Tito Ortiz: The Man Without A Contract
Not only has Tito Ortiz not signed with Affliction after all, but it now appears that the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” is searching everywhere under the sun for an offer to his liking.
What we do know is that Ortiz remains unattached to any particular promotion at this time, and is by all definitions a free agent roaming the open market.
So why has Tito yet to strike a deal? Well this might come as a shock to some of you, but it seems that Ortiz has a bit of an attitude about him which could be delaying that fat new contract.
From The Dayton Daily News:
“…Earlier this month, Ortiz (15-6-1) announced that he had reached a deal with Affliction — a long-term deal that he claimed would make him the highest-paid fighter in MMA. At a press conference the following day, though, Affliction would barely confirm the company was even in negotiations with Ortiz.
Now, according to industry insiders, Ortiz is hosting formal negotiations with all the top promotions — Affliction, EliteXC, the AFL and even, surprisingly, the UFC.
“I don’t know if we’re really negotiating, or simply helping Tito stroke his giant ego,” one frustrated company representative said Sunday, Aug. 17.”
While it certainly would be a trip if the relatively unknown AFL scooped up Ortiz, I think it would be even more absurd if he were to fall back in line with the UFC. I understand that a man of Tito’s ego desires the largest stage and publicity possible, but given the raw, oozing hatred Ortiz and Dana White share, the idea of a re-signing is just beyond my comprehension at this point.
There is also the possibility of EliteXC winning Ortiz over, but the folks at ProElite are reportedly going through some financial troubles lately, which is quite the roadblock when considering a fighter who no doubt is shooting for a seven figure deal. I personally believe that Ortiz will ultimately accept a more reasonable offer from Affliction, as I feel like they are the only party that could really come close to meeting Tito’s money line, while still offering decent pay-per-view exposure as well as a legitimate opponent.
Ortiz, 33, last competed at UFC 84 this past May, suffering a unanimous decision loss to light-heavyweight contender Lyoto Machida.

PLEASE TITO, RETIRE ALREADY !!!
PIMP JENNA AND THE PORN INDUSTRY, NOT MMA.
ENOUGH SAID.
I bet other fighters love the fact that some bum like Tito is asking for tons of money. Guys will be looking to destroy him and then get their pay day. Maybe he can open his on organization……call it PPPP…….Proud Pregnant Porno Pimps……..
TITO ORTIZ: THE MAN WITHOUT A CONTRACT
ALERT: ARTICLE TITLE CHANGE UPDATE !
TITO ORTIZ: THE MAN WITHOUT A CONDOM
OUCH!!!
Tito from where i’m from we would call you either a tosser, a twat or a wanker.
Tito your the new Ken Shamrock !
Oh the irony
hahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha HA!! still doesnt have a contract i hope he retires because no one wants him!
Tito needs to wake up and realize he is not worth the money he is asking for. He has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and the Griffin fight was a gift. Get over yourself and just win baby!!
this is great, tito is the barry bonds of MMA…NOBODY WANTS HIM!!!
I like how we keep using the same picture of him…you know, the one taken back when he was decent?
i wonder if my Roger Huerta is paying attention? for the best way to make long term money seems to be in the UFC, hell not even Affliction is giving away their money like they did for the Banned card, EliteXC (ProElite) doesnt seem to have any money because well Shaw just is an awful awful man…..
Tito go to Strikeforce fight Frank one pay day and call it good… doesnt suprise me that nobody wants to pay the man what he isnt worth…
Tito has to be getting bad advice from somewhere. On top of that he is naturally stupid. This is going to be far more interesting than Randy’s situation.
I’m telling you guys…..I heard through the grapevine that Elite is going under. This was 2 months ago and there has been signs to indicate the rumor is true. Taking Gary Shaw out of the public eye or reassigning his “duties” and having to cancel their upcoming show really gives me the impression Elite is hurting right now.
KOouch,
i personally think its more than just EliteXC, it just may very well be the ProElite system, they have been losing mass amounts of money and they did get the National Contract and such but they are still going down hill…. everyone was complaining about Dana White not going thru with the HBO deal or a NBC,CBS,ABC type deal well Gary Shaw is making Dana look like a genius because not even a national television deal could save ProElite let alone take them to the “next level” that was first suggested by Shaw..
FR,
Very good point. I’ll quote Dana again.
“Nobody knows the business of MMA the way I do.”
-Dana White
So far he has proven to be right. I feel bad for the Elite fighters who will have to figure out what to do when Elite goes under but at the same time I am thrilled to see Gary Shaw eat his words and fail.
Kelvin,
Tito is not the Barry of MMA. You’re right that no one wants either of them but Tito’s talent in MMA is no where near or close to Barry’s in baseball.
my thoughts exactly KOuch,
and its seems that the entire company is in denial.. they actively seeking finacing they have lost MILLIONS of dollars, cancelling shows in both the US and Europe, and the company is like no we’re good no worries, instead hey made some bad decisions working towards making a better product yada yada…
Back to Tito no way imo will ZUFFA allow him to go back to the UFC, that perhaps doesnt rule like a 3 fight contract with the WEC… or he could go to Strikeforce, Palace Fighting Championships (who has a cable deal and is trying to gather up know stars or atleast the stars they can afford ie Alex Shoehauer from the IFL), but he needs to come back down to reality and realize the isnt going to get 1mil a fight… he just isnt worth it
I think Tito is still in belief that he is the Tito of 2002, a title holder in a spot that can be ruled by wreslters with average striking ability and sub defence.
To be fair tito is a good fighter, He actually looked really good against Machida, he just played into Machida’s game a little too long, And In orginizations like Affliction he really does have the chance to be champion because there is no Chuck or Machida or Griffon (all really good or technical strikers with good take down defence). But if Tito does put some wins behind him he isn’t worth a big contract. in the UFC he beat Ken twice (big woop) his split D over Griffon was crap, He lost to Chuck, Drew Evans (altho in reality you take away the fence grab and he won that fight) and lost to Machida, Thats not exactly the resume to bring for a 7 figure contract.
Im pretty sure this is all Jenna’s fault, behind every stupid thing a man does is a pretty woman. Jenna “hustled” her way into being a millionare, now she see all the cash in MMA and thinks that she can work her magic and earn Tito the biggest pay day ever. All the issues between Dana and Tito came up when Jenna came into his life, while the sex must be good its kinda been downhill for him after they hooked up.
As for Proelite I hear their stock was down to $2 a share and they are $35 million in debt. They’ve laid off workers and are down to the bare bones as far as staffing goes. all signs point to this company going under despite not only having a Network TV contract but a contract with showtime. And yes Dana is a genius cause he couldve saw the deal they made and rushed into a stupid network contract that didnt benefit the UFC. So watch out affliction you could be next if you keep giving us the same rehashed fighters over n over again.
talk about someone who has gone batsh1t crazy
Tito accept $250k a fight, plus $250k win bonus, 2-3 fight deal with Affliction. That’s what u are worth to for PPV buys. Obviously, there will be no need for win bonus payouts. He’s become too soft and pampered. But he can still draw a crowd.
KOuch,
i was just referring to nobody wanting tito, i agree he hasn’t done as much for the sport. then again, barry took steroids so in my eyes he didn’t do anything for the sport either. however, this site is about MMA, not baseball, so i won’t get into that.
I always liked Tito but based on his last few fights he isn’t deserving of a big contract. I would like to see the UFC sign him to a one fight contract though and since he believes he still has “it” have him fight Wanderlei Silva in December. If he can beat Silva maybe that will show the UFC or any other organization that he does still have some fight in him. If he loses then maybe he will deside to move on.
Tito Ortiz is a gun!!!
He knowns the money thats out there to be made,
sign a 3 fight Contract (with one of the top mma names) kick some A$$ get more wins under your belt, then ask for the big big pay days. Tito still has all the tools to be a champ , he just got lost somewhere along the way.
no matter where he fights people will still buy the PPV.
THE GNP KING WILL BE BACK…..
