Quinton Jackson Pleads Not Guilty To Rampage

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Aug 29, 2008

Quinton JacksonFormer UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who on Tuesday was formally charged by by the Orange County District Attorney’s office with two felonies and four misdemeanors stemming from a July hit-and-run incident, has plead not guilty to the charges, according to Sherdog.

Jackson on Thursday also posted $25,000 bail and was released from custody.

The former 205-pound king was charged with one felony count of evading while driving recklessly, one felony count of evading a peace officer and driving against traffic, three misdemeanor counts of hit and run with property damage, and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

Following an initial collision with a vehicle, Jackson fled the scene but was quickly spotted by a police officer who noticed Jackson driving on a flat tire and talking on his cell phone. The officer attempted to stop Jackson but he instead led police on a brief chase, wrecking into another vehicle and nearly hitting several pedestrians before surrendering.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on October 9th for a pre-trial hearing.

According to rumors, Jackson, who on Wednesday announced he had signed a three-year deal with England-based Wolfslair fight team, will return to the octagon on November 15th to take on Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

  2. del says:

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC, BUT IT HAS BEEN RUMOURED TONIGHT ON MMA SCRAPS THAT RANDY COUTURE AND BROCK LESSNAR WILL BE FIGHTING AT UFC 91, I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THIS IS WHAT I HEAR

  3. ALL_VICTIM says:

    RANDY COUTURE VS BROCK LESSNAR

    MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RANDY all the way

  5. @del - Hadn’t heard about Lesnar, though that’s definitely a possibility. Our report is coming up in a few hours but basically Couture is willing to return for one more fight if the UFC agrees to release him afterwards.

  6. johnboy says:

big news about randy didn’t think he’d fight again in the ufc, hope its true would love to see one more match, can’t help thin that brock would beat his ass tho bad match up for randy,

hope rampage gets let off i wana see him a shogun, an i thought there match was for december time?

  7. Wolf says:

Yeah will be big news !

I think he will throw Lesnar to Randy.

If Brock wins man think of the bragging Dana will be doing and surely if Lesnar beats Randy what is the point of him fighting Fedor he will just retire with his tail between his legs.

Dana is probably jacking off on the thought of this right now.

  8. kouch says:

I hope whatever happens with Randy in this situation is not resolved until next year. Randy knows he is getting older and wants this legal BS over and done with. The problem is Randy in this situation. He was spoiled by the UFC then walked out like a little batch when he could not get his way. Randy wants to move on to fighting Fedor so he gets his HUGE payday and can retire. Just to be funny, the UFC should give Randy a fight but make him wait until next April or June. In that time the UFC can go searching for a violent HW or move a contending LHW up to teach an old man a lesson. It won’t be easy finding a tough opponent for Randy…..he’s still a game plan genius when it comes to MMA fighting.

  9. Dietrich says:

    KOuch,
    A+ for today.

  10. Dietrich says:

Rampage needs to think about this …The twinkie defense flopped why should the Redbull gambit work?

  11. Us And Chuck says:

    Fantastic journalism Kris

Quinton Jackson Pleads Not Guilty To Rampage

    Is just a priceless headline

  12. DolfanG says:

I hope the best for Rampage. He seems like a good guy. He made a bad mistake, but the only damage was to cars. He can take care of that. I see no reason for the guy to go to prison.

Now about this off topic discussion about Randy Couture… why are there people still bashing Randy? I don’t get it. The guy is way past his prime and knows he has very little time left to make a big payday. He wants to fight Fedor to get that payday. The UFC is standing in his way. He has earned the right to have the big money fight. The rightful thing in this case would be for the UFC to allow Randy to fight Fedor in or out of the UFC. By not allowing the fight to happen they have made their fabled champion look bad and caused all this trouble. Why didn’t they co-promote the fight? If Randy were to win, he’d still be in the UFC and they could have promoted him as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Instead they managed to pi$$ off their marque champion and loose him.

  15. DolfanG says:

Guilty?… I guess we’ll find out… I like Rampage. I hope he has a long fighting career and I don’t mean in prison.

  16. timcat says:

Rampage needs to get his head right. I watched a thing on MMA TKO,( not a plug), and he is out of his mind.

  17. Chavezz says:

He lost his mind after forreset now he fights shogun hes gonna go wild when he gets knocked the f*ck out

  18. timcat says:

    You got that right Chavezz

  19. kouch says:

This is just me and how I feel:

If Rampage does become a full blown psychopathic and it shows in the cage, that is 100% fine with me. I don’t care if he takes on the lifestyle of a vampire, cross dresser or crocodile hunter. I just want Rampage to come back on fire. I wanted him to lose to Forrest but I did not want him to flip the F out. He did however flip the F out. If he can become a wild beast in the cage like we’ve never seen from Rampage before, he could end up being a great come back story…… all the while remain a psycopatic.
