Affliction has officially confirmed that Fedor Emelianenko (29-1) will face Andrei Arlovski in the main event of Affliction: Day of Reckoning on January 24th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The event was originally scheduled to be headlined by Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett on October 10th in Las Vegas, but was postponed due to low ticket sales.
Day of Reckoning will air live on pay-per-view and is also slated to feature Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Matt Lindland vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral. Josh Barnett and Chris Horodecki are among additional fighters scheduled to be in action at the event with additional bouts to-be-announced.

Sweet sounds like a good card, and for all you affliction haters out there i would like to say keep in mind that competition is a good thing. The UFC is without a doubt the best mma organiztion out there, but cards like this will keep them on their toes.
I got
- Fedor of course, tko first round.
- little nog (sub second round)
- and lindland, now that he’s knocked the rust off big slam in the second.
I would also like to add that it’s nice to see barnett in the states fighting, and comming in in good shape. Anyone know who horodecki is fighting, i hope it’s someone legit who won’t fall for his week sweep he does every fight.
Decent card so far, good main event but its definitely missing something.
This card is surrounded by UFC 93 ( Hendo - Franklin ) and UFC 94 ( St-pierre - Penn ), both in which I am not missing……….
They better throw in a few more big names and interesting matchups because Little Nog and Babalu are not cutting it.
PUSSIES HAD TO RERESCHEDULE LOL…. DANA SHOULD MOVE THERES BACK JUST TO BE AN ASS…
No room in the budget for more Pay Per Views, once a month UFC is enough for me.
isn’t Horedecki fighting Dan Louzon?
my bad that was in elite which isnt happening now sorry
Why would anyone want to fight Fedor? He is un stoppable
fixxer:
that is way people (want to) fight him….Nothing to lose…Everything to gain!
i think AA is guna shock fedor, arlovski must be on a high haveing destroyed his last 2 oponants, im guna go out on a limb here and say arlovski is guna tko fedor 2nd round
JohnBoy, granted AA did destroy his last two opponents… Rothwell and Big Country…. not exactly Fedor material…..
i really am looking forward to seeing this fight between AA and Fedor, i would have much rather see Josh v Fedor (im biased ive wanted to see them fight forever)…. but AA v Fedor should be an awesome battle…. The Janitor will get his first test in quite sometime…
if this fight card ever actually happens
Yah, i’m speculating this will be afflictions last card. It’s too bad becuase they put on these great cards with guys that can’t win UFC titles anymore, but still put on great shows.
The exception being Fedor, he could win a title.
This is a great card. I hope they do well and continue to put on great cards. Atleast they pay their fighters what they deserve. If Dana runs everyone out of business, then he can continue to pay fighters less.
I wonder what Dana and SPIKE have up their sleeves. They’ll probably re-run UFC 92: Nogueira vs. Mir, from Dec 27th, the night of Afflicetion: Day of reckoning.
Affliction should stick to 3 or 4 cards a year and do them well. No need to try to compete with the UFC, just put forward a card every 3 months with the best you have.
Yea, Well said Mikew. No one will favour Affliction over UFC so they will have to do it step by step.
Honestly they shouldn’t have even put it this month. You think the average MMA fan is gonna spend $150 on MMA for 1 month? How many of you will actually buy all 3? Penn GSP is a must for any real MMA fan. So now its a toss up between Hendo Franklin or Fedor AA. Not to mention I agree with Gonzo spike will air a recent PPV, but I think it will be couture Lesnar. If they do that, they will cripple their buys. I estimate them at 85,000 buys losing another 5 mil or so. It won’t be as big of a loss as the 1st show, but that’s because this one doesn’t have as many overpaid fighters on it as the 1st.
PS Golden Boy/affiliction please refer to Pro elite and realize this isn’t the business for you if your in it for a quick buck
Barnett in good shape? We’re not gonna see Josh “Spare Tire Rippling” Barnett fight the way he has for the last 3 or 4 years?
Hell, that’s a disappointment. If a friend shells out for this one, I might watch it. But I’m not buying it with the UFC ones also coming there.
the funny thing is Affliction pays these guys about 5 times the ammount of money the UFC would ….. so …… why not just pay them slightly more than the UFC would instead . They dont really have too many U.S. options now , and Japan /korea is not for everyone .
I think they should just stick to backing other promotions … pay for a few purses in exchange for advertising time and venues for sales . It would be a win /win situation . Strikeforce could run the PPV and combine a few matches for a packed card we’d want to see .
have Fedor vs AA
Cung Le vs robbie lawler - wamma middleweight belt
Lindland vs babalu
Carano vs guyborg
Diaz vs ishida - winner gets Thomson for the belt
Joey Val vs Vitor Belfort - winner gets a shot at cung le
kaitlin young vs sarah kaufman
scot smith vs hector lombard
and open the show with good ole Kimbo vs someone with the same ammount of experience so it is fair ….hahahaha ……..
I’D BUY IT !!!! wooooooooooooooooo
by the way …… cung le vs lawler ……. I think cung wins . Anyone else have other thoughts on that ? Im curious ……..
Doom, good thought there but I’m unsure if StrikeForce will align themselves with Affliction
WAMMA I believe should go away they aren’t needed imo
Cung Le v Robbie Lawler hmmmmm nice, Cung 2nd rd (t)ko
I just figured since each one is a champion of the middleweight division , it would make for a wamma kinda fight . I am not partial to wamma either but maybe it could be seen as a sort of ‘RING ‘ magazine style award . They offered one or two in the UFC but Dana said no . he has every right to do it , its his show . But really if we think about it what harm would it do him ? None …. its just another trophy for his fighters to have . He still runs every aspect of the show .Even wamma rates the bulk of the UFC guys in the top spots as is , would be hard to find better qualified canidates than the UFC .At least in the heavier weight classes . DREAM kinda has the best GROUP of lightweight talent …. and other than maybe the cung /lawler bout and any fight fedor is in , UFC has it .
did’nt elitexc buy strikeforce? if so do they close shop as well? i think fedor will finish AA in quick fashion. AA’s last two “big” wins over average opponents wont help much in preperation for the wrath of fedor. i also think cung vs. lawler would be cool. it would be a standup battle, because imo if robbie could not do it quick…cung would PUNISH him with those kicks!
… They just co-promoted ….pro Elite owned Elite xc , Cage rage , Icon , spiritMC and king of the cage ………Which still makes me wonder why they just didnt fold at least King of the Cage and incorperate some of the guys … but oh well …. we just get to say goodbye .
I think the UFC should pick some of the regional promotions and use them. Not buy them, not direct them, but use them. Toss a few mill a year at Cage Rage to get the UK MMA scene flourishing and when the fighters are ready, sign them.
Same with Strikeforce out in PNW. Use them as feeder systems. If someone shows promise on TUF but can’t cut it in the UFC yet, get them in with one of those orgs to fight for a year or two. If they pan out, sign em and pay a bonus to the org that farmed them.
There are multiple minor leagues (for lack of a better term) for all other pro sports that have one dominant pro league. The UFC should be investing in these smaller promotions. Encourage them to grow and when a fighter becomes truly dominant at that level, sign them and pay a bonus to the org that raised them.
WEC rings a bell
They bought WEC champ. If you READ, I explicitly said they SHOULDN’T buy them. I thought I made that part abundantly clear. When I said “I think the UFC should pick some of the regional promotions and use them. Not buy them, not direct them, but use them.”
Even if the fight lasts 2 minutes.. watching the last emperor fight > all UFC fights.. simply because he truly is the best fighter in the world and it’s fun to watch him rape faces.
I just wish they would have an oldschool no weight class tourney.. and let fedor beat everyone in MMA’s head in 4 fun.
Fedor’s combined opponents win/loss/draw/nc record
395-214-17 (4NC)
Chuck Liddell’s combined opponents win/loss/draw/nc record
457-185-14 (2NC)
Anderson Silva’s combined opponents win/loss/draw/nc record
420-202-12(3NC)
*note I didn’t count rematches in the total ie Nogueria or Couture, Horn,Sobral , Tito ect*
This is being pretty F~ing bored on a Sunday evening
Yeah, you would have to be pretty bored to put that together. That is pretty interesting info though. Not sure if you can say (necessarily) that Chuck is better than Fedor because he’s fought better guys, but the numbers do make a good case for chuck maybe having a better resume, even with some of his losses.
@Justin, by no means am I stating that Chuck is better than Fedor.. I just took some of my favs and did this, it does put in perspective the quality of opponents that Chuck has faced sometimes that hard to remember with his recent nap handed down to him by Evans… It was a interesting experiement if u you I was going to do it with others Wanderlei,GSP,Big Nog, BJ Penn ect.. But I haven’t been that bored yet
