UFC 87 Medical Suspensions: St-Pierre, Fitch Among Suspended Fighters
Georges St-Pierre, Jon Fitch, Dan Evensen, and Ryan Thomas each received precautionary 30 day medical suspensions stemming from their bouts at UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” on August 9th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The state’s mixed martial arts sanctioning body, the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission, confirmed the medical suspensions with MMA Junkie on Monday.
St-Pierre and Fitch were both suspended for 30 days due to cuts sustained in their five-round championship main event bout, which St-Pierre won via unanimous decision.
Evensen received a 30 day precautionary suspension due to his first-round TKO loss to Cheick Kongo on the night’s preliminary card and must also undergo a CT scan to confirm that he sustained no serious injuries in the loss.
Thomas, who was defeated by Ben Saunders via second-round submission in the event’s opening bout, also received a 30 day suspension due to cuts.
According to the report, no fighter salaries will be available for UFC 87 as Minnesota does not publicly release MMA salary information.

I def think the Ken-flo should have to fight and beat at least one more top contender before he gets another title shot. If Griffen wins then let them 2 fight for the next shot at BJ. If Sherk wins let Ken-flo fight against Maynard, Edgar, Fischer, or someone like that for the next shot. I just think since he got so man handled by Sherk in his first shot at the title that he should have to beat another top ranked guy to prove he’s ready for it again. Maynard is a great wrestler and stronger than people realize I think. He’s trained with the best but in the UFC, who hasn’t? I remember on the last season of TUF Forrest had Maynard as a coach because he said, “Maynard is a great wrestler and most of all he KNOWS MMA wrestling.” Not sure why I remember such a useless quote but maybe your Maynard support group can use that.

Niether one is really one of my favorites or even close…. I think Pibull has a great chance with his power and aggression but Diego is more technical. It sort of reminds me of another version of KenFlo/Huerta…..as far as raw toughness vs technical skill. Diego by submission rd 2.

I like Herring, but think he may be slightly overrated. Granted, he’s got a ton of experience and has fought nearly all the top HW in the world. However, the fight that leads me to believe he’s overrated is the loss to “Irish” Jake O’Brien. That was one of the worst fights in MMA history. “Irish” Jake must have mounted him 19 times that fight and sat on Herring. His takedown and ground defense were downright pitiful, especially having previously fought Nogueira (Pride) and Fedor (Pride).
Again, I like Herring and wish him a speedy recovery…if he’s still alive, that is.

Interesting matchups but do we really want to see sherk dominate ken-flo so early again. Let Ken-flo get a little more seasoning or if Griffen wins let those 2 fight instead. I don’t think Ken-Flo can beat any of those guys. He’s a skilled fighter but those guys are just to strong for him. That’s his weakness in my opinion. Still a good fighter though. Let him fight against Edgar, Diaz, or Guida. Those would be entertaining fights. Keep him away from maynard though. I think he would be to overpowering for him as well.

Long time rumor that keeps popping up.They (Zuffa) wanted the WEC for the smaller divisions and the UFC for the bigger divisions.

Why is everyone sleeping on Florian? Florian would house Gray Maynard. And why should he fight Clay Guida? He’d be moving backwards, considering Huerta choked Guida out in his last fight.
