By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Sep 3, 2008

Gabriel GonzagaUFC newcomer Josh Hendricks (14-4) will take on Gabriel Gonzaga (9-3) at UFC 91 on November 15th in Las Vegas.

MMA Junkie reported the heavyweight matchup on Tuesday.

Hendricks, a King of the Cage veteran, has not lost in nine-straight bouts. He last defeated James Powell via first-round knockout at Legend of Fighting 21 in November 2007.

Following three-straight UFC victories over Kevin Jordan, Fabiano Scherner, and Carmelo Marrero, Gonzaga posted his biggest win to date, a first-round head kick knockout of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic. The upset victory earned Gonazaga a title shot at UFC 74 in August 2007 against Randy Couture which he lost via third-round TKO. Following a second-straight loss to Fabricio Werdum in January at UFC 80 Gonzaga rebouded with a first-round submission of Justin McCully at UFC 86 in July.

UFC 91, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, features the return of UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture against heavyweight contender Brock Lesner.

  1. dbiz says:

Christ, it looks like November/December is the annual “Let the heavyweights fight” convention….

  2. The Rob says:

yes, and if Affliction folds like Dana promises they will, imagine how good the next couple November/December’s could be…

Gonzaga, Mir, Werdum, Kongo, Herring, Lesnar, Couture …Arlovski, Barnett, Fedor Emilianenko

Not to mention, Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez…

  3. dbiz says:

You assume Fedor would sign with the UFC. I think he’d go back to Japan to fight whatever freaks come crawling out of the woodwork.

If he does sign with the UFC, I say it’s a one fight deal. Randy or nothing.

  4. The Rob says:

I’ve learned to stop doubting Dana White. In fact, I wouldn’t be the slightest bit shocked if Tito Ortiz announced a deal with the UFC.

I’ll bet on Fedor in the UFC. Eventually.

  5. johnboy says:

dana is the f*cking man i never question him or doubt him he always delivers.

this should be a intresting fight i like gonzaga hes a feking beast. i thought he was guna fight lesnar next but this is guna be a good test for him

  6. Dietrich says:

Man. A choice between Nov-Dec card (live) is made that much more difficult.

  7. Rhymeskill15 says:

i like gab…but i would rather see him fight another opponent…he does not have the skill to put on a show alone…he needs another familiar name to fight against in order for me to show interest in his fights…but he is a good fighter…this hw division suddenly became very intense and competitive!

  8. UFC fan says:

omg yes! go gonzaga welcome him to the ufc! i hope gonzaga makes a come back and glad to see him fight again man i think ufc 91 will have th best fights!

  9. UFC fan says:

Gonzaga head kick all the way,

    ufc 91 sounds mad,

all the good fights on it

  11. RJA says:

I’m still hopeing mirco comes back and kicks everybody’s head off.doubtfull

  12. jiujitsuMAN says:

mirko is one of my fav fighters of all time, but i think his reign is over…

much like many of the older fighters there styles have been picked apart for years, and while still deadly they seem to fall victim to rookie mistakes…

i want mirko to come back and fight, but either he realised hes done, or that head kick from gab and the resulting colapsed leg could have ended his fight carrer…

  13. UFC fan says:

i think gonzaga would kick mirkos head off again!!! haha that fight was awesome best head kick KO ever!

  14. ALL_VICTIM says:

Just like Pete Williams head kick :)
    back in the day

    KTFO!!!

  15. Dietrich says:

Napao is very cool…I hope he gets back in the mix soon…

  16. DolfanG says:

When Gonzaga knocked Cro-Cop out, how in the world did Cro-cops leg not get broken or his knee ripped aprt or his ankle? That thing was stuck under him and twisted all the way around backwards!

  17. Dietrich says:

Cro-Cop was a very lucky man that night considering that leg position.

  18. UFC fan says:

i know i thought he was gonna get a serious leg injury maybe even perminet

  19. Dietrich says:

They just re-aired it tonight.Yep its still ugly.
