Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski To Headline “Day of Reckoning”

By: Kris Karkoski | Oct 12, 2008

Fedor EmelianenkoA heavyweight bout between WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelinaneko (29-1) and Andrei Arlovski (15-5) will headline Affliction “Day of Reckoning”, which is scheduled to take place on January 24th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio recently confirmed the news to MMA Rated.

Though the event will still be promoted in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, the card will be composed entirely of mixed martial arts bouts.

Arlovski was last in action last weekend at EliteXC “Heat” where he defeated Roy Nelson via second-round TKO. Emelianenko last fought in July at Affliction’s first event, “Banned”, submitting Tim Sylvia just 36-seconds into their main event bout to win the WAMMA title.

Fedor is on the cover of this month’s Grappling and inside he is showing a few of his techniques but both he and his partner look really out of shape. The other dude has fat guy nipples. I bet Joe silva wouldn’t give him the Roy Nelson treatment but the gut has got to work against him eventually. If not, pass me the fried twinkies!

Just when Arlovski’s career looked to be turning around for the best he is being fed to Fedor. Definitely a match I’d like to see but unless someone else is paying I’ll have to wait. Since doing business/being taken over by Golden Boy Promotions I just cannot give Affliction money and feel good about myself. Elite is run by boxing promoters and now Affliction is pretty much in the same boat. I HATE BOXING PROMOTERS trying to make money through promoting MMA. They’re poisonous! F’em!

  • surfingk5 said:

    Well said KOuch.
However, in regards to the fight…I hope the Arlovski I used to love to watch shows up. I’ll look forward to READING about the results.

  • RJA said:

I do agree with all of the above, but i have to get it i just can’t help myself. And sam fedor has never looked in great shape. Some fighters just don’t have the fortunate genetics to have six packs fedor/lidell/nelson lol.

  • RJA said:

Hey KOuch, you’d probally get it if shields was on the card.

  • kouch said:

Nah…..Shields is a fighter I like a lot. I go to the extreme and exagerate how much I like him……I’m still the driver of the Jake Shields band wagon though. I will NOT order any Affliction ANYTHING! Unless midgets are on the card of course……

genetics is part of it but I used to roll with big country 4 or 5 days a week and he smelled like hamburger helper, lol.

I don’t like GoldenBoy being involved either kinda leaves a bad taste on things… AA v Fedor that is a wonderful fight for both of them.. More of a oppritunity for Fedor to “silence” his critics and for AA to possibly upset the greatest HW of all time, is it a desprite move by Affliction perhaps but a good move non the less… I wanted to see Barnett v Fedor but this is almost as good IF the card actually materializes… The Ultimate Grappling article with Fedor I wasn’t too impressed with I read it on one of my flights and it did nothing for me personally, cheers

  • aznstar_inc said:

why would anyone pay for that fight? Boxing scum aside, its not like we dont know whos gonna win that fight. it will look like every other fight Fedor is in, style wise its a terrible matchup. Andrei is a stand up striker but Fedor is a better striker, save your cash it wont get out of the 1st.

  • surfingk5 said:

    midget mma…I see new frontiers

  • RJA said:

Wow!aznstar boxing scum little harsh, but i respect your opinion so i won’t get it because i don’t want to be scum. And sam i commend you on your bravery, for i would have blown chunk on him while rolling.

    Surfing,

Finally someone with a brain sees my point. Noone understood me with midget/dwarf MMA before you came alone Surfing. Everyone laughed at me and thought it was a joke. My dream was humor. Now they will see! The Dana White of midget MMA has been born. I just don’t know when he’ll put together an event.

  • RJA said:

I think this midget thing is becoming some kind of sick obsession for you KOuch. But if you want to send me some midget pics we can run through some ideas.

  • RJA said:

I’m pretty sure were way off topic.

  • gunslinger said:

i dont think midget mma would work you wouldnt be able to keep paying for the events to go on because the revenue the shows would bring in would be “short”……unless some how the gray maynard of midgets is found then im all in

  • RJA said:

good 1 gunslinger took me a second.

  • fr702 said:

While in Chicago I saw WeeMan, found a bar that has “short people” saturdays, and when I go to Pittsburgh they too have “Midget” mondays, and damnit KOuch I gots a brain too hey u still down with Nov 21st?
O and KOuch just to spite u I will order the Affliction card hahahaha cheers

  • justin said:

I won’t bother buying the Affliction card for three reasons, 1. I don’t want to support them 2. I’m not sure that it would be worth paying for 3. I will be able to find videos of the fights on the internet within minutes of them happening for free.

I do however pay for the UFC because I want to support them, and I think they’re worth paying for.

  • aznstar_inc said:

Im with you Justin. but lets face it we all know im a UFC homer. its funny cause that 1 minute TKO win for fedor will be on Youtube 5 minutes after the fight anyway, so even if Drei manages a miracle i can still catch the win.

as for midget MMA i think it does have a future. you gotta figure that PPV’s will be half price…haha get it. yea i know its a bad joke just like affliction, but i felt it needed to be said.

  • sam said:

They did a midget thing at one of the first ultimate fight nights at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas. It was Chuck Littel vs. Tiny Ortiz. I was pretty drunk but it was super funny.

  • RyanMoney said:

    Well said Justin

I think Arlovski will bring his A game to this fight. He knows what is at stake. This will be a war. I give it even odds but think Arlovski will prevail in the end. My prediction is for a k/o of Fedor due to head kick.

  • Josh V said:

Fedor has always been a silent, what-you-see-is-what-you-get fighter. Arlovski got rocked by Big Country, eh, maybe once. Even though Fedor doesn’t look the part, don’t expect him to gas. I say that because I hope Arlovski MOVES HIS HEAD WHEN HE PUNCHES! If Arlovski is going to win this fight, he needs to utilitze his quickness. Leg kicks early, short jabs and USE DISTANCE! Don’t get into the clinch with him, stand and box with him. If it goes to the ground…..just give up.

  • fr702 said:

pmccue putting head kick ko for AA outthere, nicely done also even odds, but I would go (if iwere picking AA) with a tiny little cut over the right eyebrow for the win…

  • M3 said:

lol it would hafe to be one hell of a war to see AA pull of a win here.
yes if he uses his distance he could be affective for a bit but then fador will change his fighting style like he does in he longer fights that’s why he dangerous it because hes not just the same style he changes to confuse his opponents they train for stand up he switch’s to judo it goes to the ground hes switch’s to Sambo starts to work them out if they escape they go back use he styles now boxing, but he keep switch over and over its hard to train for some one like that.
Andrei Arlovski is not going to come out of this on top hes going down lol we have all seen his questionable chin

  • fr702 said:

O I think Fedor will win is it going to be like when he fought Timmeehhh no but I do think Fedor work his ground game for the win.. If AA creates distance Fedor will close the gap definately.. This isn’t a boxing match it is MMA and the king of MMA in the HW division is Fedor, I don’t see AA taking that ugly ass belt anytime soon…

  • Gonzo said:

I think this is a great headliner for Day of Reckoning. I wasn’t going to PPV the October event, but this one is shaping up nicely. I believe Andre will be Fedor’s biggest competition since Nogueira, when it was a NC at PRIDE Shockwave 2004, which could have gone Noguiera’s way.

I’d still like them to do a Gran Prix. Obviously, they can get DREAM, Elite XC, Strikeforce, and old IFL fighters.

UFC, still remains supreme, but the competition is great for the sport.

  • JOHNBOY said:

i will be rooting for AA but i think fedor will be to strong for him, i hope randy wins also then it makes a fedor vs randy a must!

  • Dannyboy said:

You poor sad little men. Missing a great card out of principle. I think I will do the same for the UFC and download their next event. Take that in the wallet Dana “I’m not gonna kick you off cause I know ratings will be better if I don’t.” White!

    :)

I jest of course…I download all of them. hah! j/k Affliction will get my money for any Fedor fight, period.

  • surfingk5 said:

KOuch, I think a simple business plan of how to integrate midgets into mma as they have with women will be sufficient. Let me know your thoughts and we can start to put it together. I’m sure once we speak with Dana (fist name basis) he will completely understand and be ready to take the next major step in mma…MIDGET MMA

It’s all about evolving the sport and legitimizing. (is that a word)

  • Spud said:

You guys forget that AA was a Sambo champion at one time, that’s the same stuff Fedor knows. Fedor is still better on the ground. Striking, AA is better, if he can throw a straight right down the middle when Fedor throws one of his looping Chris Leban punches I think he can catch him. AA does have to be careful, because his chin isn’t the best, but I’m just glad it’s not as bad as Jardine’s. If AA can keep it standing and not get caught, I see him winning. I’ll be ordering this PPV, no question.

  • Spud said:

I’m all for midgets fighting too!

  • surfingk5 said:

Chuck Littel vs. Tiny Ortiz…I think that’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. I piddled a bit in my shorts.

KRIS…looks like I’m having problems with my little picture thing. It was working. Same with a couple of posts not showing up. Unless I’m being reprimanded for something!
