Jason MacDonald Replaces Jason Day at UFC 88

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Aug 20, 2008

Jason MacDonaldJason MacDonald will attempt to rebound from a third-round submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC 87 earlier this month when he takes on Jason Lambert at UFC 88 in place of an injured Jason Day.

Sherdog first reported the matchup yesterday.

Day was forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Lambert after suffering elbow and biceps injury that will sideline the Canadian middleweight for an unknown period of time.

MacDonald (20-10) opened his UFC career with back-to-back wins over Ed Herman and Chris Leben but then dropped three of his next five bouts to Rich Franklin, Yushin Okami, and Maia. He’s also earned UFC victories over Rory Singer and Joe Doerksen.

Following three-straight victories over Rob MacDonald, Terry Martin, and Brenden Lee Hinkle to open his UFC career Lambert was defeated by Rashad Evans then posted a knockout victory over Renato “Babalu” Sobral. He next lost back-to-back light heavyweight bouts to Wilson Gouveia and, most-recently at UFC 85 in June, Luis Cane, which forced him drop down to the 185-pound middleweight division.

UFC 88 takes place on September 6th at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia and features a main event light heavyweight matchup between former 205-pound champion Chuck Liddell and “The Ultimate Fighter 2″ winner Rashad Evans.

So Jason is no longer fighting Jason from Canada. Now he is fighting Jason from Canada.

If Mcdonald can take Lambert down, he can definitely submit him, but I imagine Lambert is going to be huge at MW and difficult to take down. Lambert definitely has KO power as well.

  2. Fr702 says:

Babalu couldnt sub Lambert and ended up getting ko’d sooo guess you never know…

Jason coming back in a month to fill in is pretty cool on his part

  3. fixxxer says:

i cant stand to watch this guy anymore. He kinda looks like Bob Sagat

  4. Cole Miller says:

anybody see his fight with demian maia?? dude is a badass…I see him being one of the top contenders soon!!! His jui jitsu is probably the best in the 185 division….talkin about maia…not mcdonald..

  5. What kind of fight will this be? What Lambert is going to show up, what MacDonald is going to show up? This could be a good fight. There was a time I liked to watch them both. I doubt both will be on top of their game in this fight. Good thing this fight won’t be aired, I shouldn’t have to pay to see this fight.

I agree Cole, but Macdonald had some good JJ too. Not on the Maia level, but pretty good. I think I agree with Rogan that if he had stood he might could have beat Maia.

  7. The Rob says:

Bob Saget’s stand up comedy is hilarious. So is Joe Rogan’s.

I had taken Jason from Canada to win, but now that he’s out, I’m going to take Jason from Canada.

  8. Dannyboy says:

MacDonald used to look so good until he fought Rich Franklin. Rich picked him apart easily and that’s why MacDonald will take any fight he can get. But if he keeps losing the UFC won’t keep him much longer.

  9. kouch says:

MacDonald needs to fight smarter. I swear in every one of his matches I’ve heard his corner givin great advice between rounds and he goes out stubborn/recklessly fighting however he wants. Look at his last match. He tried to roll with Maia and got submitted. His corner was screaming “KO this mother f-er” “stand and bang” “swing for the fences with this guy.” He never listened and BAM! Another loss on his record.
