Nogueira vs. Mir, Griffin vs. Evans, Jackson vs. Silva Set For UFC 92

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Oct 2, 2008

Antonio Rodrigo NogueiraJust one day after announcing Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Mark Coleman for UFC 93 in January UFC president Dana White has confirmed three key matches for UFC 92 with Yahoo! Sports.

In the UFC 92 co-main events UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will battle fellow TUF 8 coach and former heavyweight champion Frank Mir and UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin will look to defend the 205-pound title for the first time against top-contender Rashad Evans. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will take on Wanderlei Silva, who twice defeated Jackson during their days in PRIDE, in a featured light heavyweight matchup.

The stacked New Year’s Eve weekend event, traditionally the company’s biggest event of the year, takes place on December 27th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. UFC 92 will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.

It’s not that i don’t like nogueira or mir.But there’s just something about that fight that doesn’t interest me.I can’t quite pin point it.But i am definetly looking foward to the card, hope wandi and forrest kick ass.

  2. yzfoxracing says:

MOTHERS FATHERS SONS DAUGHTER WATCH OUT FOR JACKSON WHEN HE LOSES… HE’LL BE GOING ON A TRUE RAMPAGE AND KNOW WHAT IT REALLY MEANS…

  3. Us and Chuck says:

**** yeah and thank every mother****er who put this together.

    Looks a great card

I’m going with Nog by TKO in the 1st
    Griffin via a UD
And Silva Ko’n Rampage again in the 2nd

  4. Dirty says:

We’ve already seen what Rampage can do in the Octagon, he’s proven to have what it takes to legitimately be a top contender and champion in the 205 division but Wand 1-3 in his last 4 fights and Jardine truly believes he got caught and 9 out of 10 times his style beats Wanderleis, , in my opinion this fight will let us know if Wanderlei still has it or is he on the same shelf as Hughes, Liddell and Cro Cop ?

Mirs a ” know it all ” and talks way too much sometimes……

I don’t see Rashad beating Forrest. Forrest will frustrate him and wear him down into the 4 and 5 round territory that Rashad has never been before.

  5. rutdog says:

Griffin’s leg kicks will win the fight

  6. RJA says:

It may just be the fan in me .But i don’t see chuck the same as i see hughes. He still has the ability to level anyone in the division.Where as hughes only great strength was his strength.GSP,KOS,FITCH all stronger.I beleive lidell needs to take a different approach.I know he’s not the fighter he once was i just think he’s got a little bit more to offer than hughes. And don’t foget how well he looked against wandi,it wasn’t THAT long ago.He needs to realize he’s in there with a differnt breed of fighters.

  7. mburtoni says:

What makes the Mir-Big Nog fight so uninteresting are both fighters’ records and the competition they’ve faced. The only reason Mir is currently in the running is because of his submission win over Lesnar. Before the Lesnar fight (and after the motorcycle accident) Mir was 2-2 in the UFC, losing to Marcio Cruz (!!!) and Brandon Vera. Aside from Tim Sylvia, Vera, Lesnar, and Ian Freeman (who knocked Mir out) Mir has not really faced much top competition (and many would argue that Lesnar does not fit into the category of “top competition.”) Big Nog, on the other hand, was over in Japan, fighting the best fighters in the world while Mir was in the UFC. Big Nog has a win over every man he has ever faced except Fedor; he has beaten Barnett, Cro Cop, Hendo, Herring (3 times), Kharitonav, Werdum, Ricco Rodriguez, Coleman, Overeem and many, many others. Big Nog’s Jiu Jtsu is superior to Mirs’ and look for Big Nog to end this by way of sub in the ate first or early 2nd.

  8. UK_Chris says:

    Wicked card.

  9. johnboy says:

mir n nog also doesn’t intrest me, there fighting for an fake belt ramdy is the champ not nog, that interim belt is bull shiit, nog should do what GSP did and discard the belt, im sure he will get the winner or randy an lesnar if he beats mir, which i think he will but would rather mir win.

i think forrest is guna beat rashard down an pick up a decision prob 50-45 all across the board. jackson vs silva is guna be sick i think its guna end 1st round via knock out in favour of rampage.

also dirty chuck is not washed up he kicked wandi ass then got caught by evens in a fight i would say he was winning, until evens pulled a knock out of the year out!

  10. Justin says:

    JOHNBOY,
It has already been stated that the winner between Couture and Lesnar will face the winner between Nog and Mir. Dana has also called this a “tournament” to determine the HW champion.

  11. johnboy says:

cheers justin didn’t no that was for sure, i kinda figered that was guna happen tho.

  12. yzfoxracing says:

I THINK WE ALL LEARNED OUR LESSON ABOUT UNDERESTIMATING RASHAD. SO IM NOT GONNA SAY FORREST IS GONNA WALK THROUGH HIM BUT I DO SEE FORREST WINNING.

WHY DOES EVERYONE ONE SAY CHUCK IS WASHED UP. PEOPLE GET CAUGHT IT JUST HAPPENS. I DON’T THINK CHUCK IS DONE I THINK HE STILL HAS A COUPLE OF YEARS.

  13. huertarogerhuerta says:

    mir tko rd 3
    rashad tko rd 1*
    rampage UD
now i put an asterisk next to rashad cuz its a fact forrest needs a round or 2 to get going so if rashad cant ko him in the first ill take rashad UD. now as for chuck hes not washed up cuz hes still good at wat he does i will say that his jaw is made out glass. as for mir vs big nog bein uninterestin i disagree. mir went 2-2 afta the accident cuz he was out of shape and really fat. now he looks good and im interested in seein if he can get back on track. as for minatauro he gets his ass handed to him every fight ive ever seen him in and wins thats interestin to me atleast. rampage vs wandy i think will b lackin the fireworks that the first 2 fights had. rampage doesnt want to lose a 3rd time and i see wandy using more of a counterin style like he did against chuck

  14. Jazzkok says:

This card is gonna kick ass dude!

nog vs mir- NOG BY TKO

    griffin vs evans-GRIFFIN BU UD

    rampage vs wanderlei=SILVA BY KO

MO ONE CARES FOR NOG VS MIR ANYMORE CUZ IT KINDA DOESNT MATTER NOT THE COUTURES BACK. HE’S THE REAL CHAMP AND THE WINNER OF THIS FIGHT IS FIGHTING FOR THE #1 CONTENDER SPOT TO FACE THE WINNER OF BROCK VS RANDY CUZ THAT WINNER IS THE TRUE HW CHAMP. HOPE LESNAR BEATS COUTURES OLD, PREMADDONNA ASS

  15. Jazzkok says:

    *NO

  16. Jazzkok says:

    *NOW

  17. mikew says:

I think Evans will beat Forrest, ive never liked the guy too much but he finds a way to win and seizes opportunities when they present themselves.I thought Chuck would kill Evans.
I like Forrest but he lacks power which he makes up for in heart, i still think in the last 2 Forrest fights he has faced guys who were not at the top of their game and against other top 5 like Wandi he would get destroyed, Forrest has had a fairly easy clear path to the belt.

  18. Justin says:

Forrest’s main weakness is that lack of power. If he had that power, that we’ve seen from Evans, Liddell, Wandi, and Rampage to, to finish guys with one punch, I think we would be talking about how we think he could hold the belt for a while. That lack of finishing ability really limits expectations with Forrest.

  19. Segablack says:

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will Kill mir easily anyone who thinks frank mir stands a chance in this fight does not know Nogueira’s fight record nog has the best chin in the sport never been k.o not even when he fought the legend Fedor, hes only lost by split Decision or when lol unanimous when fighting fedor but that just because well its Fedor…
but while i do like mir and think hes a great fighter but come on, i cant see him o.k or putting a Submission on nog. hes number 2 for a reason.

  20. johnboy says:

i think forrest will hold the belt until he comes up against rampage again, i think he will be to big for wandi and to in your face for machida to handle, t-silva an forrest would be intresting but ide giva the egde to forrest, but i belive rampage will knock forrest out when they meet again, also ide love to see rampage vs anderson silva but first things first haha

  21. Dirty says:

Ya I agree about Chuck, he did beat Wandy and was beating Rashad so I guess you can’t place him in that category just yet, plus Jardine was very close. He’s still very competitive in a crazy division.

I would like to see Randy vs Nogueira in the tournament final.

Man …. the road to that Fedor fight just keeps looking further and further away for Randy….

  22. huertarogerhuerta says:

nogs does not have the best chin. nogs may have never had a fight stopped due to a knock out but herring put him on his ass. if herring doesnt make him stand up he finishs big nogs in round 1. tim sylvia the doofiest piece of excriment walkin the earth put him on his ass. my point is it seems in every fight he gets knocked down and out but has an amazing recovery time

  23. JustJoe says:

I’m going with Nog, and 2 upsets. Rampage and Rashad.

  24. ALL_VICTIM says:

    nice card

  25. gunslinger says:

RASHAD WILL WIN AND WIN TE TITLE…REMEMBER MY WORDS

ALSO NOG WILL DESTROY MIR VERY EASILY

WANDI WILL DESTROY RAMPAGE SADLY IN THE SECONG, I HATE TO SEE EITHER OF THESE GUYS LOSE BUT ITS GONNA GO BAD FOR RAMPAGE THAT NIGHT…UNLESS WOLFSLAIR BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN RAMPAGE…U NEVER KNOW!

  26. JC Champagne says:

@ gunslinger, did u ever end up picking a song for your entrance?

  27. I took care of Frosty…

  28. huertarogerhuerta says:

kris flexin his administrative muscles lol but seriously thanx i wasnt involved in the tiff that was goin on but its annoyin.

  29. Fr702 says:

Hells ya, this is a very exciting card imo, Big Nog agurablly the best HW ever (not named Fedor) v Frank Mir (former UFC HW champ)
Both have great “come back from tragedy” stories… Most know of Mir’s motorcycle accident and whatnot and how devistating that was to him mentally physically emotionally damn near ruined his carrer when he was atop the moutain… Big Nog was run over by a car in his youth crush his liver broke his ribs cracked his spine doctors didn’t know if he would walk let alone be productive in society… Great great back stories of personal triumph

Forrest v Rashad~ two TUF winners facing off for the LHW title.. That perhaps is Dana’s wet dream right there…

Wanderlei v Rampage~ Jackson is trying to get redemption for have his asss whupped by Wanderlei twice

This card is starting off rather nicely I’m excited

  30. Yeah, I generally try to handle things as quick as I can. It’s unfortunate people feel the need to do that kind of stuff but it’s what happens especially as sites grow and welcome new members, not all of them can be good.

When the new changes roll out over the weekend there will be some things included to help better prevent these situations from happening as frequently.
