White Misses Meeting With Couture

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Nov 20, 2007

UFC President Dana White accidentally missed his scheduled meeting with UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture according to an interview White completed with Steve Cofield following UFC 78. The meeting was believed to have been scheduled for today, November 20th, but was supposed to have been last Tuesday. All is not lost however. White and Couture spoke briefly during UFC 78 and will meet following sometime after Thanksgiving.

With “Rampage” Jackson also sitting on the sidelines while healing from a hand injury there has been speculation that Couture could agree to a bout against Jackson in early-2008.

I wonder if Couture and White will ever work out a deal or come to a compromise.

The specualtion with Rampage fighting Couture is interesting because they have trained together in the past and I assume they friends or at the very least have a relationship that might be close to them being friends.

Yo Randy is the man and if Dana White doesnt get a deal done with him that would suck. The speculation is interesting but I doubt it would ever happen. I say let Randy act for awhile while the heavyweight division gets a kick in the ass with some new guys see if any interesting matchups come about in that time and offer that to Randy. If theres still no interesting fights at heavyweight then offer him the Rampage fight.

Dana. What the hell were you thinking?!?!?! How do you miss this meeting? Really? I hope they work it out, but I think the fight with Rampage (though exciting to an MMA fan) is a bad fight for Randy unless it’s at Heavyweight. He is much better at heavyweight than lightweight. I know this is how they planned his exit of the sport last time (didn’t work. Slayed Liddel and reidned supreme for 2-3 years!) but Rampage would kick the **** out of his mom if he was put in the ring with her. Did you see how he looked at Hendo when Hendo wanted to shake hands?(and their pals)

Dana and Randy have had a strong relationship in the past and I’m sure everything will be rectified shortly.

I don’t like the idea of Randy going back to 205 (if they do it as a Heavyweight match, I might be more interested, but I wouldn’t want to see Jackson potentially having to defend to belts, same with Couture if he fought at 205 and won). Dana will make whatever fight it is huge and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Couture sign an extension in the next month or so, including reworking the $$$’s for his one remaining contracted fight.

typo - to belts = two belts

  6. NorCal 209 says:

Rampage Vs Couture would be crazy but Randys not gonna get pounded out or submitted by Jackson so as great a champ as he is, Rampages only shot is knocking out Randy much like he caught Chuck…And that very well could happen but I am betting on Couture…That all said, The fight will never happen…

  7. Sean says:

Man the way everyone is talking you’d swear it was the Ultimate Fighting Couture instead of championships… Ha Ha

  8. belly says:

i dont think this fight will happen.whilst randy is a great fighter i dont think it would be a good move to drop to lhw and fight rampage.he must feel the heavyweight scene isnt to good if he drops.i hope dana and randy can sort it out.

  9. dirk says:

man this fight shouldnt happen A)it would have too be at heavyweight or ill give up on dana and too quit mixing and matching the weight classes sokodjou vs rampage would be cool fight after his debut. B)henderson vs anderson silva…sounds sweet too me

  10. Shocbomb says:

This fight will never happen it bad for Business ? it’s
a lose, lose fight for the UFC, It will discredit one of there champions from one of there most popular weight divisions. And the bottom line is Dana and the Fertitas are all about Business ?

  12. cung le says:

So will Randy drop back down to LHW or will Rampage move up? It’s an interesting fight, but not the one I’d most like to see.

  15. Vampslayr says:

If this match were to happen, I’d see it at Heavyweight. With Couture being uncertain with his future (regardless of any contract they do or don’t work out), I can’t see Dana risking Couture having 2 belts. While I don’t like the idea of any champion holding multiple belts, I think the best move to make would be to have Jackson potentially holding 2 belts and worst case, still being LHW champion.

  16. Russ says:

Dana needs Randy. All of his other top marquee fighters are no longer champs. Matt Huges, Chuck, Tim, Rich, Tito, ect. Right now most people don’t even know who these new champs are. Dana needs a fighter that can go on talk shows and tell the world all about MMA. Jackson is a great guy, but not many know who he is. Chuck, Tito and Randy are the main-stage fighters. Dana needs Randy more then Randy needs him.
