UFC 78 Medical Suspensions

By: Kris Karkoski (admin) | Nov 20, 2007

The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board has handed out two medical suspensions for UFC 78:

  • Joe Doerksen has been suspended for 60 days after suffering a fractured orbital bone in his knockout loss to Ed Herman.
  • Akihiro Gono, who posted a second-round submission victory over Tamdan McCrory on the event’s undercard, has also been suspended indefinitely due a wrist injury.

Houston Alexander and Luke Caudillo did not receive any medical suspensions despite knockout losses. Additionally, Chris Lytle, who lost his bout following a doctor stoppage due to a cut above his eye, did not receive any suspension.

Both Doerksen and Gono will have to be medically cleared before returning to competition.

Nice to see so few injuries. Doerksen isn’t in the UFC’s plans so really Gono is the only one effected.
