Question: What does GSP have to gain by fighting Penn for the WW title besides glory and being the only guy to beat penn twice? Its not like GSP can fight at 155??? SO this looks like a win win for BJ. If he loses (which i think he will) he still has the LW belt but IF GSP loses he doesnt have that “other” belt. It should just be a 5 round superfight, no belts. Prediction: GSP wins unanamous decision 5 rounds.

as for rogan: i think he’s resentful that a non-american has the title and worse - a “frog” (french-canadian) - rogan says good things on the air and in interviews about gsp for sure…but underneath i suspect that rogan truly resents being forced to sit on the gsp bandwagon…

i want to see couture fight ANYONE. i think that the ufc fighters should all refuse to re-sign with the ufc and form their own ‘league’ or union and negotiate with organizations like ‘affliction’ to put on MMA events - guaranteeing a better and more appropriate payment for the fighters.

dana seems to think that vince mcmahon (WWE) is a ‘god’. vince does cartoons.

i want to see gsp fight penn and anderson silva. i want to see silva fight dana’s love-interest liddell.

Have to disagree with Eric on this one. I wasn’t happy with this card at all and felt bored many times. Tried to get a new guy into it, he paid for it and then was disappointed. GSP/Fitch someone should have finished. Lesnar/Herring someone should have finished. Huerta/Florian someone should have finished. Very disappointing indeed. Ah well, I will still watch but not sure I got my buddy hooked yet.

GOAT IN THE BOAT, not to re~hash anything about Silva v Le but in the Frank fight versus Le Frank decided (because of his knees or just pride) to soley stand with Le which Silva wouldnt do, also Silva imo has more ko power than Frank and Frank rocked Le a few times, it would be a really good fight, but Silva would win dont forget Silva has some pretty good kicks as well

Hughes would have beat Serra if the fight took place at UFC 79 now i’m not so sure.
Back to Silva vs Le i know there are plenty of Silva fan boys out there but how can you say he would smash Le ?
Cung totally dominated Frank Shamrock with ease in their fight this year and is with outdoubt the best striker at 185.

Just like i predicted. GSP destroyed Fitch and is now left with no real challenge at WW. Seriously, i want to see GSP vs PENN because, bj’s getting on my nerves. He only wants this fight, to avenge his loss not to put on a great show for the fans. Cung Le would be a bad fight for Silva.
Cung is a far better striker and has a great take down defence.
I think the main reason why this wont happen is because Dana knows Silva’s image would get shattered.
BTW Cung is not contracted to Elite XC which he has stated in the past when asked about Silva.

I just wanted to say thoroughly enjoyed your comments and I totally agree with just about everything you said. I would like to say though I wrestled in College (as well as trained in Combat Sambo) and watched Lesnar win his National title at Minnesota. That being said I’ve also witnessed something he has never been able to do effectively and that was riding legs. For those of you not familiar with the term riding legs it is essentially putting in hooks. So if you cannot ride legs in wrestling and try to you can get too high, fall off, and be reversed or pinned. Well in MMA that means being on your back and I don’t think Lesnar wants to have to fight off his back against experienced ground guys this early in his very young MMA career. I would like to say though I was amazed at the amount of chances he had to easily lock up the choke and did not pull the trigger but having seen him wrestle in college I was not surprised he didn’t. Honestly, I think it’s why Herring gave him his back so much because he thought he could try to escape easier. Needless to say he’s gotta learn that eventually if he ever wants to be a top tier fighter.

That being said I told everyone I was watching the event with that while he shows promise he has a long, long way to go. Whether you hate or love his antics at the end(I hated it) you gotta admit he did ride out the crazy horse. great article though and I used to always forget the ’s’ on GSP too so I feel your pain.

Just because he made contact doesn’t mean he has punching power. Just because he’s improved greatly since his beginning does does not make him a spectacular fighter. Only 8 of Fitch’s 22 fights have gone to a decision. And you can questions a fighter’s status by whether they finish or not. Is he extremely athletic? Absolutely. Does he have potential? Of course. But a top 5 fighter he is not. GSP, Fitch, Hughes, Penn, hell even Sanchez and Alves I’d put over Koscheck. And that’s just in the UFC, not the ‘world.’ I’d be surprised if he could beat Matt Serra, and I mean beat him, not cover him up to protect him from the cool breeze in the arena.

kos doesnt have punching power tell chris lytle that….tell dustin hazlett that….kos has improved greatly since his begining he is a spectacular fighter…he is without a doubt the #3 ww in the world…..and for his 6 of 13 fights going to the judges…..look at fitch 5 of his 9 ufc FIGHTS have gone to the judges….am i to question his fighter status..no!….and to the gsp wrestling comment…just because you have no wrestling background doesnt mean you cant wrestle……i mean imo gsp is probably the best wrestler in the ufc right behind brock lesner….he dominated matt hughes,jon fitch and kos all at wrestling he is a great wreslter and fighter….that fight with kos did nothing but good for kos…it showed that he could duke it out with the big guys and survive…and i really dont see alves beating kos…alves is really overated imo….and sanchez i dont even think deserves a shot at alves even…a win over david bielkeholden and a not very good luigi fiorivanti is not even near a top contender spot yet!

Koscheck is a spectacular fighter? He doesn’t have punching power, all he does is rely on his wrestling and keep them down for 15 minutes. When he tries to stand up he only throws bombs and misses 95% of the time. Six of his thirteen fights have gone to a decision. He got out-wrestled by GSP who has no wrestling background. If Kos is ’spectacular’ what do you call GSP?
BTW, Kos already beat Sanchez, an unexciting fight at that. IF Diego gets past Alves, I could see the two of them fighting, but with Alves’ power, Kos doesn’t have a chance.

I think everyone is gettg a little off topic. The NYE card is always a massive major card for the UFC. This is the most obvious card were they stack it with matchups that everyone will pay for. Wasn’t the firt time St. Pierre won the title on a december card? Maybe not. But St. Pierre vs Penn will most probably take place on that card because it will sell. I for one believe that Penn will lose fairly bad in this go round, which is sad because if he remains at 155 and loses to Georges then it gives the feeling that the fighters at 170 are better than the fighters at 155. I think it’ll be a blow out in GSP’s favor.

I agree with you about Penn and GSP, I think they should both defend their titles at least one more time before a re-match takes place.

But personally, I don’t think Penn should be getting a title shot at 170 just because he asked for it (Penn whines about a rematch and just gets one?). If my memory is right, didn’t Penn lose his last 2 fights at 170? Why does that entitle him to a fight for the title? I mean look at Anderson Silva, a man many believe is the best P4P fighter in the world, and he just had a fight at 205 (not a title shot just because he happens to hold a belt in a weight class lower). If Silva decides to try for a title at 205 he’ll probably have to fight at least one more guy before he gets it (maybe Lidell or Rampage?). That being said, shouldn’t BJ have to beat a few guys at 170 before he gets a shot at GSP? Maybe have him fight Diego, Alves, Karo, or whoever is near the top when he makes the transition to 170. Just my opinion.

I am a huge GSP fan, but if he moved up to 185 I would expect he would have to fight a few top level MW’s before getting a shot at the spider.

Cung’s ground game is non existant. Silva could beat Cung by flicking him. I love Cung and met him several times but he is not anywhere near Silva in any way. Cung just has a very unique style of stand up using mostly kicks. Silva has a unique style of making people break and wishing they were dead.

I also would prefer to see GSP vs Silva. I personally think GSP will handle Penn easy enough. Everyone acts like the first fight was so close but other then the first 2 minutes GSP won the whole fight. He just got bloodied up a little so people decide not to judge the fight properly. And going into that fight he looked much to ****y. this time he will enter the fight as he always does of late. Serious and focused. I see alot of ground control leading to a stoppage in the 4th because as much better as BJs cardio is it wont be able to hang with GSp

RJA, I know Kos already had a shot at GSP, and his best submission defense was holding onto his own shorts to prevent a kimora. But Kos recently did an interview, I think with FIGHT! magazine but not certain, that he wants a title shot at either 155, 170, or 185.
Also, I think Congo/Lesnar would result in the same way it did on Saturday. Congo has absolutely no ground game and even worse take down defense. Lesnar is nothing more than the heavyweight version of Kos as the human blanket.

The UFC’s WW division isn’t an issue. If push comes to shove, they’ve got the winner of Diego Sanchez/Thiago Alves to give to GSP. Hell even Koscheck thinks he deserves a shot. Let GSP teach him a lesson. Penn is his biggest challenge at 170.
Middlewieght on the other hand is not the most talent rich pool. Hence why a lot would love to see GSP move up, or have Silva move up to 205 which he says he won’t challenge the title there because friend/training partner Machida is headed that way. The only other option would to get Kung Lee from XC. I hadn’t heard about the UFC admitting they didn’t have anything else in WW. Maybe they just don’t think anyone else can handle GSP because he’s separated himself that much from any other competition.

Another question, isn’t UFC admitting they don’t have anything else in the welterweight division? For organization that claims to have all the talent cornered why is so tough to find a plausible challenger for GSP or Anderson Silva?

Lesnar needs to fight mir again. The first fight should have been over in 10 seconds. When mir turtled the fight should have been stopped. I know every other fight when a guy turns his head away the fight is stopped. Of course Brock hit him in the back of the head he was swinging away and Frank turtled. No warnings and they took a point away. What a rib. Sure Brock got caught but it shoulf of been stopped right then. Aside from fedor Barnett and minotauro no one will beat this guy. And just wait till he has more experience.

JL I don’t think anyone is blaming rogan.I think it’s just the structure of the event.all 3 of the top fights on the card went the distance. So i guess they had no time to spare.
