Jesse Taylor Upsets Drew Fickett at Total Combat “Notorious”

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Oct 3, 2008

Jesse TaylorIn front of a sold out crowd of 2,800 fans at the Sycuan Resort & Casino in San Diego, California, Ultimate Fighter 7 cast member Jesse Taylor upset fellow UFC veteran Drew Fickett via first-round TKO in the main event of Total Combat “Notorious”.

The win improved Taylor’s professional record to 7-3 while the loss dropped Fickett to 35-7.

Taylor had Fickett on his heels early then secured a quick takedown. On the ground, Taylor connected with heavy shots to Fickett’s head, one of which opened a two-inch gash on his forehead just above his right eye. Though Fickett tried to block the assault, Taylor continued the ground and pound barrage to force the referee to halt the bout at the 1:42 mark of the first round awarding Taylor the victory via TKO.

“We saw a great and unique vibe today,” said Scott Woodworth, president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions, which promoted the event. “The fans loved the fights. The energy was out of this world. It’s was raw, intense and powerful. It was fun to sit back and observe the excitement as a fan and as a promoter. We sold every seat in the house. We were turning people away at the box office. I can say that future MMA shows are in the works here at Sycuan. We now have a successful model to build from.”

In the night’s other featured bout Ian McCall of Laguna Nigel, Calif. won a unanimous decision against San Diego-native Kevin Dunsmoor in a three round bantamweight bout.

Jesse Taylor is a beast and could of been developed into a great UFC fighter. We may see him back in the UFC. I believe that illegal knee won CB the fight against Taylor. Gratz to Taylor and hopefully if he can keep his personal life straight he can keep going places as a professional too.

  2. yzfoxracing says:

I DISAGREE. HES THE MOST BORING FIGHTER THATS CAME OUT OF TUF… HES WORSE THEN JOSH KOS. IM GLAD HIS DUMB A$$ IS OUT OF THE UFC…

  3. Cole Miller says:

    Yup hes a d-bag…typical “bro” and a boring fighter…

  4. sp00ner1234 says:

Jesse Taylor is a hack and shouldn’t be in the UFC or any other fighting organization. The only thing I will say in the retards (and I do apologize to mentally challenged people everywhere, as considering JT a retard is actually demeaning to you guys) defense is that i often wonder if it is a little suspicious that in all the videos of Jesse trashing the hotels and getting in trouble in Vegas there is CB in the background. Que bono? CB Dolloway thats who! So basically all I am saying is JT half dollar sign is a useless meat head… Houston Alexander wins sometimes too doesn’t he?

  5. cldbar says:

even if koscheck and taylor were entertaining fighters, i still wouldn’t watch them. complete tools…

  6. Gonzo says:

    spooner,

So Taylor should just give up on goals. Nice advice.

I hope he continues fighting and gets in Elite XC or Affliction. He was the most entertaing person of TUF 7. He shouls stay away from UFC, they screwed him.

  7. dude, Kos is an amazing fighter. Seriously he has 2 losses in the UFC and 1 is the GSP who is the most dominant guy in the 170lb devision, the other loss was to Ficket over a crap stand up at the tail end of a fight that led to a bad move on his part and a knee to the face. But seriuosly Kos is a really good fighter.

That being said Jesse is a beast and a good fighter but totally one dimentional. Ficket isn’t a good striker and thats why he was able to get pounded on. Jesse needs to up his all around game a lot.

  8. mikew says:

Im surprised he beat Drew but i think ground and pound is the only thing Jesse does well, he’s a boring one dimensional guy at this point with great potential for an average career.

  9. mac s says:

The reason JT is not in the ufc anymore is because of what he said about rampage. he came back from teh booze then said that there is a definate double standard and sme other bullsh*t. guy is a total
    d-bag.

  10. tollfinder says:

i agree with most that taylor is a peice and doesn’t belong in the ufc that is not saying that he won’t get passed his meathead mouth breathing and learn that mma is more than “ground and lay on top”

  11. dbiz says:

mac, you have to admit he has a point. He got tossed for being reckless (not driving) when drunk. Rampage got coddled for driving a massive truck with a picture of himself on the side (total d-bag move. seriously.) and being reckless, including multiple sideswipes, blowing through stop sticks, etc.

Yes, Rampage has done more and he supposedly had “medical” reasons…like he’s nuts and stopped eating. Still, had anyone else done what Rampage did, they would have been gone.

Am I upset that he isn’t here? Nope. Did they use a bs cop out to get rid of him? Absolutely.

  12. SAM Bronx, NY says:

The more talented guys always get a pass (Rampage), that is the way of the world, grow up. Not saying it is right, but that is how it is and will always be.

Mikew says of Taylor “he’s a boring one dimensional guy at this point with great potential for an average career.” That is such a funny statement. When someone says that about you, you should quit whatever you are doing and try something else.

  13. scott says:

Taylor won the fight because of the weight difference. Taylor usually fights at 185, and is powerful at that weight. They fought at catch weight 175. Drew fights at about 170, and it isn’t all muscle. He was basically fighting a way bigger fighter. If Taylor and Kos rolled, Taylor would punk Kos all night becuase of the size difference, and Kos punked Drew on the mat. Simply put, this was a bad match-up and Drew wasn’t thining straight to take this fight (size difference). Peace out!
