Florida Opens Preliminary Investigation Into EliteXC Fight Fixing Allegations

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Oct 10, 2008

EliteXC Heat: Kimbo Slice vs. Seth PetruzelliThe Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation — which regulates mixed martial arts contests in the state through the Florida Boxing Commission — has begun a preliminary investigation into numerous allegations that EliteXC has been influencing fights, most notably offering Seth Petruzelli a bonus to stand and trade with Kimbo Slice.

Though Petruzelli ultimately won the bout, keeping the fight standing was seemingly a distinct advantage for the highly-marketed Slice.

Now, according to ESPN.com’s Franklin McNeal, the state has launched an investigation into the allegations:

…the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation — which oversees the State Boxing Commission — said Thursday that it has opened a preliminary investigation into the matter.

“While the Department of Business and Professional Regulation doesn’t have any reason to believe there was a problem with the Slice-Petruzelli fight, given the interest in it, the Department has begun a preliminary investigation to thoroughly review the circumstances of the fight,” said Jennifer Meale, Communications Director for the DBPR.

I am not sure what happens during this type of “investigation” but I would assume questioning Petruzelli, Kimbo and Shamrock several times would be a good start. One of the three is bound to give a statement we could all enjoy and discuss. I said from the start I do not doubt there is corruption in Elite. AGAIN! The Shaw’s have a boxing promotion background. Boxing is the most corrupt sport on the planet. MMA is making money and the Shaw’s saw an opportunity to cash in while not knowing a single thing about MMA. The Shaw’s try to fool the average fan by hyping up Kimbo. Believe it or not, there are people who consider themselves fans of MMA and believe Kimbo is “good/badass/great.” Hold on….I need to vomit! This investigation leaves Elite looking pretty bad. I hope this speeds up the process of Elite going under. I have no problem with other promotions but Elite is corrupt and run by c0ckmongers.

I agree with everything you said KOuch. Just talking to Petruzelli, Shamrock, Kimbo, Shaw, Lappen, and anyone else who was present during the talks is a great start. I’d bet money that there will be a few different stories. The thing is that Petruzelli still won. If he had got beat I think they would’ve been all over this.

  3. Dirty says:

I agree with you guys 100%.

The UFC just keeps looking better and better as time goes on and i’m starting to see why they don’t want to co-promote….why mix up with these trash half a*s promotions ?

  4. regoillin says:

I think they should talk to Thompson, Tank, and Cantrell too. They might find a pattern.

  5. timcat says:

    KOuch = man genius.
I couldn’t have said it better.

  6. Justin says:

I’m glad someone else understands the UFC not co-promoting.

  7. huertarogerhuerta says:

i dont think this is something they can really prove. im sure none of this went on paper or into a contract so its gonna b a lot of he said this and they say that. but even if they cant get anything to stick they still dragged elite xc thru the mud by even having an investigation which is far less then wat these crooks truly deserve

  8. Us And Chuck says:

Shouldn’t they also bring up Bo “KOTC Scrub” Cantrell for questioning that fight a ****ing joke that had to be fixed….

I hope they throw the book at the Shaw’s and revoke their promoting Licenses for both Boxing & MMA i don’t hate Elite they have some talented fighters i really hope CBS buys them as suggested in the past.

  9. surfingk5 says:

Gee, I’m shocked. I can’t believe it. That deserves an “OMG!” My prediction was pretty damn close, just a different fighter. Shamrock’s not injured, he just wouldn’t throw a fight or compromise himself in any way…maybe

  10. gunslinger says:

shamrocks not injured did you see the gash on his head…it is to bad that mma is starting to show signs of cheating and payoffs like boxing….im just glad i would never accept any amount of money to throw a fight…its not worth it im not in the sport to throw fights or make tons of money for no reason…if i wanted to mma to be fake i would be in the wwe not going into mma….i love fighting because it relaxes me and is the only thing ill ever be good at really…..and it makes me so angry that people are already starting to kill mine and milions others dreams already in this young sport…if elite xc does end up getting revealed as paying off there fights then i will never watch an elite xc show ever

  11. surfingk5 says:

no i didn’t. i was just being a jerk and jumping on the slam the elite xc band wagon. i play the drums.

nothing would suprise me these days. money talks and if everyone has their price…everyone

  12. dbiz says:

His mistake was going to the ER to get stitched. I suspect he did that rather than have someone else do it because he couldn’t throw the fight.

It isn’t like he was trying to save his good looks.

  13. gunslinger says:

surkingk5 not everyone has a price ..there isnt enough money in the world that would force me to throw a fight….there isnt enough money in the world that would make me throw the fight…i dont fight for money….in my trainers first fight you know how much he made 50$…ya 50 bucks……and he trained just as hard as any pro mma fightert who make thousands…..but he didnt care about the money because we like to fight i could care less if i was rich…id rather have a subaru impreza than any expensive sports car…but for real some people dont have a price…id rather get paid 50$ for really fighting than get 1000$ for faking a fight

  14. dbiz says:

Gun, I wanna see your next fight. Keep us informed when/where.

  15. surfingk5 says:

@ Gun…I respect your integrity. I suppose it’s an unreasonable thought though. In reality the majority of us will never have to face that decision. I however am a hooker and have a price…
