Tickets On Sale For September 20th EliteXC Event in Albuquerque

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Aug 7, 2008

Joey Villasenor“Albuquerque is and has always been a great fight town. For sure, it is an accomplishment and especially an honor for me to fight before all my friends, family and fans. I am very excited about Sept. 20. This is going to be a great night for EliteXC, mixed martial arts and for this city.”

The classy young man doing the talking is popular Joey Villasenor, aka “Smokin’ Joe,” who’ll be featured against an opponent to be announced on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Pit in Albuquerque, N.M.

“I have heard a few names being tossed around, but I do not care who I fight,” said the talented, world-ranked middleweight, who will be making his first appearance in Albuquerque since he registered a first-round TKO over Joe Merit on June 14, 2003.

Villasenor, who registered a 1:11, first-round TKO (strikes) over Phil Baroni in his last start on May 31, has won three straight and four of five. Villasenor (26-6) has lived in New Mexico the last 25 years (first in Albuquerque, then Farmington and, for the last seven years or so, back in Albuquerque).

“For sure, the Pit will be rocking on Sept. 20,” Villasenor said. “Seriously, I can’t wait.”

A limited number of $20 tickets are available for UNM attendees (first come, first served), who will sit in a special “student section.”

Other tickets, priced at $30, $50, $65, $100, $150, $200 and $500 (VIP) can be purchased at the UNM/PIT box office (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday), online at http://www.unmtickets.com/ and by phone at (877) 664-8661 or (505) 925-5858. The pre-sale for tickets began Wednesday, Aug. 6.

The event is presented by Los Angeles-based ProElite, Inc.’s live fight division, EliteXC. The remainder of the card, including the fights to be televised on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast), will be announced in the near future. The first live fight will begin at 6 p.m. MST.

I’m glad they are offering $20 tickets to the UNM students. Great idea.

I just hope they don’t find they need to offer ALL the tickets at $20 just to sell them all!

  2. Planck16 says:

Who really cares about this event?

  3. yzfoxracing says:

I DON’T KNOW IF IM GONNA GO… IS THAT THE HOT MICHELLE WATERSON THAT IS RUMORED TO FIGHT

  4. Dannyboy says:

I care about this event. Any true MMA fan should care about this event.

Only the UFC nuthugger nazi’s who stalk Dana would refuse to watch it.

  5. Dannyboy says:

    Especially since it’s FREE.

  6. Dietrich says:

Sounds like another great reason to move to New Mexico. For those considering going —Travel tip…There is actually a really nice Super 8 off the Interstate that is near Juan Tabo(City Street) and close to the Rich Ford dealership. The complete address is upstairs sorry…It is nice and clean(2yrs ago) and will not set you back alot of jack….

  7. The Rob says:

If Michelle Waterson is fighting, I would buy a ticket. who cares if she’s a good fighter or not, she is god damn gorgeous.

  8. yzfoxracing says:

I WANNA GO JUST CUZ MICHELLE… I DON’T WANT HE TO GET BEAT UP THOUGH

  9. Dietrich says:

I am ashamned to say I had to look up who she was…If you are single you need to go support her…(Any other line would result in banning) :)

I think there are too many productions trying to make it into the primetime, mainstream. Strikeforce, EliteXC, UFC, Affliction, and WEC are competing for people who do not really know anything about MMA. Any promotion can put two sorry fighters on TV and the mainstream world does not know they suck. The hardcore fans do and it pisses us off to see these scrubs fight for a championship belt (Lawler vs. Smith I & II). These guys are not world champion material. They both suck. MMA needs to spread by hardcore fans indoctrinating others into the sport and imparting our knowledge onto them. This is sure fire way to keep Bubba Fights from getting on primetime and looking like a rag tag production. The Mega Death thing on Affliction was stupid and the EliteXC productions are a joke, same goes for Strikeforce. The WEC has a pretty good production (mostly because it is owned by the UFC). The UFC puts on the best overall show; even if some of the fights suck, the show is professional with some decent commentating. We don’t need an over saturation which makes it all go away. Some competition is good but it seems everyone and their brother is broadcasting shows. This did not work out for fake “professional” wrestling, so I am sure it won’t work for MMA.

  11. Dietrich says:

    Preach on Rock Solid!

  12. Gonzo says:

    Rock Solid,

I get it, your another UFC or die guy. Competition is always good for business. The last Elite XC CBS fight was great for hardcore fans. We got to see top fighters and championship matches. Diaz is a super fighter and could still compete in the UFC.

Elite XC atleast co-promotes with other MMA companies. They also alow their fighters to compete elsewhere and let fighters come over too.

The UFC is like “professional wrestling” and doesn’t let entertainers to go elsewhere. Dana and Vince Mcmahon are similar, as they believe they are bigger than their “sport.” (Except Vince actually owns the company, while Dana is just lucky enough to have grown up with Lorenzo Fertitta)

The UFC is putting on too many shows, and we still don’t see a lot of the title holders. We had to wait a year for Rampage to fight, and a long time for Noguera to defend the heavyweight title? Unless there is a medical suspension, they should fight every 4 months.

UFC definitely has the best production value, but Elite XC was much improved. Besides the light heavyweight division, the rest of the division contenders are spread out through many MMA promotions.

If the UFC has the best fighters, why doesn’t Dana let them fight on another promotion and/or for the WAMMA title?

I’ll never forgive Dana for not making the Fedor / Randy fight happen.

  13. yzfoxracing says:

you say it like its dana fault… fedor became a free agent AFTER the whole randy/ufc thing… im sure dana tried…. im sure he wants to see it just as much as you and i and everyone else. he would want to prove the best hw fighter is in his organization… cut dana some slack man… his plate is full… and go ahead and say it…

    im a dana nuthugger…

say it i know its coming

  14. Rock Solid says:

I certainly do not like everything the UFC does. Making any fighter wait a year to fight is stupid and I don’t like the PPV cards that do not feature a belt on the line. I actually would love to see some sort of tournament of champions across the promotions, but that will never happen. I am also glad that I get to see more MMA fights, I also have HD Net. I got HD Net specifically because of all of the MMA airings. I just do not want this to become a fad and fizzle out because too many people are trying to make cash off of it. Over saturation is not good for MMA and neither is people putting on cheesy shows. Go all out or don’t go at all. Keep the crappy shows off of TV; it makes MMA fans look bad. If Affliciton can get there act together and put on some quality shows then I will be all over it.

  15. yzfoxracing says:

the thing is… right now everyone is all over affliction mainly because of fedor… im not interested in affliction cuz i don’t like the ring and ive seen all the fighters fight before and pretty much get handled. and im not interested in seeing the same fighters fight every card… elite and affliction should combine to have the weight classes

  16. yzfoxracing says:

and sign bigger fighters with the money that the two get… but stick a cage please
