Yamma Pit Fighting Announces Debut Event
Yamma Pit Fighting distributed a press release earlier this week announcing the complete card for their for their debut event which is set to take place in Atlantic City on April 11 at the Trump Taj Mahal.
The show will include an eight man heavyweight tournament as well as two super-fights, one of which pits Gary Goodridge against Eric “Butterbean” Esch. The other super-fight, which has been rumored since earlier this month and now confirmed for the event, will be UFC legend Don Frye vs. long-time MMA veteran Oleg Taktarov.
While Yamma appears to be bringing back some recognizable albeit over the hill names for their big show, the fighters announced to take place in the eight man tournament fall significantly further from the radar. The fighters slated to participate in the tournament are:
- Rex Richards (4-1)
- Marcelo Periera (5-0)
- Chris Tuscherer (11-0)
- Sherman Pendergarst (10-8)
- Travis Wiuff (47-11)
- Alexey Oleynik (4-3)
- Tony Sylvester (10-1)
- George Bush (5-0)

I hope that the “Yamma” event is redily avalible on Direct TV. Does anyone know if it is. I don’t know why, but I seem to enjoy the tounament structure (with a few “super fights”) better than a whole night of single matchups. I also heard that Don Frey will be facing ?someone? (I can’t remember for the life of me) in a superfight on that card. I will tune in to the first couple for sure.
I better learn to read cause it clearly states that Oleg “the Russian Bear” Taktarov(love that guy) vs. Don “the Predator” Frey (love that guy 2) and Butter “the Muffin Twice” (just kidding) Bean vs. Gary “BIGDADDY” Goodridge (performer of one of the SICKEST KOs in UFC history in this article. All I gotta say is the crucafix is BRUTAL!) and a heavyweight tourny. I am definately gonna watch-anyone else?
Scotchy, the Yamma event will be available on Pay Per View, so you shouldn’t have a problem if you want to order it through DirectTV.
Any idea on what this “surface” that guarentees to keep the action going will be? From what I’ve learned, it seems that instead of a fence, there’s just vertical bars around the perimeter of the cirlcular ring, with 4 cameras mounted at the top. Maybe I misinterpreted the surface part, and it’s just the regular mat.
“UFC 84: ILL WILL”, is the worst name ever. Not that the name matters much, but thats just freakin’ lame.
