Tim Sylvia vs. Jerome LeBanner Under Consideration For Affliction 3

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Aug 29, 2008

Tim SylviaFormer UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia may take on K-1 kickboxing standout Jerome LeBanner at Affliction’s third event, which is likely to take place in January or February 2009.

Affliction Vice President Tom Attencio confirmed the possible matchup to MMA News on Wednesday.

“In terms of fighters we are looking at Jerome LeBanner,” said Attencio on Sylvia’s next bout, “he is interested in doing MMA and apparently him and Tim Sylvia have some history between them so that is something that we are looking at right now.”

Sylvia (26-6) has lost back-to-back fights to Antonio Rodrigo Nogeira via third-round submission at UFC 81 in February and Fedor Emelianenko via first-round submission at Affliction’s first event, Banned, in July.

LeBanner (3-1-1) has posted three-straight mixed martial arts victories but has not competed since a March 2006 knockout of Jimmy Ambriz. In kickboxing LeBanner has dropped back-to-back contests to Semmy Schilt, including a late-June decision loss. He holds a 73-15 kickboxing record.

  1. Us And Chuck says:

  2. Rhymeskill15 says:

    he is pathetic!!!!!

  3. Fr702 says:

Timmeehhh v LeBanner I really don’t care for this bout I would much rather see CC v LeBanner

  4. Dietrich says:

Tim needs to disappear for 6 months or so. Go to Brazil and work with Chute Boxe for a while. Retool your game.

  5. esopterodactyl says:

He couldn’t handle working with Chute Boxe…does anyone really wanna see this overgrown freak show fight again…?

  6. jazzkok says:

Tim Sylvia was never good to begin with. He looks like a giant DUMB@$$ when he fights and uses his long @SS arms. He needs to do himself a favor and retire dude

  7. Fr702 says:

Timmeehhhh v Semmy now I would watch that fight, Semmy would destroy Timmeeehhh

  8. Mikew says:

LeBanner is a world class KO expert with power in everything, he would demolish Sylvia and hopefully once and for all retire him back to bouncing at the local saloon of his choice where the fights would be a little closer for him.

  9. gunslinger says:

wow i dislike sylvia as much as the next guy….but come on sylvia isnt that bad and he will knock out lebanner…..sylvia pretty much beat big nog who if you guys dont know is the ufc champ…..and i would love to see anyone of you to say something about him to timmmmah’s face…..just because he looks like an ogre doesnt mean he is bad he is a good fighter and is lets get this straight everyone the #4 or #5 hw in the world…jeeze the fighter bashing is getting outta control

  10. gunslinger says:

ive havent been posting here as much lately ….mostly because of some of these new guys who know nothing about mma and have never watched anything but ufc…..i love this website…its my favorite mma web site but with all the bashing and crap on the comments its becoming sherdog jr.

  11. Fr702 says:

Gun, he isn’t that bad imo I would like to see him and Semmy go at it, Nog is great and he was getting out boxed by Timmeeehhh forsure then o he got choked, the Fedor fight was well 36 seconds, look at Tim’s losses they are to only the top tear fighters in the world, LeBanner isn’t a push over either I just am not too interested in seeing it

*side note* being 6ft 7inches myself I could look Timmmeehhh in the eyes and tell him that I don’t want to see him fight LeBanner, cheers

  12. gunslinger says:

    FR702,

you may be able to look timmahh in the eyes but the last thing youll see is his fist

  13. DolfanG says:

Tim is ackward looking in the ring, but most guys that big will look ackward since they have to bend over to fight a 6 foot guy. Don’t forget the Tim did beat Andre Arlovski. he ain’t no push over unless your name is Feder.

  14. sjava says:

The problem I have with Tim is he looks unmotivated out there. His physique makes him look like he just doesn’t give a **** enough to train hard and his fights kinda look that way.
A 36 sec. loss to Fedor? ****, I won’t hold that against him at all.

And yeah, I’d tell it to him eye-to-eye, I’m 6′8″ and weigh about 20# less *shrug*. If he couldn’t handle the constructive criticism he shouldn’t be in the game.

I *can* sympathize with him looking ackward fighting guys a foot shorter than he is however!

  15. Fr702 says:

    Gun,
    That’s funny thx haha

  16. zac says:

tim sylvia was good when there wasnt anyone worthy to fight him. he sucks. he has no skill. he is a 6′7 tank abbot that isnt entertaining, and doesnt want to fight to end the match, he fights to get a decision. when he cant get a decision, he turtles a’la the Fedor fight.

screw WWE, he needs to join the circus and be the last one out of the clown car.

  17. mikew says:

Hey Gunslinger I just cant see Sylvia beating Le Banner at his own game, the stand up war. For years I have watched Jerome amaze me with his KickBoxing skills in K1 and Tim doesn’t come close in speed accuracy power or experience.
The only big difference is this is MMA and not K1.
The only guy Jerome came up short with twice is Schilt who is pretty much untouchable now.

  18. UFC fan says:

ya i kind of agree silvia isn’t like a top skilled fighter to me hes just a super huge fighter!

  19. DolfanG says:

f you think Tim Sylvia is unskilled at standup and can’t beat Le Banner, you will be surprised. If the fight stays a standup fight, Sylvia’s reach will dominate Le Banner.

  20. UFC fan says:

ya i would bet he wins hes huge like i said he has a huge reach advantage on like almost everyone!!

  21. mikew says:

Sylvia has a reach advantage but he is slow and sloppy and is easy to get inside on. The limited success he had in the past was him keeping guys at his striking range, now he seems to have lost his edge and guys move in on him quick .
Le Banner also has devastating leg kicks and Sylvia has always looked prone to kicks followed by a quick move inside then punches to the head.

  22. UFC fan says:

ya big NOG beat him! he isn;t gonna be a champ anymore to me after his lost to big NOG

  23. del says:

silvia would get owned by lebanner, like cmon, a guy who beat jeff monson by decision against a guy who is a k-1 champion, silvia is headed to elite to become part of the heavyweight washedup freakshow they have going on there, silvia had his moments but he will never, EVER, be a champion ever again, unless he takes up knitting or something like that

  24. travis says:

Hey guys im new here my nane is travis im a big mma fan i think lebanner will kill sylvia because he is a big useless piece

  25. travis says:

lebanner has a chin of steel the only way he loses is if that terd layes on top of him and pulls 1 out. by the way i have bin reading all the stuff u guys have 2 say and it is awesome i have 1 thing 2 say st pierre and silva, anderson that is are my boys anderson will win the light weight title and george will kill pen or who ever else thy put in front of him what do u guys think ?

  26. travis says:

everybody must have heard, chuck vs silva that will be a joke he had better worry about rachad 1ST because i think he has his hands full im excited 2 see what all u guys have 2 say tommorrow i hope to talk to all u guys and a question who is gonna win the ultimate fighter 205 LB i have to go with my boy from winnipeg kristof sysninski……tough name to spell

  27. DolfanG says:

This will be an interesting fight that I expect Tim Silvia to win. Jerome LeBanner has a ton of experience, but of his last 6 fights, he’s 2 and 4. Of his last 9 fights he’s 4 and 5 with 2 of his wins coming against the same guy, Choi Hong Man of South Korea. Along with a ton of experience comes age and cumulative damage. He’s not a young man anymore. Chronologically he’s only 35 years old, but this will be his 100th professional fight if you add his boxing, MMA and kickboxing records together. A person can take only so much punishment. By the way… just fdor the record… Choi Hong Man is 7′2″ tall… very interesting.

  28. SOLO says:

i’ll root for Timma if he gets rid of hid ridiculous mo-hair. he will look more like a normal guy, not like a tough-wanna-be.

GOOD ADVICE TOM- GET NORMAL HAIR!

  29. I Care!

Can I get a Joe Rogan “Wowwwwwwwwww!”

This would be really cool most MMA fans have not been able to see a live Lebanner fight and vs. Timmeh would probably be a great stand up war.
