if chuck didn’t get killed. If lidell wants to keep fighting here are my suggestions…

    houston alexander

    eric schaefer

    brandon vera

    or luiz cane

he needs to start back @ the bottom.

  2. There is really is no point for Chuck to start back at the bottom. The UFC wants money and Chuck thinks a couple of big wins could put him back in title contention. Which the way the UFC works a couple wins especially one against the Spider would put him back at the top.

IMO the only way Chuck has a chance in this fight is attempt a few bombs and then take the Spider down. Good luck Chuck.

In his post-UFC 91 interview, Kenny Florian spoke an urgent truth when he said “if you’re not constantly evolving in this sport, you’re dead.” This truth urgently pertains to Liddell; Such relevant fighters as Florian, GSP, Thiago Alves, Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin and others continually improve in each of their successive bouts; each time we see them, they are different and better fighters. The same can not be said about Liddell. In a recent interview, he talked about being “stricter, more disciplined” in his striking and gameplans. I don’t know if that would be enough to defeat A. Silva. Silva excels at picking apart his opponents, exploiting their weaknesses and landing the majority of the strikes he throws. This is a good match up for Silva, but not good for Liddell.

I hate to say this and i know that no one on this planet will agree with me but,I really think that Chuck will give Anderson some problems.I think that Chucks fighting style and his reach is gonna be a huge factor in the fight. After what Rashad did to him in his last fight,he’s gonna gonna come out and fight the way he did when he fought W.Silva.More focus, more drive, and fighting a guy like Anderson who is at the top of his game,he will be ready.I think that in the fights with Jardine and Rashad he was way to sure that he was gonna just knock them out and move on to the next one.But when he fought Wandy he knew it was gonna be a hard fight, and that’s when he came with his A game. Now don’t get me wrong,Anderson Silva is a sniper. And im not saying all this cause i like Chuck better, cause i like them bolth the same.I just think that Chuck will come out on top and alot of people will be suprised. And if Anderson destroys him no one will be suprised…..I guess only time will tell.

    Couture vs Anderson Silva

  6. Kyle says:

What the hell does IMO mean every time i read some comment that says that i never know what it means.

  7. jwoody810 says:

    In my opinion

  8. Nico says:

What no one belives in Chuck anymore just because he lost a few fights. the man looses 3 fights in about the past year and everyone thinks he is done. He has only lost 5 fights in his career. i say its about time. what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. I agree he needs to refocus but he is still the iceman.

Its funny before the Rashad fight i was about the only person routing for Rashed (Because he trains in my neighborhood of course) and everyone thought chuck would KO Evans. Now its those same people that are talking smack about Chuck being finished and needs to start all over.

  9. dbiz says:

We’re talking smack because he hasn’t evolved, and as KenFlo said…if you don’t evolve and grow in MMA you’re extinct. Well, if Chuck doesn’t stop trying to stand at all costs, he’s dead. Period. He’s not confident in any other aspect of his training because he flat out refuses to use anything else. One dimensional fighters go downhill quickly.

  10. Fr702 says:

Nico, you live in Arroyo Grande that’s cool man

  11. Markus J says:

I’d be all for seeing Anderson fight at his walk around weight of 225 and beat the snot out of Brock Lesnar. But that’s just me personally! =)

  12. Markus J says:

Hell… if Anderson wanted he could probably hold 3 world titles at once. lol.

  13. surfingk5 says:

Markus J, unless he decides he’s able to smash his friends faces in it will never happen.

  14. southcakalak says:

if this fight were to happen chuck would have to lift those hands up a about 18 inches or he might just find that the spiders shin was the last thing he ever saw

that being said…i’ll be pulling for him…with one eye closed

  15. justin says:

Silva would likely own Chuck, but Chuck still has a punchers chance. Unless he pulls a new trick out of his bag, and maybe uses some of his wrestling skills just to throw Silva off his game plan.

  16. surfingk5 says:

    @ Kris,
Can you email me please. I have a question I’d rather not air to everyone.

  17. mo says:

Man it annoys me too that all this hating on chuck is well below the belt!! If he beats rashad none of this talk would be happening, by the way he was winning the fight up until he got caught, and to be fair to rashad it was a nice shot!!
However if they fought tomorrow id be putting my money on chuck to win!!
his weakness IMO is the crowd not his so called one dimensional style, when chuck hears the boos he generally pushes the pace and chases his opponent which in turn takes him in to his weakness! He nust stick to his plan and not get frustrated.
Liddell v jardine 2 I say!! anderson down the line for chuck!!

  18. jenkins says:

the only way he could beat silva is wait for silva to come at him then throw some counter haymakers. basically, pull a rashad evans hahaha. because after silvas last fight, we all know he is going to want to come right out and fight the way he did before the cote fight…aggresively. chuck can take him down, sure, but that would be idiotic. does anyone seem to remember what happened when lutter took him down? or what about when henderson got him down? oh yeah they got submitted! and chuck isnt on the level on the ground that lutter and henderson are. silvas bjj is too good for chuck. the only way chuck could win would be by knnocking him out early. and that would be tough. its very possible. but very tough to do….

  19. justin says:

I just wanted to make it clear, I don’t think that Chuck would beat Silva on the ground. I just think it would really mess up Silva’s expectations for Chuck to come in and try to wrestle with him. Maybe enough to get him guessing and get caught…big maybe.

  20. jiujitsuMAN says:

like the dinosaurs evolve or die

unless chuck were to come out with a flying arm bar i dont see him beating silva

  21. Matt says:

all it takes is 1 punch 2 land so im goin 4 liddell !!!

  22. Us And Chuck says:

The only way Chuck beats Silva if Silva still believes his hype and acts a prick like he was with Cote or Chuck reverts to his wrestling he is a great wrestler and with the right tactics he could walk away with a decision

  23. dbiz says:

Matt, by the time Liddell throws that 1 punch he has eaten at least 20 from Silva. Not good odds. He has a chance, but he can’t just stand and strike or he’s going to sleep like he did against Rashad (one of the harshest KOs I can remember recently).

  24. Ryan in NY says:

I think people (myself included) question Chuck’s ability at this point because 2 of his recent losses were KO’s. Personally, I feel like if you’re going to be a striker and prefer fights where you stand and exchange with your opponent you NEED to have a strong chin. Without a question Anderson Silva would test his chin more than Rampage or Rashad did and for that reason I don’t see Chuck winning. Sorry… I’d love to say it’ll be a close fight but I don’t see Chuck making it out of the first / second round unless he brings a gun into the cage.

Markus: Does Anderson REALLY walk around at 225? I find it hard to believe that he cuts 40 lbs to make 185 but… I’ve been surprised before.

  25. johnboy says:

people saying one dimensional fighters are as good as dead make me laugh very loud, example: maia (man im hateing on this guy alot) frank mir (his last fight he beat the world champ), chuck will always have a chance to win imo, i cant belive all the hate towards the iceman, him and randy made mma what it is 2day, people need to show more respect to the iceman, but chuck is in a no lose situation if he does fight silva, every1 thinks he’s done and expect’s him to get beat, but if chuck hits silva on the chin and the spider goes down every1 will be saying chuck is the man, he deserves a shot at forrest etc,

  26. E-ROC says:

I’m not a Chuck Liddell hater. Couture vs Anderson Silva is a match up that I personally want to see. That may differ with other opinions.

  27. kenny says:

chuck is finished in this sport he needs to retire and possibly train younger better fighters his age has caught up to him its time to say goodbye to chuck

  28. kenny says:

i agree that randy and chuck made this sport what it is today but the real fighters are ken shamrock, tank abbott, royce gracie etc these guys fought sometimes 4 fights in one night to be the best all these other guys fight one fight every 3 months

  29. Fr702 says:

Some of the “now” fighters have fought in tourneys a couple of times a night as well some have fought in the IVC shows (Chuck/Wanderlei) soo just because they are the most famous fighters doesn’t mean they didn’t earn their mettle the ol fashion way
