Randy wasn’t 40 when they had their 3 matches. And lets not forget Randy went on to win the HW title and defend it against Napo. So their is a big difference in Royce and Randy.

And I love Carlos Newton, he’s an entertaining fighter and is a expert in Dragon Ball Ju Jitsu which is classic. But he hardly great. You can’t have a 13 and 13 record losing to all the upper class fighter and be called great, Hes basicly Karo or Nick. A very skilled fighter that will never be a champ.

UFC Fan, you gotta understand that you mention all the W’s but you leave out the fact that the 1st time he fought BJ he was dominated and got submitted. GSP kicked him in the face and KO’d him the 2nd time around. BJ won the 1st 2 rounds of the 2nd fight, but broke a few ribs and tore cartillage when he was taking Matt’s back and that’s why he gassed and Hughes won. Tapped by GSP the 2nd time. You name drop Newton and Trigg, but they aren’t great fighters. And he beat a 40 something year old Royce Gracie hardly something to hang your hat on. So Hughes will be a hall of famer but I would hardly call him the most dominate champ. Chuck had a run where he beat Randy twice, Tito Twice, Bablu to name a few. Anderson still hasent lost and cleaned out the whole division. So lets not go over board with the love for Hughes.

Yo, here’s the deal on Hughes vs Serra.

Matt Hughes has been called a d*ck for many different reasons. I thought he was an as*hole on TUF 4 when he was being a douche to GSP and then made a racial comment to Din Thomas about having big lips.

It was only after that, that we started to see Matt Serra talking **** about Hughes and rightfully so. Also, Serra’s boy Luke Cummo was on TUF 2 when Hughes was the coach and we all know how that **** went down.

Also, it’s funny that all you Hughes fans seem to have forgotten the part in Hughes book where he admits to egging on the fight between Serra and Marc Laimon. Hughes came in after beating Gracie and was more than happy to rub it in Serra’s face that he just beat a guy Serra used to train with…

Then there’s the way he acted during TUF 6 (being a b*tch about losing) and who could forget that after Hughes got his a*s beat by Alves that he turned around started talking **** about Serra again.

Matt Serra for his part has been sticking up for his buddies and working his ass off for this fight. He earned enough respect from me after seeing him become a leader to his team on TUF 4 and then being trainer and a true mentor to his guys on TUF 6.

Plus he’s funny as hell. That’s probably why I like Serra so much, he’s a fu*king riot on TV. It’ll be a tough match but I honestly think Serra has the tools to bring it all together and finish Hughes. Will he ever be a champ again? Not sure, but he can most def take out Hughes.

@windmiller - Welcome to the wonderful world of MMA fight records. Sherdog is basically the go to for us in terms of records but the UFC (I believe) gets the records from the fighters directly and they may include fights Sherdog doesn’t have as well as some amateur bouts.

In general you could check 10 different sites and find 10 different records for a given fighter. Sherdog tends to be the most accurate and is what we use but in all reality a fighters record isn’t all that accurate.

Plain and simple GSP got caught with a right hook that dropped him. GSP isn’t superman, he isn’t unbeatable, he under estimated a tough opponent and got caught it happened and isn’t real debatable.

G, I’m with you. Matt vs Matt now seems worthless. 9 months ago Serra was the champ, and Hughes was the former champ. Hughes was rude to Serra on TUF 4, back when Hughes was the champ. It would have been a great five round title fight. Now it seems like two ex-champs in a 3 round we don’t care about. It wouldn’t have mattered, because by now GSP would have won the title already.

yzfox, did you see the same fight? you sound shocked that i would say that serra was owning gsp. btw, i’m not the only one who’s said that, in fact, hughes himself went on record saying the same thing. ya, gsp slipping didn’t help, but it was serra pressin the action that forced him into that situation to begin with. at no point was serra in danger during that fight. had that been someone else, for instance if that had been bj penn doing that to gsp, everyone would agree that bj owned him, yet cuz it’s serra who gets no respect, it was a fluke and he only won cuz he’s lucky? c’mon, you don’t gotta like the guy but you gotta admit that gsp was dominated. as for the interest in this fight, i’m sure that as it gets closer and the rivalry heats up again, people will be plenty excited for this fight. once again, i hope serra wins, and i don’t consider him to be as big an underdog as some might say.

Answer is simple, people one way or another don’t like one of the fighters and wants to see the other guy win. Like I want to see Matt Serra win, the same way I wanted to see Thiago Alves win. I really dislike Hughes and relish in him losing cause I think he a f*cking tool. That’s why people are still interested in this fight. I also don’t undertsand your resentment towards the upcoming Chuck Rashad fight. Striker Vs. Grappler is always a good show espeically when the striker KO’s him in the 2nd.

Why does Matt Serra have no right to talk about Hughes? He’s never said he was a paper champion or questioned his skills. He’s ripped hughes the entire time for being a dick. And watch season 4 of TUF and tell me if he doesn’t treat GSP like **** for the portion he comes out to train. Hell I’ve never said he was a crap fighter, I’ve just said he’s a Dick with a huge ego (even though I may have used some other choice words to descirbe my dislike for him). And just because you beat someone doesn’t give you the right to keep ripping them or the right to be a dick. I thought GSP might have taught him that lesson the 2nd time they fought, I guess not.

no what i saw is when GSP was doging a punch serra missed completly he slipped then serra got 1 punch then GSP slipped again then he got more punches in rocked GSP and took advantage of that so ya but i can;’t blam him for taking advantage of slipping twice but that seems pretty lucky to me

althought i think it was semi flukish, i’m can’t say that i agree with everyone sayin that serra’s win over gsp is cuz he caught him. he was owning him the whole fight, it wasn’t just a lucky punch that landed and shifted the momentum of the fight. he went in and had a plan, GSP couldn’t handle it and he lost. btw, i’m a huge gsp fan so it’s not like i take any pride in having just said that, lol.

Alright this is my last comment on the hughes saga…. as for the fitch and gsp fight he said this “I usually donâ€™t do this, but Iâ€™m going to break my rule this time. Thereâ€™s been so much talk about my last blog entry that itâ€™s amazing. Some of it is legitimate thinking, some of it is just from idiots. I never said the GSP fight was boring, the reason I walked out was because I wanted to beat the crowd. I didnâ€™t think Fitch was going to get back in the match and the fight wasnâ€™t as exciting as I thought it would be. If you want, you can go look at my last blog entry and see that this is basically what I said. So people criticized me for leaving the fight early and said that was disrespectful to GSP, I disagree, I just wanted to get out of there. Some people just need to realize that this is what I do for a living. Now letâ€™s take what you do for a living, go to a conference every month for a few years and see if you want to leave early during one of them. I even had one guy on Yahoo! Sports report that I said that I thought GSP was on steroids. If you go back to my blog and look at what I actually said, I said that I thought that he looked smaller than he has looked before. Never once did I say that GSP was on steroids for this fight. To all the Matt Hughes fans, Do I know 1st hand, no. But should I take the word of a bunch of fighers that have dealt with him? Yes. Before the Thiago Hughes fight, they showed in the the UFC countdown a story about why there was bad blood between the two. And Thiago explained when he was starting out after a loss, Hughes came up to coach at the gym where he was tarinning. And was just being a dick about Thiago getting submitted. You add that to how I’ve seen him treat and talk to the fighters on the TUF seasons. Along with his statements he put out to the media (including walking out on the GSP Fitch fight) and it paints a pretty clear picture of a man that has a huge ego and a guy that is a arrogant dick.
