Bud Light Announced As Major UFC Sponsor
Anheuser-Busch and the UFC today announced that Bud Light will become the new exclusive beer sponsor for the Ultimate Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting. The three-year deal will begin at UFC 84 “Ill Will” on May 24th.
“UFC has developed a huge following in recent years and is wildly popular with the 21-34 year old fans we want to reach,” said Anheuser-Busch vice president Tony Ponturo in the announcement. “The number of people attending live events, buying the pay-per-views and talking about UFC around the water cooler continues to grow. It’s just a great place for us to be.”
“Landing Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light is huge for us, our fighters and especially our fans,” said Dana White, UFC president, in the press release. “We’ve got the number one selling beer in the world and one of the top marketers in all of sports as our sponsor. If our TV ratings, pay-per-view buys and venue sell-outs weren’t enough, this definitely cements UFC as a major player in sports business.”
According to the announcement ” Bud Light signage will appear on the Octagon center mat and on its vertical bumpers during each of the UFC’s 10 or more annual pay-per-view events and featured prominently during UFC press conferences and weigh-in events. Bud Light will be the presenting sponsor of two UFC pay-per-view events annually and serve as the official beer sponsor of the four or more UFC Fight Nights.
Additionally, beginning June 1, Bud Light will appear as the official beer sponsor of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) events broadcast live on VERSUS network.”

I think this is excellent….but all the media seems to be set toward EliteXC signing a deal with NBC or ABC..whichever one it is. I think EliteXC is going to give the UFC a run for its money.
Please explain to me why this is a good thing? A good thing would be the UFC signing Fedor, the UFC partnering up with M-1 to make Fedor-Couture happen, even working a deal with ABC, Fox, NBC or CBS.

As much as I want to see all that happen biged….I just kinda said screw it….let the business side of things do what its gonna do and I will enjoy the fights. I also enjoy Bud Light haha.
Funny how it is such a huge announcement considering on the MSNBC special last month Dana pretty much said WE DON’T NEED MAJOR SPONSORS, WE’RE #1 WITHOUT THEM!!

are u kidding this is great news, i will agree that this is not as good as things BigEd90813 suggested, but maybe the UFC with this sponcsorship can pay their fighters the money they deserve. Dana yeah i will admitt he might be getting a lil’ cockey, but comon the guy bought this organiztion, with the fertitias, for 2 millions $ now it is worth a 100 times more. This might be the biggest day in MMA. The EliteXC deal and the Bud spncorship might be enough to make the sport the numver 1 individual sport in USA
This is defenitly going to surpass boxing as the number 1 individual contact sport because when do u ever see live boxing fights on basic cable, NEVER! This sport has grown more in the last 5 years that people that it would in a lifetime, AND IT STILL CONTINUES TO GROW AT A CONSISTANT RATE!

I’m gonna miss Bruce telling me to “Get stung” at the beginning of every fight. Seriously, it was one of the conditions of the UFC drinking game we have at our house (”Get stung”, “imposing his will”, Joe Rogan saying “INSAAAAAAAANE!!!”, any time someone does a foot stomp, etc).

They could have went hardcore and got Olde English or St. Ides(if it still exists) LOL.. Better yet they could have got Colt 45 and got Billy Dee Williams to do some guest commentating.. He’d say something like “That knock out was smooth.. but not as smooth as a colt 45″ Ha Ha
