HDNet Fights and Affliction Entertainment on Wednesday officially announced a long-term partnership to air the first ninety minuet of Affliction events high definition network as a lead-in to the promotion’s pay-per-view card.
The deal will begin with Affliction “Day of Reckoning” on October 11th, which will air on HDNet beginning at 7:30pm ET.
“This is the beginning of a long-term partnership with Affliction that encompasses live MMA, co-marketing and top fighters for the top weekly show in MMA - Inside MMA on HDNet,†said Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights, in the announcement. “Affliction has quickly become one of the top organizations in MMA which means it is a must have for HDNet.â€

Affliction and UFC Merger!!! Make it Happen! It makes sense for both organizations, The UFC needs more top heavyweights and Affliction needs everything but Heavyweights. Plus the two could put on the show of the century with Fedor v. Randy!!! Well that’s if Randy beats Brock and then Big Nog. If not I think Brock v. Fedor would be f***in sweet!!!
Now Affliction has Mark Cubans money behind them too, this is big. Good for Affliction, I hope this helps them.
screw affliction the only fighter they have is fedor…and with out competion for him then the **** is just boring
Beau,
Let me get this straight……
The UFC should merge with Afflcition for their HW division?!? You’re crazy. Both companies have different business models and as of now, Affliction is in the hole a few million with their only hope of recovery being Fedor. Affliction has Fedor/Arlovski or Fedor/Barnett to offer and then what? Why should the UFC take care of Affliction? Are you aware of the relationship and how Affliction went about starting their company up in a very offensive manner to the UFC and Elite? It would be the luckiest day in the existance of Affliction if the UFC decided to merge/take Affliction under their wing. Merger….NO WAY. BUY OUT….. Possibly. Affliction fighters going to the UFC to prove themselves against better competition and the eventual raise in UFC fighter salary……Highly likely.
Spud,
Affliction does not have Mark Cuban. They have Mark Cuba’s service to provide a pretty picture on our TVs. Even the Donald is just a name. He put money in but that is IT! He has no clue what is going on. Cubanand The Donald are investers not promoter. Affliction is using the Donald’s name to make people see the matter exactly how most people are.
“OH MY GOD!!! The Donald and Cuban are filthy f-n rich. How could a promotion fail? Fighters are going to get paid better. The UFC is greedy, shady and unfair to fighters. WAHHHHH!!! F DANA!…..BLAH BLAH BLAH…..”
So in conclusion I love tacos but Cuban has little to nothing to do with Affliction…..aside from a pretty televsion picture.
MIKE,
Right ON!! You read my mind.
UFC NAZI FOR LIFE!
KOuch you are so one sided it’s almost pathetic. Instead of giving Affliction credit for signing a deal with HDNet you have nothing but negative things to say about them.
Check your attitude at the door and start rooting for all of MMA for once instead of being UFC only. It’s really sad and really BAD for the fighters.
Good for Affliction on getting this HDNet deal. While HDNet doesn’t have the audience that spikeTV does at least they now have a way to show MMA fans some “free” stuff. Sure HDNet is $5.95/month…but I get 30 other channels in HD for that price which puts my cost for the preview shows & other MMA events on HDNet at around 19 cents a month.
Great job Affliction! If EliteXC doesn’t make it maybe you can snag them up!
Danny,
Attitude? What is Att-i-t-ude? I love MMA. It’s the business side of things I LOVE to be a critic of. All I did was clarify some confusion regarding Mark Cuban. He has nothing to do with Affliction. Other promotions are great….it’s their antics that irk me. The UFC is PERFECTION DANNY!!!! Not really but it is the top promotion out there. Again, the “presentation” of any MMA show is what makes or breaks it as far as my liking goes. Affliction’s first show was rather good. I do not believe they can follow up half as strong on the next two events without Fedor. Affliction is a ONE man (Fedor) promotion for the most part. I bet you my left teste that Affliction gets LESS PPV buys on there second show directly resulting in another financial loss. Most businesses suffer a loss in their first year or two so I am not saying they are doomed….I’m just saying they have a lot of odds to over come. Furthemore, God(Dana White) said Elite and Affliction will not succeed. He’s been right about everything else up to this point. I do not want to be thrown in a firey pit of hell as a sinner so I will obey GOD!(Dana)
UFC NAZI FOR LIFE!
I hope that “inside the MMA” doesnt start becoming a hype show for affliction and they try to keep doing what they are doing, cause i really like the show. But if all of a sudden Anderson silva, BJ Penn, and GSP are replaced on inside the MMA’s P4P ranking by Vitor Belfort, Tim Sylvia, and a ham sandwich then ill really be annoyed… Even though in a fight i have the ham sandwich by TKO over Sylvia.
And lets not go over board with what this can do for the affliction brand. IFL had FSN, Elite has CBS and Showtime backing them, all of which are bigger than spike. and where are they now? (if you got $2 you can buy a share of Pro Elite stock, thats how well they are doping) like ive said before, all that matters in the end is the fights. and right now affliction is running out of match ups. when Tim Sylvia is gonna head line your 3rd card your in a bad way.
KOuch’s sarcasm makes me tingle sometimes…
He is right though. The Donald sent a check to get Affliction going. If their PPV buys decrease for the next couple, it is highly doubtful that he will send many more.
And that is the big problem. Affliction had HUGE paydays for the first one. And they were (rightly perhaps) praised for it. But they can’t keep doing it. And so, with less revenue coming in the investors are going to have to make some tough choices about how long they can go head to head with the 8000 pound gorilla.
Trump claims to love MMA and says he will ride it out. I have my doubts. After all, he loved boxing and look what happened when he did. Downhill fast, loaded with corruption. Is that what we want?
I would much rather have had Cuban jump in with Affliction because he doesn’t look for success first the way Trump does. And lookie there, he’s made more money with fewer busts than Trump.
Ultimately, the Donald is going to be Affliction’s downfall, unless they find a way to keep everything but his checkbook out of it.
why would the UFC merge with affliction? the only fighter they have that is worth anything is fedor, and MAYBE arlovski… the rest of the fighters used to fight in the UFC why would they want them back?
sure it would be nice to see brock go against tim and make tim do the funky chicken on the ground, and it would be even nicer to see fedor fight people of worth rather than people who dont deserve his time…
i think dana is just waiting for fedor to ask for a contract, and when fedor asks for it hes not gonna get a very sweet deal, where as if dana were to offer fedor a deal it would have been better… fedor should have got to the UFC while the getting was good…
Nothing to buy when Affliction folds….Not even a tape library. Crap business model..
KOuch is right about Affliction not having a big enough stable of fighters, but they do co-promote with other promotions. You need to understand that having only ONR promotion, namely the UFC, is BAD for the fans… BAD as in NOT GOOD. A monopoly means they have all the cards. They can do whatever they want to do when they want to do it. If they decided a fighter won’t fight, then he would be out. Which is what they could do to Tito for example, but with other promotions, Tito and the rest of the fighters have barganing power. The more promotions there are, the more fights that we can see. I want to see that diamond in the rough. I want to see fights other than just whatever the UFC would want to show. The UFC is NOT for the fans, it’s for the UFC. Good grief… I need to let this go… I am not a UFC or Dana White fan, I am a MMA fan and I’ll watch it when I can noi matter if dana White has anything to do with it or not… I’m done.
… one more quick thing… I’m also not a fan of Tito Ortiz. He just came to mind while I was preaching… let us pray and pass the collection plate…
Seems like Affliction is grasping at straws here. Can anyone hear that?
It’s taps!!
Affliction just got a big helping hand from Mark Cuban and HDNet Fights. More TV time will really help with their PPV buys. I’m happy about this. More promotions = more choice for the fans.
Affliction in HD! Sweet!
The sad truth to me is that ProElite’s headline stars are Kimbo Slice & Gina Carano. Gina Carano is a big draw no matter where she fights and she’ll stay that way as long as she keeps winning and winning impressively. Kimbo MUST learn how to fight if he expects to stay on the main card. I was not impressed with his performance…
Kimbo Slice… what in the heck is that supposed to mean anyway?… Who willingly allows himself to be called Kimbo? The guy is an enigma…
2 different models show Ike crashing right into southern Palm Beach County or northern Broward county. That would probably spell the end of the WEC fight night in Ft. Lauderdale on Wednesday night. On the bright side, 3 models show it going farther north and 1 model shows it going through Cuba and around Florida while the last model shows it going south through Cuba. Wherever it hits, it’ll hit hard.
There definitely needs to be other promotions. These “other” promotions need to find their own place and not mimic the UFC. The UFC has the majority of top talent leaving it hard for other promotions to be as entertaining and provide quality fights. I love going to local MMA shows…mostly Strikeforce…but more often than not, there are 2-3 fights that are really terrible/lacking in the “talent” area. That is the reason I feel there should be other promotions….to weed out the mediocre and let the best rise to the top/UFC. Yes, I am a UFC NAZI but I have no problem with the existance of other promotions. I want them around…..I just don’t want to keep hearing BS promotions about Affliction putting on the BEST card in history or all the Elite hype with Kimbo. IT’s NONSENSE! Put together quality matches and find your own place in the world of MMA.
KOuch,
Explain to me what great UFC 88 matches I will be missing? UFC is no different than any other promotion. One headliner per card and a bunch of filler, only a more polished hype machine. Fedor vs Arlovski/Barnett is a better heavyweight match than anything the UFC has ever put on.
KOuch,
You my friend are correct sir. Props to ya!
I agree with you in principle, KOuch. I agree that other promotions should find their place, but I don’t agree that the UFC is the only big league in MMA… or that they should be the only big league in MMA. I think if another promotion starts up, then they should operate within their means. They should grow slowly and aquire better talent over time. I really hope that Affliction hangs in there and continues, but they are the epitome of how not to do it… Start out with top talent and try to make it happen… They’re paying out money that they don’t have. A wise man said, “When your OUTgo exceeds your INcome, your UPkeep’s headed for a DOWNturn.”
