Jason MacDonald Inks New Four-Fight Deal With UFC
By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Sep 21, 2008
Middleweight Jason MacDonald (21-10) has inked a new four-fight contract with the UFC.
KO Dynasty, which represents MacDonald, informed MMAJunkie.com of the new deal on Friday.
Terms of the new contract were not released.
After back-to-back “Submission of the Night” victories over Ed Herman and Chris Leben, MacDonald suffered his first UFC defeat at the hands of Rich Franklin in early-2007. MacDonald has since alternated wins and losses, losing to Yushin Okami and Demian Maia while earning victories over Rory Singer, Joe Doerksen, and, most-recently at UFC 88, Jason Lambert.

I like McDonald but see him as nothing more than a gatekeeper for new comers/up and comers to prove themselves against. Maybe he will get a win streak going…..If he doesn’t go 3-1 in his next four fights I see hime being cut.
KOuch, while he may be a gatekeeper, he’s rarely in a boring fight (he’s had 1 decision in his last 10 fights). He’s solid competition.
No doubt…. I love watching his fights. I am just saying that he is not a contender in his division and unless he makes himself a contender in his next four fights he is likely gone. 3 wins is te magic number. Part of Arlovski’s problem in negotiations and getting resigned was his 2-2 record.
Sure, he probably wont be anything but a gatekeeper but he sure as hell is a good one…
I like it! JM is a quality competitor and hopefully his skill range will work itself up to that which will allow him a potential belt shot in the future, but that’s doubtful.
Jason is a good guy and deserves this coming off his best effort yet, 2 fights within 1 month in the UFC, i’d say he’s game.
This is good news and well deserving. McDonald always puts on a great fight. Well done pal!
a well deserved signing to say the least. MacDonald doesn’t shirk a fight, and is in game shape every time…these are the types of fighters that make MMA. as far as gatekeeper goes, that would make 90% of all fighters gatekeepers then?? name a fighter who isnt, besides Couture, Liddell, GSP, etc?? he’s solid on the ground (proven)and upping is stand up game. he’s also level headed, well spoken, and does not puke the hype fodder. glad to see him stay on…
nicely said seemore i totaly agree. and seeing as how their feeding silva every fighter, if he gets a win streek going he could get a shot. Maybe.
good fighter, but has to pick it up a notch and beat some big names or else hes gonna end up just floating around and not becoming a top 5 contender
Great submission fighter who really gives it his all when in the cage. I like him and wish him the best.
Strong fighter but needs the highlight win fight in order to change his career for the better.
Glad to hear it. I always enjoy watching his fights. Goes full throttle. Does anyone know who Maia will fight next - he looked outstanding in their match. Also, how much is the contract worth?
just my opinion but… Who says if your not “top 10 or 5″ in your weight class then your not good e-nuff i think a lot of guys just like to fight at the best level they can! i don’t think there is ANYTHING wrong with being a gate keeper unless your a mark ass buster like Karo “**** made” Paresian!
Semoore,
a gate keeper is someone who has fought top Competition and lost and can not seem to make it back or has always almost made it but never did i don’t feel there are many gate keepers in the UFC… Defiantly not 90%??????
(Lidelle is my favorite fighter to watch and when he losses it is like watching my best friend loss but he is a gate keeper now! hopefully not for long!)
Good stuff for MacDonald. An entertaining fighter to say the least.
KOuch,
In regards to Arlovski, I’m sure his 2-2 record was part of the problem. The other part of the problem was after his utterly boring win where he got booed he stated that he would take a boring win, over an exciting loss anyday. That was a fight he could have finished, if he had tried, but instead he made sure he was ahead on the scorecard and didn’t take any chances. The UFC wants guys that put on a show, not guys that go out and fight boring fights not to lose. Granted you do have to win some, but if he were 2-2 and put on a show vs 2-2 and boring, they would be more inclined to sign/give him more money.
Karo ” don’t you know who I am” Paresian. I still laugh my A$$ off over that.
Very true.
I think this is great. Jason is the kind of fighter that Dana porbably loves. He comes to fight every single time they lock him in the octagon. He may not win everytime, but you really have to beat him to win, and you had better bring your “A” game when you do fight him. His turn around to fight in just about a month from losing to Maia was ballsy and was what Dana is always talking about. He may never be a champion in the UFC but he will be around all the time. He will probably make a career out of being a good enough fighter to always be around. He will be like David Wells, not a hall of famer, but always there and always respected.
I like the guy. He is a modele for Canadian fighters and if he keep working on his weakness we could see him fight top contenders for a long time.
DAN HENDERSON/MICHAEL BISPING TO BE TUF COACHES….
JM is a good fighter that is still evolving, I think he puts on a great show every time for sure. The problem is the MW division is being dominated and so when you see a fighter get a few wins in a row it really doesn’t get you that excited because you know they have to on day face Anderson Silva, and until he starts to show kinks in his armor then thats how we’ll always feel.
windmiller…is that what the definition of a gatekeeper is?? ok….thanks…keep eating those retard sandwiches…sorry to hear about your ‘friend’ Liddell…maybe when Rip van Winkle wakes up, the two of you can skip through fields of daisies while he tries to remember which town he got knocked out in this time.
Good news
