Jason MacDonald: UFC 83 Likely To Be Held in Montreal in April

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Nov 30, 2007

According to a recent blog entry by Canadian mixed martial artist Jason MacDonad the UFC will hold it’s long-anticipated debut in Canada in April - likely in Montreal:

I was told last week that my next fight will be in April. Joe Silva (the UFC matchmaker) told me they want to save me for the April card in Montreal.

I don’t know the date or an opponent or even if it will for sure be in Montreal. But he said he needed me on the Canadian card.

The event is expected to take place in Montreal at The Bell Centre, the home of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens’ busy schedule combined with other events held in the arena have resulted in the UFC’s Canadian debut being pushed back several times.

Top welterweight and Canadian native Georges St. Pierre (who takes on Matt Hughes in an interim title bout at UFC 79 in December) is expected to be prominently featured in the event’s main bout. Other notable Canadian fighters who could potentially fight at the event include Sam Stout, Patrick Cote, and Kalib Starnes among others.

The event will likely be broadcast on pay-per-view.

Evan Tanner’s return bout to the UFC should be against J-Mac.

if true it’s about time. we deserve it. if it’s not in montreal then it should come out west to alberta. another 20000 plus arena and the biggest mma market in canada.

Tanner would hurt McDonald. well maybe not…..I think they are both mediocre fighters….might be a good match. Im just not a big McDonald fan…..as some of you UFCdaily vetrans should know haha.

  7. Napoa says:

Wow are u kidding J-Mas would kill tanner dismental him i said earlier the tanner might cause a little influence in the mid weight divison but c’mon there is no way he will beat J-Mac i just think he is too old he might of be J-mac if he was in his prime

UFC 83 - Canada vs USA II

I wish I still lived in Canada and could attend this event (I’m still happy to be going to see Silva vs Henderson, so I won’t complain).

I don’t see MacDonald as championship material, but he’s more than just “token Canadian” on a fight card. He’ll put up a good fight no matter who he’s facing and who knows, maybe he’ll prove me wrong and work his way up to the top of the food chain.

  9. fixxxer says:

I wish he woulda kept going in the Franklin fight but he just quit. Thats kinda why I am a lil weary of him. I would like to see a rematch of that fight.

  10. Joe T says:

I don’t live in Canada but my sister does…buying that ticket tonight. Can’t wait.

  11. Mojo says:

I seen the Franklin/MacDonald fight live in Columbus. Franklin beat the **** out of him and was unable to continue. He did not just quit, he got his ass beat.

  12. fixxxer says:

He did get his ass beat, and he didnt want to go another round. I mean, I wouldnt want to either….thats why I dont fight Rich Franklin haha.
