Tito Ortiz In Talks With Affliction, Contract “Not Feasible”

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Aug 14, 2008

Tito OrtizFormer UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is engaged in active contract negotiations with Affliction, though his demands are so steep that the potential contract is “not feasible” for the MMA promotion and a deal with the outspoken 205-pound fighter will not be done in time for Ortiz to compete at Affliction “Day of Reckoning” in October against Renato “Babalu” Sobral as expected, according to MMA Weekly.

From the report:

“…negotiations are now underway with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. Affliction COO Michael Cohen confirmed that Ortiz is free to negotiate with the upstart company, and was working on a deal with Ortiz’s lawyers.

As of yet, few details on the negotiation exist, but Atencio initially said the dollar signs associated with the record-breaking contract are the major sticking point.

“We’ve got a contract, and it’s just not feasible,” Atencio said.

Atencio gave no timetable for the potential signing, but Cohen said he did not expect a deal to be reached in time for Affliction’s “Day Of Reckoning” at the Thomas and Mack Center on Oct. 11 in Las Vegas.”

Ortiz is 15-6-1 in his professional MMA career but has not won since an October 2006 first-round TKO victory over Ken Shamrock.

  1. The Lord Mark says:

Way to show how truly greedy you are Tito.

  2. Erizzle says:

Once again, all talk and no follow-through–no concept of reality, Tito.

“Go to Affliction and make more money.”

    Is Roger Huerta listening?

  3. jwilly84us says:

Affliction will go bankrupt by signing Ortiz, but that is ok the UFC and Dana White will still be around. See you in the unemployment line Ortiz.

  4. UFC fan says:

tito sucks. forrest beat him. and tito got the win unbelievaly and he leaves ufc for somthing different to make more money. he is a greedy whinner. i just wanted him to quit MMA.

  5. aznstar_inc says:

Haha maybe Tshirt boy isn’t as dumb as I had thought.

If you listen very very carefully you can hear Dana White laughing.

  6. UFC fan says:

hahahahhahahahahahaha i cant believe tito ever became champ. if he ever wins a title again they should have him fight liddell right away so he can whoop his ass agian!!!! ICEMAN! and am i tshirt boy? anyway ur right i hear dana laughing right now…

  7. The Lord Mark says:

no, tshirt boy would be affliction. they make tshirts.

  8. belly says:

thats pretty funny. this shows that maybe tito isnt worth as much as he thinks to anyone not just the ufc.

  9. The Lord Mark says:

As much of a jacka$$ as Tito is at times, (some times hilarious) at least he honored his contract with the UFC before he went an searched for his big payday. Unlike someone I won’t mention….uhhumm…(captain America).

  10. Arnold Darkshner says:

looks like his talk of how he was gonna be the face of the promotion and involved behind the scenes was a little premature

  11. The Lord Mark says:

oh and to avoid any confusion…I’m still a tito fan for life…haha. Seriously though..I am.

  12. Planck16 says:

For bragging about being a great businessman, Tito sure didn’t do his homework before he decided to jump ship. It is obvious he wants the biggest contract in MMA history, but an organization like Affliciton cannot give him and Fedor both tons of money. Tito is a tool, at least Fedor wins. Tito hasn’t won a match in 2 years and is demanding money that is crazy. Maybe he sees that Jenna is gonna suck him dry and leave him…….great planning for the future CHEETO! I would rather watch Tito Santana than Tito Ortiz.

  13. esopterodactyl says:

Why does he expect Affliction to pay so much for a Former Champ who seemingly can’t beat anyone but shamrock anymore. He is lucky anyone wants him.

  14. huertarogerhuerta says:

how much could he possibly b askin for hes probably embarressed that jenna gets more to suck dick then he does to fight

  15. UFC fan says:

guys if u go vs youtube and watch ufc vs mad tv its hilureos i know i didnt spell that right the ufc guy is tito. i hate him but it is very funny

  16. UFC fan says:

my bad its called MAD TV VS ULTIMATE FIGHTER but doesnt matter it was close enough.

  17. Sharper says:

ive always enjoyed tito fighting (and i greatly enjoyed him on TUF), but he needs to learn to compromise (randy too, but thats a different story). this is a shame, because i dont see him fighting anytime soon. maybe he’ll give elite a go lol

  18. aznstar_inc says:

In regards to Randy, from what I’ve just been told he is now asking for $6 to 7 Mil for his fight against Fedor. Evidently Randy has been hit by Chuck 1 too many times.

  19. spett says:

Oh my god! First the greedy bastards at the UFC refused to give the great fighter Tito Ortiz what he really deserves, and now Affliction have more interest in building up a gigantic piggy bank of money than to give him what he deserves!

Someone should just overthrow these greedy fight promotions who only cares about making money for themself then throw dana white and atencio in a cell, throw away the keys and give their dirty money to Tito “I’m gonna be an actor” Ortiz!

  20. jiujitsuMAN says:

huh? wth are you smokin…. tito is nothing but hype, the defining moment in titos carrer is when couture spanked him in front of millions of people… right then and there tito should have retired…

tito has done nothing but lose the respect of his fans over the years, and in a year or so he wont have any fans left…

  21. aznstar_inc says:

I wanna say that guy is being sarcastic, but I don’t think so…Tito is that you?

  22. UFC fan says:

i cant believ he has fans i hate him..

  23. ALL_VICTIM says:

Im a Tito fan till the end,
full respect to Tito, his just try’n to make some $$$$$ at the end of the day, I just want to see him fight and kick some A$$, if he can bring the old Tito back and improve his stand up he will F#%* up any one he is fighting

    GnP king Tito Ortiz…..

  24. UFC fan says:

Im a Tito hater till the end,
no respect to tito, his just a whhinner at the end of the day, i just want to see him fight and get his @$$ kicked, if he keeps it up he will keep losing,

    will never like tito….

  25. The Rob says:

huertarogerhuerta, that is possibly the best quote i’ve ever heard. props to you. ha.

    oh man, it’s funny cause it’s true……

  26. kouch says:

It will all get squared away but in the mean time this does not help Affliction’s next event. As of now Fedor, Tito and Babalu are out. Fedor and Tito alone are going to hurt the draw beyond Affliction’s wildest dream of worse case scenario. I bet Dana is loving this. It will all be taken care of and before you know it Affliction will have Tito and Fedor on the same card as they overpay their way into debt and failure……all in the long run.

  27. Gene Simmons says:

What’s wrong w/asking for a generous contract? Tito is one of the only fighters that realize how much $$ the promoters make. He has been a pioneer in the sport of mma and just wants what he deserves. Dana is jealous of Tito and it’s so obvious by how he treats their relationship. It’s business Dana, not personal! Did your friend Lorenzo have to step in and take over your job because you’re so jealous of anything cooler than you?(Affliction, Tito, Randy, Fedor, Sylvia, Arlovski, etc.)Dana is the fall of UFC.

  28. aznstar_inc says:

Its not a problem asking for a generous contract. Its a problem when you want the biggest contract ever and you haven’t won a fight in 2 years. I have no clue where Dana being jealous of Tito or affliction came from, Dana runs the marque organization in MMA. At this rate affiliction won’t last a year. I also don’t know why you think Lorenzo took over Dana’s job, Lorenzo no runs the International side of the UFC. Is Dana still not every where? I love when guys just make up things on the internet.

Ps Tim Sylvia isn’t cooler than anyone.

  29. Erizzle says:

Dana is the fall of the UFC? I would say he was monumental in the rise of the UFC if anything.

Affliction will go out of business guaranteed.
