Sherk, Griffin, Dos Santos, and Fisher Earn $65,000 UFC 90 Bonuses
Sean Sherk, Tyson Griffin, Junior Dos Santos, and Spencer Fisher each earned $65,000 bonuses for their efforts at UFC 90 “Silva vs. Cote”.
“Fight of the Night” honors went to lightweights Sherk and Griffin, who, despite wrestling pedigrees, engaged in a standup battle for three full rounds with Sherk walking away with a close unanimous decision victory.
“Knockout of the Night” went to the newcomer Dos Santos, who discatched heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum with a highlight reel knockout early in the first round of their matchup.
“Submission of the Night” was awarded to lightweight Spencer Fisher, who submitted Shannon Gugerty via triangle choke late in the third round of their preliminary bout.

I knew once Werdum stepped in the octagon he was goin to lose, that dude looked so much out of shape compared to past bouts and he didnt have his mind right you could tell, Dos Santos was a beast and had the right gameplan. Though Sherk won i personally thought Tyson won by split, UFC 90 overall was decent coulda been better had the main event ended by ko or sub
I wonder why these guys got 25k more than the guys that got the same bonuses in the UK. Maybe its based off a percentage of the gate or something(?) And in regards to Werdum, when he went down I was thinking “Well, that’s why you’re not fighting Randy next month.” He’ll be back, and he’ll beat some more fighters, and he may get a shot one day, but Santos looked pretty good in that fight.

Dos Santos really left me wanting more this guy needs to get a shot at Kongo or Carwin for a good stand up war, well now that Sherk won I think he and Maynard are due for a number 1 contender match Maynard vs Sherk for a title shot.. really tho if Maynard wins he has beaten Edgar and Sherk in his last two fights and if Sherk wins he has beaten Griffin and Maynard in his last two fights sounds like a quality number 1 contender to me. Thiago looked amazing last night vs Koscheck , I cann’t wait for his title shot vs GSP or Penn, would like it more if was GSP because GSP has the stand up to match Thiago and I’d like to see if GSP could take him down, cause if Koscheck cann’t I don’t think GSP can.
The bonuses for pay-per-view events are generally larger because they generate more money for the UFC than the Spike TV shows.

You notice the bonuses keep going up. They usedd to be $35,000. Then went to $40,000. Now it’s $65,000. The UFC is sharing their wealth. The bonuses and purses will most likely continue to grow. Seriously, what was Werdum thinking? He’s from Brazil too, he’s had to have heard of Santos. He trains with Anderson Silva and Minotauro for crying out loud. I couldn’t believe he showed up so out of shape. There goes that title shot.

Griffin held his own in there big time, very exciting. I think he would ruin Huerta. Especially on his feet. That guy has some sick striking. I was pleased for Sherk, he did very well. He got a little left hand happy towards the end but hell, if he’s trying to make it exciting then good for him. Whats next for Sherk?
Im lost for words with Werdum. The guy looked flabby and looked exactly like I did when I went through a stage of Body Building. He seems to have way too much protien in his diet and not enough lifting. lol Stick to the fighting diet Werdum.
Dos Santos looks excting for the future. Had a little wager on that guy, woohoo. lol

Chris. If the UFC were to give Dos Santos a title shot after knocking out Werdum and that being his only fight, then I would be a little upset.
Brock Lesnar has been very impressive in his first two fights for the company. When he fought Mir, the only experience Lesnar had was a little GNP for a few mins. He very nearly beat Mir and only lost due to his own inexperience.
When he fought Herring, he completely demolished him. Herring also beat Kongo and had Big Nog in a hell of a lot of trouble (who is currently your interim title holder). I think Lesnar deserves it more.
But I agree with you, Dos Santos did very well, maybe in a few fights he can fight for that belt!

Watching this card I was almost sure that Alves - Kos was going to get fight of the night. What gives there? Sherk did turn in a better than usual performance, too bad there are not many other matchups for him where the other guy has short arms too. It was good to actualy see him connect with a few strikes and it was an entertaining fight.
On Brock, he isnt so much getting a title shot as he is getting a chance to embarass Couture for the UFC. Its a Win-Win for him, and a really risky fight for Randy IMO.

how the hell can you blame it on dana, first of all joe silva does the matchmaking not dana. and even if he did what… he made patricks knee blow out think before you type.
I thought the card as a whole was okay. Regardless of what I read I can’t help but think that Silva was in total control of the fight. He said that Cote was giving him headaches, but when has anyone ever heard him say anything disparaging of another fighter.
Sherk/Griffin was amazing I had a friend over who is ne to MMA and for that to be the first fight he saw I couldn’t be happier. He will be a fan for life.
