UFC 83: Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Feb 7, 2008 at 10:04 am ET10 Comments

Alan Belcher will take on Patrick Cote when the UFC visits Montreal on April 19th for UFC 83, the promotions first ever Canadian event, according to MMA Junkie.

Belcher (11-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) amassed an 8-1 MMA record to start his career before coming to the UFC in late-2006. The Arkansas-native lost two of his first three UFC fights to Yushin Okami and Kendall Grove while picking up a victory against Jorge Santiago. Belcher has since won back-to-back fights in the UFC with wins over Sean Salmon at UFC 71 and Kalib Starnes at UFC 77. He was scheduled to face Ricardo Almeida at UFC 81 but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a severe case of bronchitis.

Cote (12-4 MMA, 3-4 UFC) started his UFC career with four straight octagon losses to Tito Ortiz, Joe Doerksen, Chris Leben, and Travis Lutter. Despite the early losses, he has now won four-straight UFC fights against Scott Smith, Jason Day, Kendall Grove, and Drew McFedries and has emerged as a possible title contender at 185-pounds.

  • Lowcash says:

haha, johnboy, my thoughts also. I really like both these guys – they are entertaining, tough fighters who bust their asses and take it serious. I do think Cote has the edge, though.

  • johnboy says:

    great minds think alike haha

Then i’ll be the voice of reason :) I think belcher is too quick for Cote. I dont know why but Im just not sold on him yet – and I am impressed with belcher, he will get a title shot either late this yr or early next….not saying he will win the title, just saying he is on his way up…

  • DrBdan says:

Cote actually started his UFC career with a loss to Tito Ortiz. He’s currently 4-0 since losing to Lutter on the TUF4 finale. Not that Belcher is a chump. I think whoever wins could be in line for a title shot later this year, though that says more about the lack of contenders in the MW division than anything.

  • FixXer says:

Im not a big fan of Cote but the dude is tough. I got Belcher in this one though.

  • Kris says:

Thanks to all those who sent in comments about the Tito Ortiz loss missing (posted and otherwise). I corrected the article, thanks all for the heads up.

  • DREW says:

PATRICK COTE KO 1ST ROUND ON ALAN BELCHER

  • scotchydow says:

I love this fight. I wouldn’t doubt it if the winner gets a title shot. If it goes to the ground- Cote all the way, but…… Belcher would own a good majority of the middleweight divison (Silva excluded-but would be a great fight) on his feet. If it’s toe-to-toe, Belcher will KO Cote with a BOOT TO THE HEAD.

  • J-MMA fighter says:

LET’S JUST SAY I TRAIN UNDER ALAN BELCHER IN DIBERVILLE,MS(REMIX)AND JASON FLOYD WHO HOLDS OUR STATE RECORD WITH A 4 SECOND KNOCKOUT..MOST OF THESE COMMENTS COME FROM PEOPLE WHO DON’T TRAIN OR KNOW THE MEANING OF TRAINING..IF YOU THINK YOU CAN SCHOOL ME ON THIS WRITE ME AT SLADZNGPT@BELLSOUTH.NET NOW,ALAN IS AN ALL AROUND SUPERIOR FIGHTER..HE WILL WIN THIS HANDS DOWN..FOR THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW ALAN OR HIS FIGHTING ABILITY..YOU BETTER START LEARNING..HE IS ON HIS WAY TO DOMINATING THIS CLASS…
