KJ Noons Declares Himself a Free Agent
Former EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons, who was stripped of the 160-pound title late last month for refusing to fight top contender Nick Diaz, has declared himself as a free agent in a recent interview with MMA Weekly .
“So they stripped me Friday, and they told me I had a deadline Monday, so I went up there and talked to them for a few days and we negotiated. We worked out a lot of things, about them stripping me, and what was kind of going on and tried to work it out, make the fight happen. So pretty much it was at a standstill, nothing really came out of it, but they know where I’m at and I know where they’re at,” said Noons. “Stripping me of my title makes me a free agent. They can say however much that I owe them the fights. I owe them championship fights as the champion. They stripped me, which doesn’t make me the champion, so I don’t owe them anything.”
A new EliteXC lightweight champion will be crowned on November 8th when top contenders Nick Diaz and Eddie Alvarez clash for the title in the co-main event of EliteXC “A Night of Champions” in Reno, Nevada.

Noone wants you Noons. You may have been something in EliteXC but you’d get your ass whooped in the UFC.
as far as i can see, he shut Diaz up the first time. he didnt need to fight him again so soon…when was Diaz going to prove himself? he may not be the same fighter in the UFC, but if you’re not KJ Noons, and you’re not the one in discussions, then nobody really knows what the true story is…

You were stripped of your title for not acting like a champion. You refused a fight. You act as if Elite screwed you. You did not deserve your title because you were not willing to fight for it leaving you a weak reputation. If you are not strong enough to hold onto your possessions they are not yours to keep and you do not deserve them. You just don’t get it. You’re the fighter and I am the fan. I know how I feel about you now……wonder if the feeling is mutual amongst many other fans??? Idiot!
In another report, Noons alleges that his dispute was not over fighting Diaz, but over how much he and Diaz were getting paid for the fight. Noons wanted more money ProElite did not want to give it to him. That report also stated that Noons was going to go boxing for a while… whatever the real truth is about this whole deal, what’s been put out there does not bode well for his future as an MMA fighter, and it is doubtful that the UFC will come calling, maybe one of the other organizations would be interested.
Seemore, how did he shut him up? He had a cut that he could have continued to fight with. I for one, would have liked to see a 2nd fight.

JustJoe…the fight was stopped…Diaz was cut…how did he get cut? and cut so bad??? because his skills didnt stop the punches. lots of fighters can go on after they get cut, but thats neither here nor there. Noons won, Diaz lost. if Diaz et al. would just walk, and not talk, then he’d have gotten his rematch, or whatever was to come. then he could attempt to redeem himself…but in true diaz fashion, he made himself look like more the fool.

Rumor was that he wanted more money to fight but he had only beaten one contender in Diaz, all be it a disqualification. Does that constitute more money? I don’t think so but I’m not a fighter so I don’t know but I would assume that once he won more quality fights, he would get paid. I personally think KJ has to build up his resume first before getting the big bucks. I think he should fight in Dream, Sengoku, even Strikeforce against some quality contenders, build up his resume, then he’ll get the money he thinks he deserves.

I would like to see KJ in the mix at 155 as he could have some wars with the likes of Griffin, Guida, Huerta & Florian and maybe even BJ if he can get the former names i mentioned.
Just to clarify something. I don’t think the UFC would be uninterested in KJ because of his skills. I think that the fact that he got stripped of a belt for not taking a fight, for whatever reason it was that he didn’t take the fight, will make the UFC not interested. He may be a UFC caliber fighter, but if he’s not willingly to play by the rules, I don’t know that they’ll want him. Besides that he said he wants to be a two sport athlete, MMA and Boxing, I don’t think the UFCs exclusivity cause would allow that.
lol Gun…you remember when noons got KTFO’d by Crazyhorse Bennett? Neither does KJ cuz he probably lost that and the four previous months worth of memories after that fight.
Noons won via horrible doctor stoppage. Blood wasn’t affecting his vision and it wasn’t bleeding that bad. Rich Franklins eye in the Hamill fight was way worse and the doc let him go. So no KJ doesn’t have the right to say I beat that guy so I don’t have to fight him again. Anderson beat the crap out of Franklin and still took the rematch IN RICH’S BACKYARD no less. So for KJ to whine and cry about the fight is BS. I did read how he was upset over Diaz getting paid more, you know how you fix that? be a great champ pay your do’s and earn that check. Diaz has been around for forever and is a known fighter, that’s why he makes more than you…he is a name. No one knew who you were, so that’s why you earn less. A real champ beats whoever the org puts in front of them, plain and simple. No champ in the UFC turns a fight down.

Noons is solid and definitely a UFC caliber fighter but I don’t think he’s anywhere near UFC champion material yet.
I agree Justin, I don’t think the UFC pursues him at all. Considering all the baggage he would bring, between declining fights and still having fights on his contract, I don’t think he’s talented enough for the UFC to go after him.
Winning by a cut doesn’t mean anything. Diaz arguably was winning that fight with 2 take downs in the first round. Yeah, the cuts were bad, but it’s not like he was on the vegre of getting ko’d or submitted. It was just unfortunate, and a rematch is deserved.
Well, now Diaz gets to STILL not get the belt when Alvarez takes him apart. Poor EXC. They’re gonna have to bribe Alvarez to not throw any punches so that Diaz can be their champ.

So you’re a fan of seeing fights stopped because of cuts? I’m not a huge fan of either guy honestly, but I do like the match up. It was a pretty exciting fight up until the cuts. and I would have liked to see what happened had he not been cut.

I dont understand where all the hatred comes from for Noons, i watched the Diaz fight and Noons was too much for him, period.
Theres no need to see it again, Diaz has bored me lately and he seems to have taken a step back in skills or something.
Id watch Noons fight again, i like good stand up fighters with good striking and sprawl like he has, i dont blame him for wanting to get out of Elitexc, i hope UFC picks him up.
Mike W. its not that people hate noons as a fighter. its the fact that no one respects him for not taking the fight. as a real champ you take on whoever the org deems worthy. they built up a fight that could showcase you as a headliner and make you into a star. as of right now yes KJ won, but their is always a asterisk next to it. you come through and beat Diaz again by KO or decision and no one talks about it. he ruined a chance for the big time and a big payday. instead the UFC is dead to him and he isnt gonna get a huge payday from Strikeforce or Dream. his manager is a moron for trying to pull a power move and think they are big time.
Maybe Noons is all knowing and saw the BS of elite xc. I think it would be good for WEC or UFC to pick him up. Put his money where is mouth is.
There’s no asterisk next to Noons beating Diaz. It was a win, within all the rules of the sport. You want to put an asterisk next to every “stopped by a doctor” loss? Don’t be an idiot. It is a loss. Not a loss*. A loss.
